Title: Castlevania Reconstruction Order
Post by: Lelygax on August 17, 2013, 07:54:32 PM
As the tile says, share your thoughts about how Castlevania appears. IDK if they show it in some title (never finished CoD) but IMO it will not appear from nothing, we can hear and feel a tremor in OoE.

IMO Castle Keep forms first, then the stairs form and then the rest starts to rebuild in conjuction. Why the keep appears first? Dracula doesnt like to wait even for a second and from there he can make changes in the design of the new castle while its rebuilding :P

As with the way Castlevania is destroyed differently in every game, I think the method of it's resurrection is also similar. It has been mainly known to materialize out of mist (see SotN story), and we've also seen it rise out of turbulent waters like in CoD.

Supposedly, there's an area where the Castle likes to come forth, and it comes as a mist or weather, and takes over that area and anything/anyone on it.
Usually it's a cliffside, but throughout the centuries, there's been water, or there's been trees.  Regardless, here's how I see it:

-There's a mountain/cliff
-When Castlevania is summoned/destined to appear, a great black mist engulfs the area.
-The castle is immediately summoned, and molds itself to fit the surrounding area.
-Anyone caught within the magical engulfing is trapped within the confines of the castle and has to escape.
-Anyone with property existing within the castle grounds just relinquished it to the forces of darkness, as any part of the structure(s) that wasn't built by them will have magical energy which will persist until the castle's ruler is destroyed.
-Although the recreated magical parts of the castle are ethereal, upon destruction, they create real chaos, as the parts don't disappear; they crumble.

Notable examples:
-it has been mentioned that Castlevania appears 'suddenly', 'out of thin air', or 'out of great mist' in several games/booklets.  SotN's intro mentions something to that effect.
-the salesman of Harmony of Dissonance says that he was travelling out when all of a sudden he was trapped in a castle room, unable to escape, so he just sets up shop there.
-In Castlevania 64, there were previous dwellings prior to the existence of the castle.  The "Villa" was such a building/property.  It existed before the castle materialized and engulfed it, and as such it became overrun by creatures from its surroundings.
-The castle crumbling is a very real event in every game, but only in one game has it actually had the heroes escaping by foot, and that's Castlevania64.  Of course, it was all a trap, but one can see the pieces falling and crumbling under their own weight.  In the ending to Symphony of the Night and Castlevania Chronicles, you can see bricks hitting the cliffside and hitting the lake's water, so they don't disappear.

In Curse of Darkness the castle reappear at the same spot? I remember that the first are in the game is Castlevania's ruins.

Castlevania appeared just outside of the Mortvia aquiduct. it's along the path that you can see, but can't traverse until the water is drained. The castle in CoD you start out in was the original castle from CV III although it was more intact then it should have been. In Castlevania Chronicles the castle disintegrates and falls into the Black Sea. In SotN a beam of sacred light envelops the castle, breaks it apart and absorbs the fragments into nothing. CV 64's castle crumbles into the lake where it is situated.

So it appears in a different place in CoD? What happens with the old castle, it still there? So 2 castles at the same time?

Not at the same time per se. The first castle (Abandoned Castle) in CoD is still there. It's nothing more then a dead husk of what it once was. Every time castlevania "dies" it leaves behind a dead husk of itself. That's all that the abandoned castle is in CoD. It can't die because it already is so.

The exact nature of the reconstruction seems very inconsistent and I think that it is due to the fact that the games focus on gameplay rather than story. Hence, why the castle doesn't always appear the same way. Plus, we have the abandoned castle in the beginning of CoD which most people seem to think is the castle from CV3 even though there is no real evidence to say so. I may just be a old castle in the area that was taken over by monsters in the area. After all, Issac even says to Hector: "you resurrected the castle" when confronted in the boss room and seeing how the castle came out of the water and one of the ways to the castle in CV3 is through an aqueduct (perhaps Mortvia Aqueduct), it's possible that that is the true castle and the abandoned one is just that: an old abandoned castle.

