Title: The Conjuring (film)
Post by: Belmontoya on July 28, 2013, 01:13:22 AM
Ok, so I'm not usually a fan of scary movies. There are a handful that I think are really good films. But I just got back from seeing The Conjuring and holy crap. This movie was really, really good. And it actually made me jump a few times. The acting and production work were are top notch too, which is rare for a scary movie.

I'm not sure about the whole "based on a true story" thing. This movie makes that claim. Still, it is interesting.

But anyways, if you're a fan of scary movies, this is definitely worth seeing in the theater.  :o

Here's a clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FCaLiZtu9s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FCaLiZtu9s)

There are a bunch though. This one has some of the people in it who this apparently happened to.

I've been wanting to watch this one since I saw the poster and watched the trailer.
I'm aware of some bad reviews so far, but I don't give a damn about critics, I'll see it on Blu-Ray day 1.

I always just go by rotten tomatoes because it gives you the average of the reviews. The conjuring is at 86% which is really good for a scary movie.

"This has all been done before. There's nothing original at all in this movie."

Well duh. Demons are, uh, how old? The cliches are older than Jesus. Doesn't mean shit ain't real and dayummm shit just got real, son!

making up quotes is fun

I think those ladies were interviewed on Discovery Channel or History Channel or something. They look familiar kinda.

I saw it yesterday.
It was good... but "Insidious" is still scarier.
BONUS: Insidious2 trailer in the previews. :D

Recently, I liked "Don't be afraid of the dark", "Intruders", "The Cabin in the Woods", "The Woman in Black" and, as Jorge said, "Insidious".
"The Conjuring" looks very promising, though.

One of the most original films I've seen in a while!

Yeah. It was the ending that ruined insidious for me. I agree though, the conjuring does 't win points for originality. Somehow it overcame that for me though.

I agree about the middle to end being wonky, but the beginning to middle was great.
And this part was the best part:
(click to show/hide)

That's the same actor now being typecast, which also sort of turned Conjuring a little funner 'cuz throughout the whole movie I'm like "These actors are all horror/scifi movie typecasts".

The paranormal investigator (Patrick Wilson) is the dad from "Insidious".
The victim wife (Lily Taylor) is the woman descendant from "The Haunting".
The psychic (Vera Farmiga) was in both "Orphan" and "Joshua".
One of the daughters (Joey King) was in "Quarantine".
The investigators' daughter (Sterling Jerins) was in "World War Z".

The oddball was Ron Livingston since everyone knows him from "Office Space". xD

Also made Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" terrifying for some people, hehe.
