Rated M?
I found that strange as well. I guess someone caught onto some of the gory sprites/pixels in the game.

GBA games on the consoles store and not the handhelds. That just seems so backwards. Especially since the majority of the VC games on the 3DS are old handhelds.

They're going to put DS games onto the Wii U's VC as well. They'll use a side by side display on the gamepad, so we'll probably get Dawn of Sorrow on the Wii U at a later date.

Just seems like such a sad attempt to get more people interested in the Wii U to put portable games exclusively on it and not on both the console and the 3DS.

You can already play DS games on the 3DS, but yea it's really weird.

It's ironic Konami finally rereleases one of the Metroidvanias after IGA left too.

This. Damn how stupid, I WANT all my Portable CVs on one same console!  >:(

Kind of sad that they don't deem CotM or HoD "worthy" of being VCed, either that or they're shelving them for later only if this does well. I hate it when popularity determines what gets put on these services. They're still not trying to preserve access to older games for its own sake with considerations made only for enough revenue to sustain the process and any profit as simply a nice bonus. Instead I suspect they're just out looking for the most profit they can make off legacy games (however little that may be objectively) so they simply go for the most popular.

Also, ESRB has gone pretty much insane. AoS rated M and Dark Souls II rated T. I would almost say they slapped AoS with M now due to a crackdown on the pixel-naked Succubus enemies but it only notes "violence." Maybe they decoded something eminently disturbing about the game over screen that I still can't hardly make out to this day? Otherwise I thought it was and perhaps still is a typo.

Well it's a little ironic: I remember back around the time AoS came out, groups of people expressed that they were rather disturbed that the 2D CVs were being made for handhelds and not home consoles. Now their re-releases are for home consoles and not handheld. Too bad probably a great deal of those people have left gaming by now. :( Modern gaming has not been kind to people who believe 2D games should still get full retail console releases and look like SotN or better. It seems like only a few, like Vanillaware, can get away with it anymore.

Sorry for this unusual rather agitated three pronged activist-sounding post.

I'm basically just pissed at Nintendo for the 3DS eShop. The system could certainly handle SNES, N64, and DS games but most of the VC is just old black and white gameboy games, game gear games and some NES games.

And now their Console is getting the GBA and DS games, but I doubt we'll be seeing anything new on the 3DS.

I consider the Wii U to be a handheld/console hybrid.  I play it in handheld mode just as often as console mode.  Love the ability to play it whichever way I feel like at the moment.  I'd much rather play on the gamepad than an actual handheld, since I usually just play handheld titles at home anyways, and its a much bigger screen and has a more comfortable grip.  I'd be a little more excited at a DS Castlevania game, since I've played the GBA ones on my Game Cube plenty of times (the only reason I have one).  But of course, I'll be happy to give AoS another spin on a new console for convenience of not having to hook up the Game Cube or dig out the GBA.

Maybe they caught on to how gory Graham's final form is?

Nintendo seriously needs to get their shit straight, Handheld VC needs to be on Handheld first, It's blunders like this is what's reflecting their terrible sales.

and the M rating? Pixel boobs is bad but realistic violence is a T game?

I don't think there is anything weird about the rating.
If you look closely you will notice it's from the Australian classification board and I'm pretty sure the Australian M rating is roughly the equivalent to pg-13 or Teen.

A detail I'm sure others were missing, lol. The ESRB only covers North America.

I'm really looking forward to playing AoS on the big screen again. Last time was when my Gamecube's disc lens still worked, some eight years ago. That was also before I had an HDTV.
Hopefully, CotM and HoD make it, as well.

Thank goodness for the Gamecube GB player is all I can say to that. I think CotM and AoS are good enough to be console games and that's how I play them. Since I have all these games already though I don't think I'd buy them on the WiiU any time soon, even if I had a WiiU.

I might double dip. I have a Retron 5 on it's way(supposed to come out in April sometime), so I can also play my GBA games on that.

BTW, didn't Nintendo say something that, in the future, a lot of these games will also be compatible with 3DS? I thought I heard they are eventually going to make it more open by having a LOT of the games(NES, SNES, GB/GBA and DS) work on both WiiU and 3DS(kinda similar to what Sony's planning, where you could eventually play Vita games on PS4).

I can only hope that some day (without waiting for the next generation of console/handheld/hybrid to come out), when you buy a Virtual Console game on the Wii U, you get to download it on the 3DS or vice versa, perhaps for a nominal $1-$2 fee like when upgrading from Wii to Wii U.  With the combined accounts, I'll just be let down if that doesn't happen.

Best Castlevania-related thing Konami has done in the past 5 years.

I can't understand why Nintendo hasn't already implemented that. PSN has allowed purchases to be downloaded on PS3, PSP, and Vita for a long time now. No extra fee or purchase. With the combined Nintendo Network account, this really needs to happen.

I'm interested to see how Aria of Sorrow looks on the Wii U, but if it's not as dandy as how it looks on the Ouya, I think I'll pass. Currently, GBA.emu beats the pants off Virtual Boy Advance GX and the Game Boy Player. Full 1080pee-peez vizualz, 25% scanlines to offset the low pixel count and give it a nice look, and no warble effect on my TV like VBA GX does.

Because Nintendo.