Another question is: When does the castle reconstruct itself? Because it seems that in some games it appears before Dracula's resurrection and in others it appears after his resurrection. Just another inconsistency of the old timeline.

Castlevania never appears after Dracula's ressurection IIRC, it ever appears before or at the same time. (exceptions being CV2 and "Belmont's Revenge", but in "Belmont's Revenge" Dracula is already alive so that doesnt count I think, since its his option to wait).

It seems that a person with great power is needed for Castlevania appear in Dracula's absence.

As someone else said, I think the Abandoned Castle is the husk/corpse of the original castle. Remember, it wasn't until CV3 that Dracula is FIRST killed, hence his connection to the mortal realm had yet to be severed. Dracula dies, his powers go with him, so after he comes back, his powers rebuild the castle according to his will. The Abandoned Castle is just the initial dead body(a corpse), while each and ever incarnation afterwards is like a "reincarnation".

And like Jorge said, if we take the locations into account, it probably manifests around the Wallachia and Transylvania area(perhaps an area in between), located near a lake or great body of water(of course, could be a fictional area entirely). Where's Cordova's location compared to Jova or Aljiba or even Wygol(which would've been founded much later). I guessing all are located in apart, around the countryside. The area where, let's say OoE takes place could be along the Black Sea(thoug in OoE, the castle itself is landlocked without a notable lake or river near it), while CV1/CV2 could be somewhere west of it, where the castle is actually near a three way river crossing and delta. Where does CV3 and CoD take place in comparison, or hell, even RoB/SotN, or any of the other games? That whole area is pretty damn big. I think Dracula has full range of it.

One think I would guess determines where Dracula's castle manifests would be how close to it is to the vacinity of Dracula's resurrection ritual. CV1(if we are lead to believe the manual story, as well as the intro in the X68000/Chronicles game), it happened in an abandoned monastery. RoB had a similar ritual(lead by Shaft). OoE, the castle manifested a stone-throw away from Ecclasia cathedral.

In RoB, CV2 (and so CV1 and Chronicles too) Castlevania appears very near from the village.

Also even if they dont fixed it in Dracula X Chronicles, the name of the city in RoB IS wrong, you only need to look at the design to know that its the first village from CV2 and is the same village that is being build in CV3. But wait, I have a proof :P

In order for the Demon Castle to take manifestation on to the world of man, there are many things to consider. First we must break down Dracula's “curse.” This curse was designed to drive the average man or woman insane (thus filling their hearts with darkness, cruelty and evil intent). This would cause a tilt in equilibrium (light vs darkness) and this can force the castle to appear, even if Dracula is not resurrected. The other concept is that Dracula's presence must be felt. This could easily be one of the following: Spiritual, Resurrected and or his body parts still remain. Just the overwhelming application of having his body parts, is enough to drive the average person mad (think Maxium from HoD). With this said, just his body parts alone are also able to allow Dracula to possess the weak willed, and darkest of heart. This, too, also applies to Dracula's 'curse', hence man's desire, can also be his darkest intentions, and can be his undoing.

Now another thing, the Demon Castle itself can also appear if “Chaos” senses it's master, since the castle itself is not a building, but a living, breathing entity; a “Creature of Chaos”, so to speak (as quoted by Alucard from SoTN).

So the common factors are -

1. There must be enough “darkness” in man's heart to tilt the scale
2. Dracula's presence must be felt (Resurrection, Spiritual [Possession/Wraith], the Castle senses/beckons its true Master)

So, from source material (manuals, games...etc.) Majority of what above posters stated is true. The castle will appear out of no where, normally some where within the Carpathian Mountains, engulfed from a black mist. Anyone caught around this, are immediately trapped within the castle, and or fall under it's influence (even animals can fall to this; think of the Birds...etc.

Once inside, there is no way to escape, unless very lucky or until Dracula is put back to sleep for another 100 years (or pre-resurrection)
