Title: Michael Bay's TMNT trailer released
Post by: Ratty on March 27, 2014, 04:37:14 PM
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES - Official Trailer (2014) [HD] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCjsWpM9zFU#ws)

Color me unimpressed, especially with the pointless rewrites to the mythology. Though it is pretty funny how many "totally serious" fades to black they do in this trailer. Then again this film isn't for me, it's for my theoretical children who have already been theoretically watching the CGI TMNT cartoon on Nickelodeon for some time now.

In the interests of scientific comparison

Why is that whole 'dramatic slow-down' still a thing?

Whoever was behind this trailer clearly had no idea if it's meant to be very serious or slapstick, and I'm going to guess the movie will be the exact same way.

These "dramatic" trailers have become like a parody except...not. They've gotten almost as bad as the comedy trailers with record scratches and pauses for laughter.

Movie looks horrible. I didn't realize the Turtles possessed superhuman strength; Raphael slams into that humvee without cracking his shell. Impressive.

I suppose kids will be delighted. I actually really like the Nickelodeon cartoon, but this "serious movie version" isn't sizing up well.

Peter Laird has his millions and I guess that's all he cares about.

Man who cares about TMNT (btw I like TMNT). They need to remake the Masters of the Universe movie. With all the special effects we have now I want to see a badass He-Man movie

According to that first video with Will Arnett, Vernon is canon, and he's not as grumpy as in the comics. He's also the cousin of Casey Jones.

Vernon was never in the comics.

Why anyone thought it would be cool to bring this character into the new film, and make him family to Jones, is beyond me.

I'd like to extend a most sincere and heartfelt "fuck you" to Micheal Bay and his approval of retarded and unnecessary rewrites to the TMNT mythos and blatant Amazing Spider-man 2 rip-off.
If he produced Masters of the Universe would The King a Queen be working with the Sorceress to create He-Man?

This looks terrible. But the Transformers films were terrible so I'm not exactly surprised. If they made a new He-Man movie I do not believe it would be any better than the He-Man movie we already have to be perfectly honest.

When was the last time you saw the original MOTU? Any He-Man remake would be better than that piece of hud. I mean can see the make up run off the actor who is Skeletor's face. The movie doesn't have Orko or Battlecat either aka half of the characters who know Adam is He-Man. The list goes on but I digress.

lol, there's that, too. Considering the original comic Turtles were probably less than 5', this is pretty weird.

The designs are just bad overall. They look like poor fan art than something you'd see officially signed off on.

Plus, they look black.
You know, like stereotypical Africans, only greener.  ;D

It was a bad movie don't get me wrong. But I actually enjoy TMNT 3. If the animatronics hadn't been so down-graded I expect it would be held in much higher reguard generally. I loved the premise and cheesy humor as a kid. And as an adult fan of B movies it's still a lot of fun if you remember not to take it too seriously.

THIS on the other hand... well I expect a lot of people who grew up with the original turtles will be walking out of the theater saying "And I thought Turtles 3 was awful!" too bad it won't get a VHS release for the AVGN to cut in half with a katana. No way breaking a blu-ray could be as satisfying.

If you want something truly awful to compare this to, try the live action show. Which last I heard Laird was still denying exists.

Jesus, how many more infamous iconic character is Hollywood going to 'whitewash'? Do they have some sort of neo-nazi,  Aryan superiority complex fetish going on now? First Khan and now Shredder? Who's next?

So they're actually trying to make a serious movie out of this? You'd think even the title would have convinced them otherwise.

Nah, it's more of a particularity of the movie industry. There's just as much "blackwash" in Hollywood as there is "whitewash"; it's done either for talent management or for reboot purposes. Nothing too Nazi about it as far as I'm concerned.

There's a big difference though. There are already hundreds of roles for white people in Hollywood movies every year. You'll notice very few for people of other races. So when a role originally intended for a non-white actor gets whitewashed it's pretty bad. Because not only are there a lot of talented non-white actors who don't get many chances to shine in big movies already and get even fewer thanks to this practice, but millions of people never get to see anyone who looks like them represented in Hollywood productions. You'd almost think non-whites didn't exist.
