Title: Beautiful lyrics...
Post by: Pfil on April 24, 2013, 04:15:11 AM
May your name had been only Maria..!
I don't know if you were the echo of some old song,
but many, many years ago you were deeply mine
on a sad landscape, passed away from love.

That Autumn brought you, wet from agony,
your poor little hat and brown coat...
You were like the street of melancholy
that rained... rained... over my heart..!

María..!
In the shadows of my bedroom
your steps keep coming back...

María..!
And it's your voice, little and sad,
from the day you said:
"There's nothing left between us.."

María..!
The minest..! The distant..!
If she came back some morning
by the streets of farewell..!

Your eyes were bays that were carrying, absent,
horizons of shadows and days of sunny past...
But your kind hands, returned always present,
to wash away my fever, toned down from love.

Some Autumn you left..! Your name was Maria
and never again I knew about your unhappy path...
You were like the landscape of melancholy
that rained... rained, over the grey street...

(C. Castillo, 1.945)

By the way, this is from a song I heard in the radio some days ago while I was working.
The beauty of the music got my attention, then I heard the beautiful lyrics.

The name of the song is "Maria", and it is a tango, sang by Julio Sosa.
It's a whole different kind of music, but the chord progressions of tango are sometimes very neoclassical, and so, they are very similar to Castlevania.

If anyone's interested, here's the link:
Julio Sosa Maria (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMPcTPeW6Gs#ws)

The poem at the beginning is by J. Sosa, and it says:

"What an old and tired image returns to me the mirror! Ah, if she could see me!
Alone here, in the grey shadows of my bedroom, this, our bedroom, that seems so big since you're gone!
God knows by which unfortunate paths may you be walking your sadness,
and I'm here, alone, with your farewell knocking at my soul,
while the feverish dawn of my hopelessness brings me the hallucinated echo
of your little steps that take you away,
and the sad music of your words,
that keep reducing to silence".

Yes it is so beautiful!
And Maria is a very special name to me (not only because of Castlevania).
He is a lyricist from the 1940's.
He is from Argentina, and the original lyrics are in spanish.
I linked the song ("Maria") in my previous post.
