Title: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

I really hope to God that this "thing" is not real!

I ain't got the capacity to get a big dick over that. :-X

F'realzies tho, there's never "just a spider." They're all horrible fear-inducing abominations.

Unless they're cellar spiders because we have a ton of those in this house and they're rad because they don't gross me out and they eat bugs AND the really nasty spiders.

Maybe you should go to Brazil where it was raining big-ass spiders all over the place. Or to Australia where the spider population suddenly exploded without warning. Then will see how big the so-called 'big dick' is. Believe me, spiders aren't just spiders. Most carry venom and while most of it is harmless to humans some of it isn't. And the results are disgusting and horrible. I've seen the photos and regretted doing so. Besides, that big-ass spider that I linked to? Who knows what kind of nasty surprises it's hiding.

A friend of mine got bitten by a brown recluse once. Apparently those things will rot your skin away. He started getting an inflamed bulge where he was bit, and rather than go to the doctor (because he had no health insurance), he took a knife and cut a big chunk out of his flesh. :o It stopped the spread of venom, but damn was it a gross fix that left a big ol' scar.

I avoid killing lil' spiders because they eat grosser bugs. They're actually kind of cute when I don't look them close enough to see their fangs and hair and all that. And they run away from me. I can't kill something that runs away from me. But that one I would kill without mercy. That is, if I would dare go anywhere near it.

Well, unless it's a rat .  I have zero sympathy for rats and I never want to encounter one.

Oh, centipedes too. Any kind of centipede I exterminate with extreme prejudice. Unlike spiders, those suckers can actually bite me.

Its not raining spiders in Brazil, also this spider doesnt seem scary, I could kill it anytime with a wooden pole. Now that snake is another story (maybe a longer pole? lol)

I remember having to kill a snake with a wooden pole about 15 years ago. I can't remember if I was the one holding it's head down with a shovel or actually beating the head in though. It was a copperhead getting poised to strike at me and some family members when I spotted it, if you get bit by one of those things you'll be lucky to live unless you can be treated quickly, and even then you're likely to lose flesh/fingers around the bitten area. The spiders around here I'm worried about (besides the black widows which are fairly rare unless you spend a lot of time in old sheds) are the brown recluses, those can kill you and cost you limbs as well, though they look fairly innocuous. There was a fellow around here who lost his foot when one hid in his shoe as they sometimes do. At least if I get bitten by a giant ugly ass wolf spider all I have to worry about is pain and being grossed/freaked out.

Also, better make sure the spider isn't carrying. Killing a mommy spider may multiply your problems:

Well I wish I had your courage. Arachnophobia is really problematic even in the most convenient of times. But if you like spiders then I have an image to show you that you might like as well. I actually have an interest in this one too, but that mainly due to it's rich cobalt blue coloration;

And for those of you who hate 'em...well here's more spiders ten of the weirdest one's you'll ever see;

Tarantulas are actually pretty cool. Dangerous, but cool, since they're so big they're more like scorpions than spiders.

I once read that in Africa some tribes know how to cook and eat them. They eat their belly, first removing all the nasty hairs.
Eating tarantulas... Sounds both nasty and exciting.

Some Asians also eat tarantulas.
Here's a good list of Asia's bizzare foods. There are more to this like poisonous snakes, monitor lizards, poisonous plants, ants, bees, etc.

I've got news for you. Both spiders and Scorpions come from the same family of Arachnida, though they are a different sub-species.

I believe scorpions are considerably less deadly than spiders. I could be wrong, but I think the number of scorpions that can kill or injure a human is a handful.

For some reason scorpions are less creepy than spiders. They are frightening, but not in the shit-your-pants-and-run way like spiders. Maybe it's about the eyes, the hair and the stance. Spiders are like weird hands.

I saw bbq tarantula on globe trekker once.

and despite being arachnophobic, scorpions don't bother me.

I mean id likely freak if one was near me for obvious reasons, but they just ain't scary. its the eyes, stance, body type, and they have lobster like claws so they are not all legs

Monster Bug Wars- Scorpion vs. Centipede (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE-LMPHR_TY#ws)

Even the mighty scorpion falls before the very icky centipede.

