"That was the original intention of the game. It was a game charged with the signs of gay culture, and Luigi and Mario were a gay couple trying to face a society that rejects them. Further, when we introduced the game for a western audience, we changed some concepts, but if you observe carefully, many of the original concepts are present. The goombas and the flags at the end of each level are symbolic male reproduction organs.
The princess isn't real, it is an allegory to the traditional female ways, which is similar to homosexuality, and in the game, the lovers go on a constant quest for castles, to finally learn that gay identity goes beyond looking as a woman. The plumbing is another nod to gay culture, and Koopa represents the over masculinity, the macho man and the intolerance, and that's why Mario and Luigi must defeat him" (Shigeru Miyamoto).
Yeah... I'm not making this up, I just read it :o
I know...

I don't believe this for an instant and neither should anyone else.

I wouldn't believe it either, but it's everywhere on the news.

Pfil, its not wrong with them being gay, but it sounds very fake, to begin with they are brothers and they dont mentioned this in the news. Also sources are welcome (and chainsawmidget already found news that tell its a hoax).
Anyway, good joke xD
-
Sources are all in spanish, and I couldn't find one in english. That's why I translated the part of it that quotes the creator.
A Google search with "Mario Luigi gay" should give plenty of results.
Of course there's nothing wrong with them being gay, I would welcome a game with gay characters, especially women.
It would be a very brave thing to do from the developers.

IIRC correctly they started airing a year ago a animated series with a super hero boy that crossdress as a girl (with pink dress and a part of his hair being pink too). But I've never seen it. Maybe it can interest you and if you find something, please share lol
-
I'll see what I can get :P

This gives new meaning to "Do the Mario."
*badoom-tss*

Ohhh, now I get it! My brother tells me it's Zombie! We call it "Zombie".
I mean, "Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka", which has a 2nd season too, called "Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka Of The Dead".
Great series, very funny and lots of ecchi situations, give it a go if you are into that ;)
-
I think Mario being a communist is more plausible.
On a side note, it's funny how pink got turned into a girly/gay color. It wasn't always like that.
-
While this is a hoax it is true that the Mario series, by way of Doki Doki Panic! does have what is likely the first transgender character in video games. Namely Birdo, it's a shame but not at all a surprise that this was done as a "joke". Though interestingly since then she has been officially paired with Yoshi at least once or twice, they make a cute couple! In recent years in the west Nintendo has tried to obfuscate Birdo's gender identity/status as a trans woman, presumably in the interests of not attracting attention or controversy from the likes of putrid talk radio or paranoid pulpits.

Yeah everyone assumes that association is much older than it is, it really dates back to less than a century ago with the birth of marketing and marketing research. It was also not uncommon for dresses to be a unisex clothing for young children until around the same time.

And there's more to it as well. Back in the early 20th century and throughout the 19th century (it could go back even further then this), the girls wore the color blue while the boys wore the color pink. So if anyone out there thinks that pink is a girly color then they need to do their research. and the Pink Panther would like a word with them as well.

Sorry, but thats wrong, I said animated series, not anime (I will ever say anime if its possible xD), it aired on west. But thanks for suggesting this too :P

+1 for this Newgrounds' classic.

The panther is only pink because bitch he's fabulous. Also being pink makes everyone think he's rare as hell.

So apparently nobody here has ever heard of a game called "Cho Aniki"
Choaniki (Sega Saturn JPN) - Gameplay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF-gqOeio2I#)

I find it nice when men wear pink, provided it is with good taste and they are well dressed, but I don't see it as a symbol of gay culture, personally (though I'm aware many people does).
And in girls, I find it to be feminine and cute (also provided it is with good taste).
-
@crisis
I've heard about this game before but never played it, I need to take a time since it can guarantee some laughs.

Judging from the clip you've uploaded there's obviously a reason many of us never heard about it, lol!
As for what I think about Mario and Luigi, no, they aren't gay. Why? Here's the reason why: Princess Peach and Princess Daisy.

It's getting to not be considered gay or a joke. Some guys have started to wear pink shirts, but it's still not the new black.
I don't think I'll ever wear one. Not because it looks gay, but because it's so..so..flamboyantly hippy. Like you said it yourself; on girls it looks cute. It's just a naturally funny thing to me. Like bananas or ducks. Maybe if they manage to make a pink-wearing super hero equal to Batman, my view will change.
Love red, though.

Amano Hyo would like a word with any of you who think pink is a girly color.

And don't forget that lots of people chose pink shirts to represent the anti-bullying campaigns.
-
Princess Peach and Princess Daisy.
How about princess Toadstool? ;)

Isn't she the same person as Princess Peach?

I personally love light pink and light green :)

Princess Peach is Princess Toadstool. They are the same person, but the American localizations until Super Mario 64 came out, had always called her Toadstool.

You didn't get it. I was making a joke on how horrible "Princess Toadstool" sounds. As the Nerd said "They could have just as well called her Princess Frogsh*t!" What were they thinking?
-
Its because its spelled Princess "Toad's Tool" :P (Newgrounds reference)
-

Well she's the ruler of the Mushroom kingdom and her subjects are mushrooms. So it makes sense that she'd be a mushroom as well. I believe the "stool" in "toadstool" is a reference to something you sit on (as with a bar stool) and is an old name for a certain kind of mushroom. Presumably because someone saw a toad sitting on one once/they're the right size for it. Making the ruler of mushrooms a peach is kind of arbitrary, I assume the original localizers were just trying to add more coherence to the mythology for a western audience.
Maybe there's more of a connection in the original Japanese version? Like with "Koopa" being a reference to "Kappa", the monster from Japanese folklore/mythology?
-
So here I am thinking the majority of my gaming life that these two plumbers were just some shroom heads that hit the jackpot once they got in the mushroom kingdom. I always thought they were chasing that high. IMO it's all left to interpretation whether or not these two actually wanted to save the princess or just wanted dibs on all her magical mushrooms and mushroom people. I mean do u really think all of these wacky ideas we've all come to love came from a sober Miyamoto? I stand by my belief that they are not gay but just a couple of Druggie Plumbers hallucinating an entire kingdom built around their drug of choice. ;D

Thats what I've mentioned before.
-
Hilarious! ;D
Too bad the voice acting is very amateur, but the script and animation are hilarious!
-
So you should check the entire series, its really worth it :P
-
I'll check it, then. Thanks for the good find!
-
Well, I have more Mario's comedy series to show if anyone wants, they've a lot in newgrounds.
-
You can post them here if you want, or in the Dumb stuff that makes you laugh thread, it's been a while since anyone posted something there, and there were usually lots of very funny stuff.
-
Yeah, its better let this thread rest and post in the right place, I will post them in the dumb stuff.
-
Oh but it wasn't because of that, you silly! :P
I'm not the owner of the forum, nor am I the Dungeon Master, for that title falls on Jorge-Sama.
I'm already watching them in the other thread, and some are very funny! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I know, but this topic is completely derailed, Im not doing it because of pressure, its more like self-pressure (lolwut?) xD
You're welcome, good to see that you appreciated it,
