Title: Dracula X/Vampire Kiss Prototype
Post by: Kaori on September 01, 2013, 03:14:51 PM
I follow a few pages on Facebook, and one of them posted this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOLY-GRAIL-Nintendo-SNES-Prototype-Castlevania-Vampires-Kiss-Dracula-X-/200950529493?clk_rvr_id=516063803916 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOLY-GRAIL-Nintendo-SNES-Prototype-Castlevania-Vampires-Kiss-Dracula-X-/200950529493?clk_rvr_id=516063803916)

$20,000 for a prototype, super ultra rare or not is a bit crazy.

Smells like a scam. Made in Japan, Super Famicom model cartridge (so its japanese) but contains a european version of the game. He says it works fine in his SNES (not Super Famicom) but it wouldnt even run in it if its not modded because of the region lock.

$20,000? Is he in his right mind?!
With no means to verify its authenticity, I'd have to be under duress to purchase this...

There is no region locking, but a PAL game would run at a different resolution and frame rate and with different power input, so an American SNES or Super Famicom wouldn't play it, not without a converter.

The description says it runs on his PAL SNES, however. Nothing fishy there.

Oh, so it must be a a EU chip inside this JP cartrige cover. Seems more normal now if its was really tested into a PAL SNES. But it still strange that they dont used a American plastic cover.

Well, good luck for anyone that decides to purchase it.

SFC and PAL SNES cartridges are identical, I believe (the plastic is). The PAL SNES also looks like the SFC and even has the colored buttons on the controller. North America got kind of gypped with a redesign that doesn't look as cool.

The graphics (title screen plus whatever other changes) and converting from NTSC to PAL could have taken placed at Konami in Japan. Could've made the prototype to give to their European branch for them to see how things are going along and if any changes need to be made. But then, I don't know if that's how things work; I always assumed another region would get the game after it was completed in Japan.

Could be phony, might not be, dunno.

The Label also says :

Super Nintendo Entertainment System
PAL Version

and at the bottom:
Super Famicom

I guess thats just a Label meant for SFC AND Super Nintendo Pal Version.
As said, the Carts are the same shape and fit in both systems!

Makes sense, my mind blocked the SNES part at first, but now I can clearly see it there. Also this plastic case should be pretty old, since its marked 1992 and this game is from 1995.

LOL at whoever pays that. Dude has brass balls asking that kind of money. It's not even a prototype for one of the better games in the series.  xD

Let's wait someone to pay for it and the ROM to be ripped so we can all play the prototype for free  :P
And if we don't get a rip, RIP ROM, for we shall never play thee.

If anything I'd imagine playing a prototype might be kind of a disappointing experience.

OT: Why can't I see anyone's rep score anymore?

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. The seller needs some perspective, because that kind of price tag is what a Nintendo World Championships cartridge would sell for. A Vampire's Kiss proto can't possibly have the same level of demand.

I almost don't understand why anyone would pay that much for a game that's available for free as a ROM online (in the case of Nintendo World Championship, which I don't know a thing about) And anyone WITH that kind of money laying around isn't dumb enough to spend it on something like that, right? O_o

It depends on how much money do you have.
If history repeats itself, I won't be able to aford a PS4 until its price reduces considerably, but some people are buying it on day 1.
And if I were a billionaire, I would buy every original game I could just for the sake of owning them, and I wouldn't care about spending 50.000 dollars on games, but not on the same game, not because of the price, but because what do I care about NWC? If it were a rare and unique Castlevania that never saw the light and there are only like 5 betas in the world, I would definitely pay it (if I were rich).
What I don't understand is if someone who isn't rich spends 50.000 on a game.

A "proto" of the same game (RH-042) sold for under 350$ last year or so. Still have pics somewhere around...

not sure if show-off or really believes his proto (which is most likely 100% same as the final PAL version) is worth that much.
