Know how I'll be fightin' the good fight against $70 games? (And currently do so with $60 ones.)

By not buying any. ;D

AAA budget isn't the only budget option available, people. There's also crowdfunding, but that's only if you have a loyal and loving fanbase, and managed to pull the right strings. Lab Zero (Skullgirls' current developer), for example, managed to obtain quite a bit more than they were going for, partly by enticing the MLP fandom that was somewhat recently made sore by Hasbro C&D'ing a certain fighting fangame by offering developers of said fangame (who was then joined by Lauren Faust herself to revive the game by creating an original setting altogether) their engine for free, which would normally cost $100k for licensing IIRC, if their Indiegogo campaign reaches $725k.
So yeah, fund smarter, not harder.
That is, unless you managed to wrong the fanbase one time too many. Then you can go bankrupt for all I care.

Yea... but THQ was starting to come back I think. They just needed a little more time, I thought.

I think they also changed CEO, but it was too late.

If Nobody bought your shitty game that costs millions to make, don't charge more nor blame piracy. Just make them better or cheaper or quit making video games
I'm tired of Developers trying to make every excuse for their own faults.

If the game is good, it will sell, if not, it will have devoted buyers nontheless which grows over time
If the game is Legitimately bad, no one will buy it.

I think that is a valid point. I always hear developers whining about piracy hurting the game industry, and I don't doubt that piracy has an effect(small, but still effect) on game earnings, but I also believe the main reason why games aren't selling is just, maybe, they are shitty games that just aren't appealing. I always see these developers bitching about why people aren't buying their games, and why, at launch, they aren't doing as "well" as they hoped. I always say this to myself, "Well, maybe if you stop SUCKING, then people would buy your games!". I mean, seriously, DEVELOP GOOD GAMES if you want people to shell out the millions. It seems like, as of late, a lot of developers are trying the same old tricks on the same old crowds and a lot of people just ain't buying it like they used to. Normal logic would conclude that maybe, just maybe, it was time to change things up a bit. Bring in some new ideas or variety to test the waters and get people interested. But, we live in an age of kneepads, where everybody's afraid of taking chances, and they'd rather go down with the ship of a overplayed trend than swim to new possiblities.

I, for one, don't look forward to $70 games. I'm still iffy regarding PS4. As of now, the most I'm willing to tread via "next gen" is Wii U(which everybody knows, isn't MUCH "next gen", but that's the point, as these asshats aren't really selling me so far that their "new way" is the best way).

I'm a pirate. Arrgh!

But I bought used games for the PS2 from GameStop. I bought used and new games for my Japanese Saturn from eBay (full Shining Force III, Slayers Royale, Sakura Taisen sets baby! Yeah!). I bought my DS games used, have one I got from my brother new for Christmas but haven't played (Fossil Fighters... meh. Not interested and why he bought it for me is beyond me. Maybe he wasted his money, we'll see some day. The christmas before that though he got me Starfox 64 so he's batting .500.), and all my 3DS games I've bought new. (Traded in Lego Lord of the Rings for $12 after I beat it, spent that money on Fire Emblem.) So even pirates will pay for games. I even intend to buy the DS GeGeGe No Kitarou game if I can ever find it (since DS games aren't region-locked and you can play a Japanese game on the US 3DS, I heard).

Wii U games doesnt cost that. Guess what will happen AGAIN? If Nintendo doesnt wanted to continue this bullshit about region-locking it would make even more sucess.

Wii U would be the best, to me, but even Nintendo makes dumbass choices. What's with these companies and their idiotic choices they make. They are like the real life equivalent of stock horror movie characters, always wanting to make every stupid choice in the book that leads to their inevitable death. Don't they just fuckin' KNOW that if they choose the RIGHT choices, we'll LOVE them for it and toss tons of money their way? Seriously, these's asshats got the mentality of lemmings.

Exactly, Lemming go left and right. These companies do things in the "right and wrong" order. XD

I love the last line of the article

When market saturation is reached with franchises like Call of Duty, the only way to expand is by charging more.
Yeah you could do that or um, MAKE GAMES IN GENRES/STYLES THAT AREN'T SATURATED? But no, that would just be crazy. Clearly the answer when people stop wanting something is to charge them more for the thing they don't want.

It's all cool in my book, I mean, I have a High end PC, Which in trade PS4 games are 90% chance to be ported to to similar format and on top of that, an exclusive market is slowly dying out, my future in gaming is secure.

RUMOR: Kotaku reported that the next Xbox will require an Internet connection to boot games. If no Internet connection, no games or apps can be started; if the connect is interrupted after a period of time, say 3 minutes, the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter starts. Also, the prototype controller is covered in stripes to prevent developers leaking images online, since Microsoft can track down the leak source.

