This is a color manual showed in vgmuseum.
http://www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/NewCV/manual-cotm.htm
HOWEVER, my game manual is a monochrome one.
And the info printed in the back showed: KRAZY RACERS ; KECO; KCEJ; KCET;

THIS IS AWESOME misprint!

Did you buy it used at a place other than Gamestop? A lot of smaller, personally owned used game stores photocopy game manuals and as a result you'll get a B&W one.
Mine's in color, just to clarify, but I bought mine used too. The previous owner just traded in the box and everything.

I bought this NEW sealed game on ebay recently.
I don't think this is a personal copy from a small store.
Its print quality is very high. Just like other mono GBA manuals.
The most obvious evidence is the RED characters in original manual is clearly WHITE in this one. If this is a photo copy, RED words can't be scaned as WHITE in the black background.
-
Here is another difference point I found between them.
On the PAGE 23, the color manual's font is different from previous page, but the mono manual's font retain the same.
There is no page number (23 with a sickle) on the color manual.
The mono manual showed them clearly.
My photo is so blurry because of my mobile phone's poor camera.
--------------
BTW,
The mono manual was printed in USA while color manual was printed in JAPAN.
Does anyone know how many COTM manual was printed in USA?
There must some reason for its two version manual exists.

Might be a bootleg then. My copy also has a color manual.
But then again, mine's an eur release, not usa so whatever, doesn't apply. :P

If this is a bootleg, IT MUST BE THE MOST HIGHEST QUALITY BOOTLEG GAME MANUAL IN THE WORLD!
Have you ever see a bootleger draw two awesome sickles in order to consistent with previous page number?
SO, this may be a rare COTM Manual Printed in USA. Not so many copies existed.
-
Another interesting thing.
The release date of COTM and KRAZY RACERS is same as 6/10/2001.
So I guess that this may be the original manual printed in USA, but they misprinted the game title on the back as KRAZY RACERS. Then the print mission was delivered to JAPAN.
Somehow this RARE manual was released in a LIMITED COLPIES.
IT IS THE SO CALLED FIRST PRINT LIMITED EDITION!!!
-
I think you're way too excited over something that nobody probably cares about. Now, I could understand if your SotN copy had artwork of Richter wearing Maria's clothing or Dracula with a bow tie and top hat...that'd be some exciting stuff!
Anywho, I doubt its some kind of crazy limited edition or rare misprint. Probably just a bootleg. And just cause it was sealed means nothing. When I got my Rondo of Blood and my CV Adventure they were both repackaged (The CV Adventure is still in it's wrap cause I have another copy, but the Rondo you can tell was used when the wrap was taken off).

You guys could think its a bootleg.
But I suggest you guys ask KONAMI whether they print such a manual.
If KONAMI admit they printed this kind of manual, I wonder what you guys can say at that point.
-
Good luck asking Konami of Tokyo if they printed a manual for a game by Konami of Kobe, a game they retconned. :o
-
I seriously doubt whether a game's story is canon or not would have any bearing on that. It's not like they're pretending the game itself never existed.
-

Hey, it looks like you even don't know the print mission of many US version Japan-developed KONAMI game manuals are done by KONAMI US.
These are the back of POR and DOS'manual. Their pages are all monochrome.
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi10.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa119%2Fbelmont_yang%2Fmanual.jpg&hash=8d1f6bf44337018cb76549840820c61e408fd3ce)
BTW, I can explain why this monochrome manual was abandoned even if there's a tiny mistake on the back.
Because this is one of the launch title of GBA. The reputation of KONAMI and Nintendo would drop if this misprint happen, so they deliver the reprint mission to Konami Japan.
My only question is, HOW MANY COPIES OF THIS MANUAL BEEN RELEASED?
-
I bought a GBA and COTM when it first came out, so I don't know what to say, other than it appears that the run mixed up the back cover of krazy racer with your COTM. I also want to say bootleg, but who knows?
It might be a later run because of the black and white booklet and the addition of numbered pages. I mean, black and white books seems like a cost cutting thingy, which I assume would happen on later runs, as oppose to early ones
-

I'm waiting anyone who got the same manual as mine to stand out.
If it's a later version, the misprint on the back is unimaginable and unreasonable.
-
...which is probably why it's most likely a bootleg.

Anyway, The website - Chapel of Resonance is awesome.

