just makes me wish Arc System Works would make a Judgment 2 in this style
Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Trailer #1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKGPhKu3jNg#ws)
-
Im unable to view this from my work comp. I've been waiting for some more GG for some time. I thought they were doing a BlazBlue/GG crossover =/
-
I have to wonder, what's up with Ky's new design? In the previous designs I could still tell from a glance that he was a guy, but now he's almost completely androgynous!
Oh, and I wonder if Robo-Ky's still around...
-
So is all that cel shading real time or pre-rendered like Blazblue was? It's pretty nice looking but some of the cloth looks like garbage.
-
I thought they said they were not gonna make any more GG games
-
Just saw this on magicbox. Those have got to be THE best cell shaded graphics I've ever seen. I thought it was high-res 2d at first.
-
I hope it's Post-Overture to continue the story arc and give us Sin and Valentine , I think this is amazing, a purposely lowered animation frame-rate to emulate sprites, on top of that they are rendered to look like sprites, giving opportunity to update and add characters with ease.
I just hope they don't fuck up as hard with Blazblue with making a incomplete mess until the third version.

What was wrong with BB? :-\ Granted they added too much comedy in Continnum Shift but I enjoyed all the titles so far.
-
I'm going to pretend Venom is still around—maybe Slayer turned him into a vampire or somesuch and he continues to run the Assassin's Guild in Zato's place.
-
That's incredibly epic, and the music is killer.
You can't go wrong in a game that has a character named after Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske.

Yeah, I was wondering that as well...it's the ponytail that does it, IMO. I think they made a female Ky Kiske for Mugen who looks almost exactly like this one does. :o

Out of curiosity, what exactly IS Guilty Gear? I heard all about it growing up, but no one I knew ever played it so I don't actually know what kind of game it is.
-
Hyper stylized fighting game.
if you've ever played BlazBlue, it's kiiind of like that.
-
Sorry Flame never even heard of BlazBlue.
So GG is a fighting game, then? How long has it been since the previous one was released?
-
The Guilty Gear series started way back in the PS-X era. Guilty Gear X, the sequel, was released for the Dreamcast. Since, there has been a slew of sequels (more like "enhancements" & tweaks) to the series released on various platforms (PSP, GBA, etc.) BlazBlue is the "spiritual successor" to the series.
Everything you want to know about the series (and almost any other fighting game you're curious about) can be found here:

Ahh thanks.

this game looks amazing. somehow they took those hi-res 2-d graphics and now it looks great with the cel shading. I wonder if the detail is good enough to keep it up to speed with the Dreamcast version. I hope a lot of people buy because PSN fighting games are going stale for me

Guilty Gear is quite possibly the best fighting game ever made imo. The characters are very quirky; they have some that are standard SF/Marvel style characters, but then they have really interesting ones that rely on playstyles that require a bit more thought. Zappa, for example is a character possessed by a ghost and he can summon either a hellhound, a group of ghosts, a ghostly sword, or a demon to help him. Eddie is a character with a parasite attached to him and when you press a button down, it causes Zato (the host) to attack, but when you release the button, it controls Eddie, the parasite. But then there are also characters like Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske who are sword-wielding shoto-style characters that are fairly easy to wrap your mind around (who have more moves than Ken or Ryu, but are kind of the Ken & ryu of the game.)
The game is very anime styled, and I don't normally like much anime, but the characters and locales are all so well done. Some of the characters are just plain weird (Zappa and Faust for instance) but they're all well created.
Arc Systems is also really good at making fighting games. They're so deliberate in changing things, carefully considering what exactly they're doing, so none of their games are ever a mess balance-wise. Some of are more balanced than others, but they're all pretty well balanced within reason. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core is the latest of the GG games and is extremely well balanced. Even the low tier characters can be extremely powerful in the right hands.
I'm terrible at the game, but as a fan of fighting games, I can't really think of a better created series than Guilty Gear. Arc Sys did so many things right over the course of the series and it's just so much fun to play! I can't recommend it highly enough! I'm really excited to see that there's going to be another game!

Hey Docta, i have a few examples of series which compete with Guilty Gear, (mechanics wise not story elements)
-Marvel vs Series- I wanna take u for a ride
-Mortal Kombat (Leave out that N64 crap except Quan Chi's fatality =P) Although its been highly regarded as a SF clone
-Tekken not one 3-D fighter has shown competition. Soul Calibur wasn't far behind but they fell way off the radar with those last two rip-offs.
-DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi (2 is my favorite one)
Each of these games brings a different element to the table. Some prefer them at slower pace, others like to move in 8 directions. Guilty Gear has a very strong learning curve; dash canceling and other elements are real touchy when performing juggles and can mean instant death for the intermediate players. I've witnessed and been on the receiving end of master Potemkins and Testament users, those two can bring you to your death easier than Chipp can pull off a 80 hit combo!!! I am with you on Accent Core... it was masterfully done! I think GG Series hands down has the smoothest 2-D animations by a long shot though. But then again this is all opinion

That's kinda debatable, Virtua Fighter has (or had) very deep and intuitive combat mechanics.
Wasn't there at one point a 3D GG action-adventure game that had Sol as the main character?
-
I didn't make mention to VF series as the last two installments were the only ones I've really ever played. Each character was definitely unique in 5 from what I remember. I felt the characters to be too generic though for those games. A monk, karate man, buff black guy and scantily clad young Asian woman. You see it all the time and they had very forgettable characters. ( can't remember the Krillin look alike's name to save my life)
As for the 3-D game u speak of It's called Overture. I never touched it back when it was released because it was an Xbox exclusive. It looked fun but I thought it to be a dick move not making it multi platform so I never played before

Those are all good games. I dunno, for some reason though, none of them touch Guilty Gear in my mind. And I've played them all except DBZ, but none of them hold my interest the way GG does somehow. Capcom's games are real hit or miss, though Third Strike is my other favorite fighting game of all time and I'll always love SF2, Vampire Savior (which was actually made by the Guilty Gear team!) and Capcom Vs. SNK 2.
I've never been able to get into Tekken. I've played it a good bit, I can see why people like it, but it just never sticks with me for some reason. :P
-
Well that's very understandable. I'm hoping the new GG brings more to the table than Injustice has! I will never pass on a new fighting game unless its Sonic Fighters! Injustice should keep me busy until then (hopefully) :)

I decided to Nerco this instead of making a new topic...
Now is time to talk about the key thing about Guilty Gear, the music!

I did not like Xrd's music at first, but after a few listens it grows on you, I'll share a few "Best of" tracks IMO

You know, I really wish ArcSys would release this on PC.
Anyway, what do you think about the new mechanics? Particularly the revamped Roman Cancel system, Hellfire mode, and Danger Time.
-
Danger time reminds me alot of injustice's Clash system (Hopefully not as useless), I love the variety of the new Roman Cancels, and the new Dust mechanics are alot like MVC3, but not as much continuous air time.
My biggest concern is changing the game too much, which I'm glad they didn't, I really do wanna see some more characters appear though
-
OHMYGOD
YES
YESSSSSSSSSSSS
And Doc, I'd like to throw Killer Instinct into that mix, too. I give it serious props for being one of the few fighters where you can't just win by knee-punching eighty times in a row (well, unless you're playing/playing as Sabrewulf/Spinal, and even that's not universally true).