Yeah. No.
Microsoft: "How about requiring them to have internet?"
Them: "How about fuck you, Microsoft?"

Yeah I think it's gone beyond "rumor and speculation", now it's pretty much all but officially confirmed at this point.

I'd go into details but I'll just let this Neogaf thread do all the explaining (if you haven't seen it already)

Good to know that Microsoft have written a formal letter saying that they are abandoning the console market. Seriously, this guy think that we live in the Megaman Battle Network universe or what?

The big guy forgot to mention, and to me this is wholly the most important thing, is that the new XBOX should not have within it, at all, the "Big Brother" security system. It's supposed to be a gaming console. My bro has pretty much sworn off on getting it due to this very issue and not just the always online thing either. And with the way Microshaft and their X'security'BOX is going, that will leave the consumer market flocking to the PS4. At this point in time, SONY's future looks bright while Microshaft's looks very bleak and dank.

I don't know...I could see a lot of people still buying the new Xbox despite nothing but bad news coming from it so far. I'm guessing a lot of people either won't hear about this stuff or won't care. I'm really hoping it's not the case, because I'm just tired of this shit. A lot of stuff like this, the recent SimCity fiasco, etc., just give me the impression that the a huge part of the gaming industry just treats its customers with utter contempt and disregard these days.

I don't often buy games brand new, and if prices go up again, I see myself doing so even less. I'll give money to developers and publishers I fully support, but I'm so sick of the gaming industry making us prove our loyalty (through DRM, season passes, etc.), and giving us a less-than-quality product in return.

That is how businesses move these days.
It's all about the money and not about consumer satisfaction.

I fail to see the logic in such practices. Businesses are only businesses because of their consumers. Loosing consumers means loosing money. Businesses' main goals is to earn money by providing consumers with a service(in this case, developing games and consoles that have enough appeal to interest consumers). It's almost like businesses have gotten so lost in their own hubris, they've forgotten what it means to be a business. It IS almost like the cartoonish depictions of "huge faceless corporations" where the board meetings feature a bunch of shark faced executives talking about how consumers don't make them, but THEY make consumers, laughing maniacally and lighting their cigars with burning hundred dollar bills.

It really is one of those occassions where some of these companies REALLY need to be taken down a notch or two. And, when ever I bring up this, someone's quick to say, "But you should never wish something like that to happen, because it would mean more lost jobs...", but, it's really a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. At the state we are in, it will probably be worse off. If something could have a dramatic effect to actually change the industry's ways, that would actually be beneficial to those looking for jobs in the industry. Sometimes you need to free that stranglehold to opening it up for everyone else. Sometimes you need to make sacrifices if it leads to a new better and brighter future.

The economy is always renewing itself. Old skills and jobs are replaced by newer ones.
However, there are instances that the people on top prevent this from happening and stick to their old ways with the lame excuse as you said above. That is made worse by an aging population.

In all fairness, this really made me sick... knowing what the people crave and yet not supporting it because "it will cause future problems". I feel that the need for more development in gaming isnt the issue, rather the replay value of current console games. I would love to end some of those games that seem to take forever. Instead of supporting us trophy hunters in the games we currently are playing, we get more games to pile on the list. Put the chip in there... its not like the lifespan of these things matters as there is always a newer model in production. For brand new console owners, it wouldnt be an issue but if you have supported one platform for years on end (sony) then return the favor ::: end rant:::

Microsoft has been ripping off their customers from the beginning. They sell their system for $100 cheaper so people who can't do math will think that their getting a better deal than a PS3. Then after 2 years of xbox live fees you've already paid over that $100 difference, and I think it's safe to say that we all use our online networks for more than 2 years.

I had a 360 and got rid of it because I was disgusted with how microsoft charges people for an online network that doesn't even offer dedicated servers. I remember playing Halo Reach which was still using hosts for it's online matches (the same way they were doing with halo 2) and getting all kinds of lag and dropped matches with only 8 to 16 players. Then I would sign on to PSN and play Killzone 3 or MAG and it runs perfectly with more than twice the amount of players in Killzone and 200 something players in MAG.

It's ridiculous to me that people choose that console for fps games and even online games in general. Microsoft has been holding online gaming back just to make a profit.

They say the 360 sold better than the PS3, but that's because almost everyone that ones one had to buy it twice.

Montoya, thats exactly why I didnt have got a 360, I like to play online without needing to pay. I think that if anyone deserves my money when I play online, its the game creators, not Microsoft.

To say the truth, here in Brazil a lot of people buy 360 only because they dont play online and mainly because they use pirated games.