This is pretty interesting. I got my COTM very early when it was released, and my book is coloured with those Sickles. <-- Canada resident.

How about PAGE 22 ~ PAGE 23?
Are there Sickles in your Page 22~23?
-
I don't see what the big deal is.. lemme rephrase that
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR MEDIOCRE GAME

Which game is mediocre?
You speaks like you are an ANTI-Castlevanian.
-
Yeah I'm sure your ultra rare first print limited edition manual is worth millions.
-
In Reply To #21
That depends on how rare it is.
If it's the only ONE in the world, at least billions...
-
The black and white manual is not a bootleg, because I have it, too :-X
I bought my copy at KMart.
-
Now your manual is only worth thousands.
-
I got mine at Kmart. It's in full color, with the sickles. I think the obvious answer to this is that there were several different print runs with slightly different versions.
But doesn't print quality usually go down over the course of a game's print-life? I mean, first runs will come out with full color game manuals and some extras, and as the game's popularity dies out, the quality of the prints gets scaled back too.
-

Seriously, who the Hell's gonna pay Sh!t for that?! I doubt even the biggest CV collector would. Again, it's not a big deal

I would totally say that game is mediocre at best. Saying SotN or CVIII sucks makes you more an "anti-Castlevania" then saying CotM sucks.
Seriously, what are you, 12 years old? Making a big deal over something nobody cares about. Even if you did get in contact with someone at Konami, they'll probably not remember or even care.
-
I'm guessing the black and white manual is actually for the later prints. I bought my copy in 2003 or so, and I always felt that the quality of the manual was very crappy.
What do you want to say?
Anyway, The website - Chapel of Resonance is awesome.
Thanks, that is a very encouraging thing to say :)
-
I think you're way too excited over something that nobody probably cares about.
You'd be surprised...I've seen and even participated in some "how to tell a sealed NES/SNES game" threads (mostly to say that this sort of stuff is dangerous for collecting since any "rules" could be used by counterfeiters).
Anyhow, hmm.
-
No game rare or not is worth millions, nor is any manual, a few thousand yes, hell one Saturn game by the name of Mizubaku Daibouken (Liquid Kids in the US) only had 2,000 copies ever printed, highest I've ever seen it run is $300, considered one of the rarest titles ever printed.
-

In the collector realm, the most valuable thing is not which one is the best, but which one is the rarest.
The shittiest wrestling game ever in the world : FC M.U.S.C.L.E. bid 756,000 yen in Japan last month.

Do you gonna pay about $7,500 USD for that shit?
Someone will.
-
Anyway, the potential value of this black and white manual is not at its different from font or page numbers,
But its misprint game title and company name on the back.
This is nothing to do with the misprint stamps or money paper, however recently bid uppers like to bid up any crappy things which they can see the space for increasing value.
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi10.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa119%2Fbelmont_yang%2FKrazyRacerKCETKCEOKCEJ.jpg&hash=5c97d3a31df80e360852e32b9d9568356f027ea8)

It's common for bootlegs/pirates to have such errors on the back. It could also be an honest-to-god misprint, of course.

This is true, but we haven't established that it's an official print, at least not to my satisfaction - these stores are in it to make a profit, who knows what they're up to. Bootlegs/pirates aren't worth so much, unfortunately.

Blue Successor:
The black and white manual is not a bootleg, because I have it, too
I bought my copy at KMart.
Do you doubt Kmart are selling bootleg/pirate game softwares and cheating customers?
What else stores or marts do you doubt?
BTW, I've seen tons of bootleg and pirate games. None of them can cheat my eyes beyond 10 seconds.
-
I missed that. Well, did he also have a typo on the back?
-

This question requires Blue Successor to answer.
-
Wow. Heh, I never caught that before, but the back does have a typo that says it was made by KCET.
Yeah, this thing isn't a bootleg. If you guys don't want to take me for my word, I guess I could scan it to show that I have the same manual. I'm afraid I can't prove that I bought it from KMart, though. But... I did ;D

BTW, KCE Tokyo is not the typo. The original color manual also type KCE Tokyo on the back.
The typo part on my manual is "KONAMI KRAZY RACERS" & KCEO & KCE Japan.
KCE Japan focused on MGS2 in 2001. It's weird for KOJIMA to put a hand on Castlevania.
KCE Osaka focused on several crappy shitty games at that time.
-
My memory's fuzzy, but I think both KCEK and KCE Tokyo were also credited on CotM's title screen, so I don't think that's a typo, Sucessor. D:

I actually had the us version of that game.
-
In response to Blue Successor, so it was a later run. Cool
I kinda of knew that if it isnt a bootleg, it has to be a later run because it didn't make sense if the first run was in B&W and the second was color.
-
I can't say with certainty that it is a later print run, that's just a guess. I'm guessing it is because I bought it years after Circle's release. But, for all I know, that copy could have just been sitting on the shelf since 2001. That is actually what I thought, because KMart (at least the one near me) is a rather dusty store that's not kept up as well as Target or even Wal-Mart. So, I sometimes go there with the hope of finding older games that are new and sealed.
-

I kinda of knew that if it isnt a bootleg, it has to be a later run because it didn't make sense if the first run was in B&W and the second was color. Nromally, when they do a re-release, the game company would cheapen the product by giving less color docs and such. Also, the majority of us owns the earlier run games, so it would seem less plausible for it to be an eariler run especially with ppl like myself buying the game the day the GBA came out.
It seems that Konami stuck the end cover of Krazy racers for the later runs of the game either by accident or on puropse
Konami may have lost the original template for COTM and used Krazy Racers as a replacement
I don't think Konami lost the original template for COTM.
The more reasonable guess is:
This is the first print manual for COTM, but it was released and packaged later than the first run.
This manual was printed in USA for the GBA launch, but they misprinted the game title on the back as KRAZY RACERS. The reputation of KONAMI and Nintendo would drop if this misprint happen, so they deliver the reprint mission to Konami Japan. (Printed in Japan)
However, the color manuals were not sufficient to supply more demands for COTM. After the first run, KONAMI packaged this misprint manual to cover it. Obviously the copies of this b/w version were released in limited number.
Anyway, MISPRINT GAME TITLE is ultra rare in the gaming industry. This B/W manual is an absolutely collector item!!!
-----------
BTW, the manual may be less color if the game were released in cheaper version like GREATEST HITS or PLAYERS CHOICE.
However, COTM never been released a cheaper version.
This is another rare situation in the industry.
-

No. No one in their right mind would care about a misprint on the back of a manual.
-

...is that supposed to be a lame way of trying to advertise this for sale?

yeah, it's lame.
If all of COTM manual are like this, they are worth nothing.
Obviously this misprint b/w manual only released a limited copies in the market.
Unlike those shitty "limited edition" released by those game companies, this is an unintentional limited edition.
"The rarer it is, the more it is worth."

No offense, but your theory doesn't makes sense to me.
I mean, the whole "konami had to ship it back because of one mistake" thing sounds silly.

so we have actually gotten a recent CV release with a full color manual like Japan always gets? Sweet.

Most of the US version manuals are b&w, it's surprised to see some color manuals in the market.
May be it's because malicious Capcom , Konami or some else companies manage to shrink their costs, while not so many gamers like you are requiring a color manual.
Even they wish a color one, the company don't care about them if they don't present the suggestion directly to those companies.

why not? back in the old days all the old game manuals used to be in color, I can't understand why Konami of America and the other game companies can't give us color manuals like the oversees market gets considering NA is what's keeping Castlevania afloat for the most part Konami could at least spend the extra 5cents on a color manual.

May I ask the author of the thread if she/he is Japanese?
;D
-
belmont_yang, i'll give you $200 for it!
-
I actually had to sign up just to reply to this topic, because I might have some answers for you all!
I have the same manual that the original poster has..
Monochrome with the "KRAZY RACERS" typo on the back.
I remember I got the game early 2002 at K-Mart because it was already on clearance. I think I only ended up paying 10 bucks for it. I know I got it in 2002 because I got it before I met my finance, who I also met in 2002.
Since I got the game not too long after it's release (8 or so months, tops) it's probably the first printing, and it was just an error by Konami. They probably printed the manual in black and white because they had to get it out for the GBA release and were running low on time.
But to Belmont Yang, you are making way too big of a deal out of this. This typo won't add any value to your game. Since it was probably the first pressing, there are probably several thousand out there, and no one in their right mind would actually pay extra money for a game because of a typo on the back. If the wrong character art was used somewhere or something major was wrong with it, then ok, maybe it'd add 10 or 20 bucks to the value. But stop acting like you have gold in your hands, no matter how rare it is it's not valuable or sought after.
