Title: Fez: the next Cave-Story?
Post by: Slayer on February 20, 2008, 03:19:02 AM
This independently-made game looks incredible.  What seems like a two-dimensional game with Cave-Story like art-design is merely an illusion, hiding the incredible three-dimensional world underneath it.  I may never look at a single 2D game the same way again after seeing the footage of this game

This is what Super Paper Mario should have been. Looks great.

wow 'Operation: Play Fez' look amazing! It really seems like Cave Story influenced the graphical style in this game and arguably the music too. The changing in perspectives can add quite a heck of a lot of depth!! arg wana play... but yeah, it would be amazing if a Cave Story two ever was made though. I loved the first one to death... and that says a lot, seeing how little I use the world love. : P

as soon as i heard dimension flipping i thought.....Super Paper Mario Rip-off. However Fez's flipping mechanic is much different so it avoids that. (however you can tell that it borrows from SPM greatly...for example: when he flips into open air.) I'm definitely interested in this game.

Yeah when he flips into an uncomfortable/inadvisable dimension, the little exclamation point and the arms flailing is the same as Mario's from SPM.

The later stages of SPM with the cloudhopping remind me of this.  However, this trumps it in that you can flip in every direction, whereas in SPM you can only flip to the 3rd one and back, and you could only flip in one way.  This flips completely around (probably with an L and R button mechanic).

It's very cute.  Really cute, AND interesting.  Very interesting.  :3

This looks absolutely fascinating.  I never played the Paper Mario games; I'd heard they're RPG-ish which is always a big turnoff to me.  I can see some problems with this if the level designer didn't take a ton of things into consideration, but it just looks too cool to pass up.

Hmm.. if I had to choose between this game & The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai (http://youtube.com/watch?v=im8pSPeUorY&feature=related).. I'd choose Dishwasher anyday.

This game's graphics look cool but the overall cutesy mario-esque look is just lame. That creature looks like a tomagotchi rip off! It looks like a game my 6 year old cousin would play, lol.

I'll take cutesy graphics over that blurry grayness in Dishwasher. That video hurts my eyes. It's a shame, because the gameplay actually looks pretty fun.

Don't forget the obnoxious splattering of blood going all over the place just for attacking one enemey. That can't be too good for the eyes.

Yeah, kids should'nt be exposed to stuff like that. Sounds like Fez is right up your alley.

I'm 19.  I can go to a store like Best Buy, show them my ID, and buy any game I so please without having my parents in the store with me.  If you can't do the above, don't call me a kid.  If you can, you're just plain rude.

How could you not want to play this?!? That Dishwasher Samurai looks like any other hack and slash game. Who cares how "Cutesy" a game looks it's still looks amazingly fun!
Haven't you played Mario Galaxy (or any other Mario game for that matter)? Everything is cute, the bushes have eyes! But Mario games are some of the most fun games I've ever played.  But I guess according to you, since it doesn't have ridiculous amounts of blood or adult themes it must be a bad game, is that what you're trying to get across??

Dishwasher has a good combo system but the level design is very meh. The effects were really nice but the actual in game art is quite drab. I could never force myself to finish the game, it got too repetitive as it went on. This game looks to have much larger potential, in my opinion.

It reminds me alot of Madness Interactive, that old flash game that from newgrounds.  Black and White art-design with gratuitous amounts of violence.  Of course, the level of blood wasn't so extremely disproportionate with the characters.  Combo system looks fun, but it looks like its going to play pretty much like the typical 2D side-scroller beat-em-up, just with ridiculous amounts of red.

It reminds me of a ton of games, but this is the first one that came to mind:

And Katakijin was inspired by Ninja Gaiden. :o
Does Dishwasher play similarly to Katakijin?

To me, Dishwasher felt like a watered down version of DMC, without a well-integrated AI system.
