Title: This is what the Reboot should've been!
Post by: Zetheraxza on June 12, 2014, 10:03:29 PM
Well what do we have here? Blood, Old Man's Dog from SCIV, Eric Lecarde and his Spear for PoR and Henrey Oldrey later on. Not to mention a Gothic City with Castle in the background and the Clocktower.

It will have shit FPS, and yes I'm salty about PS4 exclusive.

Also, you people said the same thing about DS2, and look how that turned out

Dark Souls II's own downfallings was the fact nearly the entire team was all new; none of them worked on Dark or Demon's.

The team that made those games is the one making Bloodborne, so there is a lot more ease in that it probably will not disappoint like Dark Souls II did for a lot of people.

That's just an excuse. Miyazaki still oversaw development and Ok'd things in the end.

How I supposed to be salty of a game that runs in 15fps?
Sony already killed the Vita, and now PS4's library is 99% Multi-platform releases.
And then Sony expects us to believe that Uncharted 4 isn't just a video playing on a PS4 after seeing Bloodborne.

The game does look interesting though, but the Souls series has progressively gotten worse and the E3 presentation is really looking bad for this game.

They shouldn't have rebooted Castlevania in the first place. The old universe was fine the way it was.

No, no it really wasn't.

It was far too cluttered and had a shit ton of baggage that scared away new players. Especially considering they kept churning out sequels instead of making new games.

A sequel to Bloodlines. a Sequel to Aria. A semi-sequel to SotN.

Then Judgement happened.

A reboot was going to happen eventually. It was just a matter of how it was handled.

The fact is, the series needs a reboot now even more than it did then. Think what you want, but something tells me we were short-changed somewhere along the way.  ;D

Ironically, I didn't want a reboot until after the reboot happened.

I do agree with the sentiment however, that Castlevania shouldn't belong to one person or group who dictate everything. Never mind the recent revelation that MercurySteam members had to be informed about the series before they started working on the reboot, but aside from that Lords of Shadow may have paved way for more interesting directions for the series in its own misguided sort of way.

IGA was a good producer, very respectful and knowledgeable, but he wasn't perfect either. Castlevania did get stuck in somewhat of a tunnel vision because he adhered to his own preferred formula he established with Symphony of the Night. It was a very interesting take, and I'm probably coming across more negative than I intend to, but I'm my personal opinion I dislike how IGA only sticked to his own ideal "vision" at the expanse of elements that the older games used to have, and how he sometimes tried to overwrite old games to fit his own ideas.

Like for example, I heavily dislike how he changed Maria's personality in Dracula X Chronicles. Everything she says is hilarious in the original Rondo of Blood script, but that was heavily toned down in the new script, to fit the more moody tone from SotN, basically missing the point of what made her such a great character.

This isn't problematic in itself, but I think it is in combination with the amount of time he spend in charge of the series. In a way you could argue he "hijacked" the series for a while (probably too strong of a word, though). Don't suddenly think I hate IGA now though, lol.

Which brings me to my point, the series is at its best when many creative minds get a change to work on it. That's what gave us SCIV, that's what gave us Rondo, that's what gave us SotN, etc. Also, The Arcade was something IGA didn't really work on, and in my opinion one of the best things to come out of the series in years. I really hope the series will return to that line of thought in the future.