Though the critter's length gives it an unfair advantage. I'd like to see a fight between a really big scorpion and a really big centipede.

It seems all that gentle removal of house spiders was in vain, since they mostly can't survive outside:

http://www.burkemuseum.org/spidermyth/myths/comein.html (http://www.burkemuseum.org/spidermyth/myths/comein.html)

Eh, I guess I could let the little bastards be, as long as they stay off of my food and tables. It's just challenging not to get a spider out of sight or kill it when it "invades" your territory.

If I knew for certain they'd eat all the silverfish in my flat, I'd have no problem letting them be.

In the spirit of the thread, I figured I'd note that while casually dangling my day-glow pale hand out the car window today I felt a sudden..."sensation" on my middle & ring fingers. I assumed a leaf had hit them & shook my hand-still felt something there though. I reeled my mitt in only for my mind to stop all functions for a brief moment while it tried to wrap itself around the reality it was being fed-there was a large wasp crawling pretty as you please on my two fingers. I think it was hurt because it didn't fly away once muh' grey matter was back online & I'd flicked my hand violently; it landed on my door handle & kept on truckin', just taking it's time to experience the inside of my car door at a leisurely pace. I can't stand to hurt or kill ANYTHING, even insects I'm allergic to, so's I found a loser $5 lotto scratch off in my floor board, coaxed the little fella to crawl on it & sat him down gingerly in the Farm & Tractor Supply parking lot we'd met in. I wished him well in his insect life & we parted ways. So yeah, who has two thumbs & won't be cruising with the windows down anytime soon? This gal.

Seriously, centipedes should not exist. I think they're an aberration. A proof of a twisted universe. Especially that one. It looks like a mixture between ant, roach, centipede  and God's malevolence.

Well, the good thing about venturing through pictures and videos of horrible bugs is that it gives me a whole new perspective on the bugs I have a chance of encountering here. I can sleep a bit easier knowing that critters like that would likely die quickly in this climate.

Here's a bug story that is kind of endearing. Almost. Well, at least it's not creepy.

I was dozing in my backyard. My napping kept being interrupted by a sound that was high pitched, yet resonant. My half-sleep made the sound kind of psychedelic and amplified it. When I woke up, I kept hearing the same noise, just not quite as booming. I turned my head and it was a cricket, chirping about 15 cm from my head. I never knew how big of a sound they can make until I saw one so close.

Bonus.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fallaboutfrogs.org%2Fweird%2Fpictures%2FFRGTTH.jpg&hash=c9ec92e63eadf66a5b94fee212cdb06df5f54df4)

You know what I didn't want to know of existing? Angry frogs. And carnivorous frogs. There is just something really disturbing about the idea of a frog being ravenous.

I used to find screaming frogs disturbing (especially when I encountered one IRL), but having desensitized myself through videos of them I'm not quite as creeped out by them as I used to be. But aggressive frogs that aren't cartoony, anthromorphic and don't have the ability to exaggerate their limbs while attacking space rats? I haven't quite gotten used to them yet.

Angry Frog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK7AKjrl8Cg#noexternalembed)

Frog vs mouse 1080p HD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCaaLopzC1E#ws)

Just imagine it. You're locked in a tiny cell with hundreds of frogs. They'll get hungry and there's lots of them. At first, they'll eat each other. But eventually, they start leaping at you. You wake up when they nibble on you with their teethless mouths.

If I had to choose what would consume my body, I think I'd rather be eaten by humans than by critters I thought of funny and cute as a kid. I mean, what's the first thing that you associate with frogs? Ribbiting? Sitting still and looking funny, maybe snatching a fly with its tongue? A smiling, jolly figure singing and dancing while wearing a top hat? Frogger? I doubt "screaming and eating flesh" are common initial thoughts about frogs.
Title: Re: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

I'd rather not be eaten period. One of my most horrid thoughts is to be consumed whole and still alive; Only to die from the churning, corrosive gastric juices of whatever swallowed me. It would be in situations like that, that having a terrorist's suicide vest loaded with C-12 would come in handy. You could die knowing you won't be killed in a horrible and ghastly manner and at the same time, removed a horrible blight from the world or at the least gave 'it' a very sore and sour stomach ache.
