Definite Castlevanic influence off this, along with Ghosts N Goblins. Random generated castles, ton of item pickups, on death continue as your heir with different attributes.

had this for a while now and put about 10 hours in. Awesome game but very difficult. It takes almost all your money everytime you enter the castle and if you do a bad job (very easy to do) youll make like no money before you die again and then be back at square one. Its sort of easy at first to "progress" (progression is from buyin upgrades/gear) at first but every upgrade bought increases the price of the next one that includes runes and most armor/swords. So the more stuff you buy the better you have to do in your future runs to unlock more. The castle changes everytime you die and the only way to ever keep it the same is to unlock the engineer and let him take 70% of the gold you make each run you want to keep it locked.

And by difficult I mean you have from 50ish-200hp based on class of the current child you play for that run and dmg regularly is 20-50 per hit and theres no healing other than food that drops really sparsely and only heals for 10% total hp and the very rare healing fountain when that room generates in that run even it only heals about 50hp. You CAN get vampiric runes/gear which restores hp per kill but they each also take around 30hp from your total. So while you may heal 15 or so hp per kill youll only have about 100hp total with the strongest tank type class.

You CAN buy hp upgrades but like I said before they get so expensive it gets almost impossible to make enough to afford it before you die again.

NONE of this is to mention the insane amount of difficulty I even had getting the game to RUN at all. As soon as I started it and got thru the prologue and when I looked at the options screen to adjust the resolution and not play in fullscreen it crashed and wouldnt run again for no apparent reason and with no crash logs. It wouldnt even give an error itd just run for about 2-3 sec and show up in task manager then close. Nothing ever appeared on the screen. It took 3 weeks or so of them tryin to fix it before I could even play it again and no amount of uninstall/reinstall/delete config/delete settings/comb the registry/etc solved the problem.

I still have no idea what actually made it work again. I posted about it on the steam forum for the game and didnt hear anything for like a week and then bumped it and finally got the dev to ask for the event log error I replied with it and tried the game again to see if itd generate a new error to paste for him and it worked. No changes to my pc... no reboots or reinstalls since the last time Id messed with it. It just fired right up and I played it for about 6 hours with no issue. Complete mystery!

So yeah... Its not a terrible game its actually really fun and does a lot to inspire the "just one more run" feeling but I wouldnt buy it again

some ppl didnt LOTS of ppl did. The steam forums blew up with posts about the game not even running the first time

I also didn't download it through Steam. I got it through Desura's website. Might be the difference?

The steam forums are still filled with people screaming at steam to fix the damned skyrim intro CTDs. I have this problem and haven't been able to play the game in months now.

I'll be playing it, but right now it's on the queue of games to play...
Assassin's Creed, The Witcher (2nd playthroughs), Dishonored, Metro: The Last Light (all for PC), Time and Eternity, Ni No Kuni, Tales of Graces F (all for PS3), and then (if 1886: The Order for PC is still not available), it's the time for this and other retro games I'm looking forward to (Duck Tales HD, Shovel Knight, The Legend of Iya...).

Is the ugly joke about irritable bowels present very frequently?

its a random trait your kid can have and all it does it make em fart randomly (and pretty rarely) when you jump or dash

Yes...? We have a plenty of serious games, we need some with different types of humor too. It could be even worse, imagine if one of the kids could randomly feel bad and vomits? This would be gross.

They can add some soft humor like the GnG games when Arthur is in underwear after being hit.
I think there's a line between humor and gross.

Your right Pfil. There is a fine line. But the problem is that we as a people have different tastes in humor. Some my find gross things funny while others won't. I'm the sort of person whom doesn't like gross things and sitting through all those vomit scenes in the Jackass flicks was really pushing my tolerance levels  :P

You think this type of humor is gross? Then try to play Boogerman, thats really gross and is one of the reasons why I dont play it (its boring too)

Wow that Boogerman is disgusting!
One of the worst things I've seen.

I may be taking it too seriously, but I can't help it, jokes like that break the spell of fantasy I like to get into when playing games.

I played this game today and its a little slow in my machine, but playable. About the fart joke, it only appeared as a option one time after hours of playing and dying, so Pfil, you can now play it without restraints since its optional. When you die you can choose between 3 new ancestors, each one with different random traits that can be seen before choosing one of them :P

Also I barely noticed this bowels things.

Honestly, I don't know why you'd be disgusted by the fart thing. Even when it happens it's like s small sound effect and particle. Nothing beyond that.

In any case, I encountered the problem where it won't load on my friend's machine. It's odd.

Have finally hit New Game +. DEAR GOD THE PAIN. IT HURRRRRTS. I thought Johannes was hard enough - now the whole castle's about as bad as him.

I have the option not to choose it, so no problem.
But the game seems really hard, I lost like 10 times in a row  :P

Its even harder when it runs with some slowdowns in your PC.

Challenge accepted, I only need to beat it first, but it can take a time since I walk like a slug or turtle. Also I deleted my save when I unninstalled this game, so I can begin a fresh adventure in my next try (for some reason my title screen doesnt show nothing, its all black, so I wonder how I will select the new game+ when I unlock it lol)
