Title: Castlevania HiDef (through Emulation)
Post by: KaZudra on August 20, 2013, 09:05:41 PM
Since Mirror of Fate is getting the HD treatment, I'd figure what would DXC look like with the home console look?

I used the new PSP emulator PPSSPP with a 100% savefile (it has problems, like a few infinite load-screens)

Rendered at hi-res
16x Anisotropic Filtering
5x Upscaled Textures (Hybrid + Bicubic)
Anti-Aliasing (Doesn't say, but I read somewhere 2x SMAA)

WARNING: these images are like 4mb a piece

Same for HD Mega Man Maverick Hunter X.

You can play it in a TV if you get a PSP and a TV adapter. It will not be in HD, but even so its cool.

I would love to play this game on something that isn't a PSP for once.

Shame we never got that Dracula's Curse remake.

It looks awesome!

By the way, I have a doubt about this game.
I recently installed the .pkg file in my PS3, and since the PS3 emulates it by hardware, I was very surprised by how slow the "Stage" letters appear. Here it's mentioned that the game has loading problems.
In case anyone knows...
Why is this? And how can I correct this error in the PS3?

Unfortunately it leaves about a third of the TV unused. Had it actually filled the screen (and been a longer cord), I'd be OK.

If you get the right adapter it will fill your TV, alternative ones can do that. I know because I've searched a lot of things about a PSP a year ago, you can find about that quite easily. It involves a adapter, a homebrew and thats all IIRC.

You can play it in a PS3 if you want to see it in full screen.
Download the PSP to PS3 .pkg file and install it just as every PSN title.
But it takes a minute every time a stage starts, since there's a problem with the letters of each level (they appear terribly slow and nothing moves until they disappear).

Without hacking your PS3?

Does PPSSPP finally play the game without having to use the save exploits? I played through the first stage and it doesn't ever load up the 1st boss fight. I'd LOVE to be able to play DXC in HD on my PC.

Without hacking your PS3?
Installing Rogero, which allows you to play downloaded PS3 and PSN games, as well as modified ISO's from PSX, PS2 and PSP, that can be installed as .pkg files and are emulated by hardware.
This doesn't prevent you from keep on playing original games, but it's a good way of playing games otherwise would be impossible to get (like GalGun for PS3 or Valkyria Chronicles 3 for PSP).

Why Galgun and Valkyria Chronicles are impossible to get? :o

The game works rather well stage 2 and beyond, original games still cannot be accessed.... those were issues promised to be fixed with the new version but oh well I guess...

At least to me, they are impossible to get, because I don't have a way of buying japanese games without paying a small fortune.
So, I just download them and play them in modified consoles.

SotN is still unplayable? I heard that if you were to rip it and run it on its own that it works. I have absolutely no idea on how you could possibly do that, and I've only heard of it working on the JP version (NTSC/EU were not tested). Call me spoiled, but I like the PSP version the most for the retranslation, and it seems of all PSP games, it's still the one to have hurdles in both PPSSPP and JCPSP.

Does that prevent you from going online with other games (like Harmony of Despair)?

I'm afraid of trying it, I've been told it's OK to do it, but I'm afraid of doing it.

I changed the Thread Title, with my recent Playthrough of LoI, I discovered Widescreen patches and whatnot, so I wanna share the HiDef with my fellow dungeonites...

Lament of Innocence
PCSX2
6x Texture Scale
2x MSAA
Widescreen Patch

Went to high quality Jpeg, so no 2mb a pic

Note: I'm not Pirating these games, I do own a physical Copy of the game, in fact I ripped the ISOs from my own PS2 games, so I'll resolve that before it comes up.

Specs are this...
AMD FX-8350 4.00 (8-core)
16 GB DDR3 RAM 2200mhz
2 TB HDD 7200rpm
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti

I use Down-scaling to achieve 1440p and 4k resolutions, but the detail is very noticeable.
Unfortunately, This is the only method to remove Jaggies from LoS PC until someone can force something higher than FXAA on nvidia inspector

Sorry, but I really needed to ask this for someone else that understands about this. Its common to have graphics like that if you set epsxe to max in every video option or this "edited shader" really is that good?

ePSXe 1.7.0 Pete's OpenGL2 PSX Version 2.9 + Edited Shader Test! EXTREMLY EPIC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXBUh03uhCw#ws)

I mean, its almost (if not already is) at PS2 level.

Yes, it is common. And the same happens when you emulate PS2 and Wii, you won't believe what you are seeing the first times you see them after playing them in the consoles for years.

Hmmm...I'm inspired to mess with the specs on my emus now.

And I highly encourage you to do that.
If you may, let me recommend you a game for starting. It's the best looking game on Wii when emulated: Super Mario Galaxy 2. You need a powerful computer, though.
And if you just want to drool, go play Sentai Clean Keeper, you won't regret it  ;)

Mario Galaxy games are really beautiful in a real Wii, so I expect to Mario come out of my monitor, pat my back and say "Hello, Letsu play!" if I play it on Dolphin LOL

I searched for PSX HD emulation because I plan to replay Megaman Legends (all this hype because Mighty No. 9 re-awakened my inner flame (inb4 flames as in fire, not flame as in dungeonite)).

Personally, I find Galaxy games to be beautiful in a real Wii if you play them in a 20'' flat screen TV, but not in a HDTV.
To enjoy them in HDTV you need a computer and emulation, at least to me.
I just can't play 3D games that pixelate. With 2D everything's fine, but with polygons I just can't. If a game is made on 480p, it will look pixelated in 720p or 1080p.
However, with emulation, both Galaxy games are the best looking and most gorgeous Wii games.
Both Zelda games are amazing, too!

Yes, even the cutscenes work this time around, hell, I'm playing God Eater Burst on both PSP and Emulator in a pseudo cross play.

DXC is fully playable if you have a save file that's complete. I just took the save file from my PSP stick and put it on my computer and the game works like magic! It's still gorgeous. Man I love 2.5d CV!  ;D

Kaz, what video settings did you modify under the emulator? There are a bunch of things that I have no idea what they do. What are your settings in ppsspp?

for once the Default is best, I just use my Nvidia control panel to force Vsync on and occasionally use a post-processing effect
