Some of you may already know Wayforward is running a kickstarter for a new Shantae game
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero)
Anybody else excited! :D

Wow super cool, but why they are doing a Kickstarter for it? They dont have enough confidence in Shantae so they needed to be sure or they are trying to squeeze more money than they would if they launched the game without a Kickstarter?
Well, if this trend continues and developers continue being honest with consumers it will be a good thing, since this way they can really know that enough people like these franchises and maybe can even ressurect more old games.
-
I would love to try out those Shantae games. Unfortunately every GBC rom I've tried is corrupted in some way or another making it impossible to play. And as for the DS cart...I've yet to see it sold up here and the game's been out for some time now.
-
Both Shantae games are available on the Nintendo 3ds E shop and I don't think the DS one ever got a physical release.
-
The DS game is Download-Only via eShop.
There will not be a cart found anywhere.

Thanks guys! This explains a lot. I'll be sure to get some points and download them.

Just thought I'd provide a little update:
the game is now going to be released on PS Vita & Vita TV
Also here is a new (& rather lengthy ) interview with Matt Bozon. He discusses the history of Wayforward & Shantae, plus touches on why half Genie hero needs a Kickstarter.*
Sup, Holmes? Ep 76 w/ Matt Bozon, creator of Shantae! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDQUa_96N7E#)
If you skip to 1:24:0 he even mentions how Castlevania influenced Shantae.
*For those of you who don't want to sit through the whole interview the impression I got is that contract work is their lifeblood and so original games takes second precedence. The kickstarter is so that they can focus on Shantae instead of letting it get pushed to the side by other work necessary for them to survive.

As strange as it may sound I did feel a tiny bit of CV influence while playing the Shantae games. However I also think Shantae gets more influence from Kabuki Quantum Fighter. The hair attack is a dead giveaway. Don't get me wrong though, I loved playing Kabuki Quantum fighter so getting into the Shantae games' combat system was a very easy endeavor.

Hey, thanks C, that should answer some of my questions :)

Finally, a Shantae game for PC! :)

I don't think it's strange at all, and I'd say it's more than just a tiny bit influenced. I just started playing the GBC game and its open terrain, day and night feature, enemies being more difficult to fight at night, is totally reminiscent of Simon's Quest. It's damned tough, too. Shantae's hair even acts like a whip (although it's shorter than I'd like—maybe there's hair extension upgrades :P).
Here's some bonerlicious new artwork from an artist at Inti Creates.

Rest of 'um here (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero/posts).
It is kind of weird why this game is being Kickstarted, especially since there's a 3DS game currently in the works. I feel like Nintendo might have published it, but perhaps WayForward just really, really wanted to get this other game on as many systems as possible.

I don't think it's strange, either. Bloodrayne had more than just influence, in every aspect. And even in Duck Tales there was some CV influence. Many people from WayForward stuff, and especially Kaufman, are confessed CV fans. And, fortunately, it shows.

Haha! Bonerlicious!

Too bad it's not... Bonerific (horribly bad video enclosed but mildly obligatory):

可愛い!♥

Is that Shantae in No. 009's armor? I sense a crossover.
-
Or... its Mighty No. 9 with Shantae body! DUN DUN DUUUNNN!
Where you found this fanart? I want to put the name of the author in the image, so I could check more of his works.
-
I think it's official art, but just something fun Inti Creates made. I don't think there'll be an actual crossover or a Beck costume in-game, it's just that Inti Creates is working on both and wanted to have fun. :)
-
Yeah, I dont expect it to be more than a motivational image. Thanks for pointing that its official art. :P
-
Do you all think we'll be having some kind of crossed reference between these 2 games?
-
Doubtful. Just fun art.

LOL!! Never thought the Shovel Knight could belly dance in his armor! Speaking of shovel knight is that game even out yet?
-
I think the planned delivery date was Q3 or 4 2014, so it's got a ways.

That Batman isn't sexy, I prefer the Nolan one.
-
Well, it got funded! Congrats WayForward!!!
-
What?! I thought it was already funded since its a well known game. Many thanks to sharing this news. :)
-
I thought the same!
-
Heh, I found a GBC Shantae cart for $6 at a used game store. Just thought I'd share. :)
-
You bought it for me, right?
I'm a little miffed the 3DS Virtual Console release doesn't have the option for the updated GBA graphics.
-
I got this for free on the ios: Shantae: Risky's Revenge.
