So a DuckTales remake is announced and all of Internetland goes bonkers; a similar remake for Castle of Illusion with the involvement of the original game's director and music by Grant Kirkhope is announced, and nobody says a peep. I just found out about it.

(Granted, DuckTales is one of the finest games ever made so the reaction is warranted, but it feels like this one was swept under the rug.)
I only just started playing the Genesis game a few months ago (though I remember playing it as a kid at daycare) and it's pretty fun. Definitely intrigued by a remake where there's a lot of potential to improve upon the formula.

I've dreamt about this, and now it is reality. I'm beginning to think I have some sort of superpowers.

Quick, dream of Capcom finally getting enough sense back to uncancel Megaman Legends 3!

Interesting. I love the art design of the original, especially in the forest area. I've never gotten terribly far in it though. I don't think I've made it past the toy area. Hopefully this remake will remain faithful in the gameplay department.
-
I'm hoping Mickey still has his "springy" walk.
Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion aped the gameplay basics pretty well, so I'd imagine somebody at Disney wants those controls to remain.
-
Is CoI the one with Mickey and Donald as magicians whooping ass with magical capes?
-
I believe that's one of the sequels. Castle of Illusion just has Mickey.
Eventually I wanna play though all the Illusion and Magical Quest games. I certainly would have enjoyed those more as a kid than Mickey Mousecapade...

Castle of Illusion is the first of the Illusion series, I believe. It's just the basic "save Minnie" game featuring Mickey as the main hero and some evil witch named Mizrabel as the villain. It's considered to be a classic on the Genesis and many have fond memories of it(inlcuding myself):

I really love that game and i hope for more than just graphics update.

Mouse HD
House MD
omg
I played World of Illusion at a childhood friend who had a MegaDrive. I've been meaning to play the Master System version of Castle of Illusion. I didn't know there were even more "Illusion" games.

One of my favorite platformers of all time and the reason I got a Mega Drive in early 1991. It was the first time I was completely blown away by graphics in a video game. I had never quite seen anything like it. Heck, the game still looks pretty good. I'll be keeping an eye on this remake. I was pretty disappointed with Power of Illusion though. Dunno. It just felt slightly... boring.
-
Now Im waiting for Magical Quest 1 and 3. I loved to use Donald with a magical lamp, I used it to carry my friend, since a magical hand comes out from it. Sometimes I even dropped him in pits lol
-
Heard about it a couple weeks ago, saw the trailer for it, brushed it aside and played my copy of CoI on my Genesis instead.
Still no video of the gameplay though, so we'll have to wait and see, but I don't really care for HD remakes.

One of my favourite games when it comes to not Castlevania, 2D retro games.
I'm glad to know this! :)

SO WHO'S GETTING IT TOMORROW

SO WHO'S GETTING IT TOMORROW
If the game is out in Europe tomorrow, then yes!!
One thing I don't like about this remake is the new jumping animation for Mickey. It looks less epic when he doesn't stretch his leg and arms like he did in the original. And it looks floaty. Or jerky. Can't decide which. The original had slow and graceful jumps. SO I WON'T BUY IT ANYMORE!!1 Just kidding. The game looks excellent so I can live with the new, less nicelooking jumps. :D
-
Interesting, someone can show any new videos or images here? Since we only got this very old kotaku news. :-/
-
The PC port is really bad, locked 30fps and upscaled 720p....
luckly I found quite a few fixes, Its a shame they put the 30fps limit because I truly appreciated the animation work after I patched the game to 60fps
In all its a technical bad, but with Google it's a good port

I tried the demo. The controls are really, really loose. And that's really a bummer since it requires lots of precision platforming. I'll stick with the original. :(
-
I've downloaded and played a few stages.
Just as with Duck Tales Remastered (and years ago Dracula X Chronicles), I think this isn't more than a mere curiosity.
I'll have the original games (Duck Tales, RoB, CoI) any day over the remakes.
I think this will always happen when you take an excellent 2D game and remake it with modern graphics.

Post some images, pretty please :P

I thought the demo was pretty fun. It's visually very impressive and I like that it's not always strictly a sidescroller, that at key points you can move in all directions. I think it's nifty.
But where the controls become an issue for me is the Crash Bandicoot style running away from the apple. It works in Crash because the controls are so tight and you can pick up all the items, but I had the damndest time picking up items AND dodging logs the whole way down.

They would be photographs of my computer screen, but OK, I'll do it tomorrow.
I will try the PS3 version, because the PC version has an input lag of half second or one second, and that makes it unplayable in a platform game.

You know what the "PrintScreen" button does right? You can try to press it, paste it in a image editor like Paint and see if it works. Now if you will play it in a PS3, yeah, phtographs will be needed :p
-
I can't use PrintScreen when in full screen mode, it pastes all black background images.
-
Yeah, some games do that, what a shame :(
-
Anyone here had the same problem with the input lag in PC?
When I press a button, Mickey does that command like a second later.
-
This game is running fine apart from that? If yes, then it hardly can be your PC fault.
-
It works perfectly apart from that. I could run Bioshock Infinite in my PC, I don't think it is the computer, it must be something from the rip or a mistake from the game.
It runs OK in PS3, though. But the controls are better in the original.
-
could an old version, from what I read up the v1.0 of the game is pretty much garbage
-
It has some problems, but the worst is the controls delay.
-
The game's alright. I think Duck Tales Remastered's controls felt more tighter. There's something off about Castle of Illusions's controls. Other than that, the graphics are beautiful. The only other, non-gameplay gripe I have is that it doesn't feature arranged versions of EVERY song of the original, some of which were songs I liked a lot. Grant Kirkhope's arrangement was great though. The Enchanted Forest's main theme never sounded more Disney-esque and whimsical(even though he chose not to include that part in the song that sorta sounds like the Coneria Castle theme in Final Fantasy).
-
I'm digging this game a lot if just for the atmosphere, graphics, and music. It's also really fun to play and can sometimes be tricky to get all the gems.
No qualms with the controls myself, but unlike with DuckTales: Remastered, I'm not familiar enough with the original to bitch about them. Though what little I have played, the Genesis game is a little unforgiving with its controls, and the floaty nature of the remake kinda works nicely.
-
I prefer the original but that feeling was really bigger with Duck Tales.
This remake is a little more OK with me.
