Title: Learning Japanese from playing Castlevania SOTN
Post by: NagoriyukiSlayer on May 20, 2014, 07:16:38 PM
I know this may seem like a weird question, but I'm playing the Saturn version of SOTN, and I was thinking about trying to learn about Japanese since it's not a text-heavy game. (compared to, say, Xenogears) Does SOTN use hiragana or katakana?

Some Hiragana and quite a number of Kanji for the conversation parts. The sentence structure is archaic especially on Alucard's parts, so I don't think that is a good idea.
But the food stuff and other items are good for learning vocabulary and you'll see hiragana and katakana there. I think there's kanji too if I recall correctly.

In my opinion, learn Japanese the traditional way and not through games/anime/manga. Japanese changes structure depending on the character's social class/era/etc.

If you want to learn Japanese, buy Genki, its a good textbook. You could probably teach yourself quite a bit.

I would recommend http://www.humanjapanese.com/home.html (http://www.humanjapanese.com/home.html) It's really good, and I'm using it right now.
