Out of the 2 IGA 3D-vanias, LoI was the better game. CoD simply compounded all the issues LoI had, plus a it's own problems too. I think Konami knows this and it's just one out of several reasons why they haven't brought it out yet. This is just my opinion on it though.

Probably cause Curse of Darkness is somewhat universally looked down on.

Curse of darkness does have its merits, such as the soundtrack. i love the atmospheric tunes & most of the songs fit each area perfectly. weapon forging was fun, i liked mixing different ingredients to form new weapons (theres even a Guitar). the pathway leading up to the optional Legion fight was pretty cool, how it starts off as a decrepit catacomb & gradually transforms into a large intestine youre traveling through. the Trevor battle was pretty fun. even the first boss battle against that dragon, you can climb on its back while it flies swiftly in the sky trying to make you fall. the Dracula battle was pretty fun too. the first area was very reminiscent of Draculas castle, and the music that went along with it was awesome

Castlevania: Curse Of Darkness Soundtrack: Abandoned Castle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BZqrnJdqiw#ws)

voice acting was hit or miss, but im particularly fond of St. Germain Trevor y Dracula's performances. finding all the chairs to sit on & collect was unique and quirky, right in tune with castlevania. devil forging was ok, i understand what they were trying to do but it just fell flat. although i never did get the chance to unlock Pumpkin. lastly, the prequel manga magnificently drawn by Ayami Kojima. it didnt reveal much, but extra bonuses like that are always a plus

im not gonna go into all its negatives, because thats common knowledge by now

Screw the guitar! I made myself a frying pan with eggs & bacon! I can fight AND eat on the go, lol! Yeah some of those weapons builds were crossing the line a bit *COUGH!*GATLING GUN*COUGH!* The music in my mind was also about the only saving's grace the game had going for it. And actually the voice-acting was a lot better then it was in LoI. The character models coupled with the voice actors was better executed and didn't come off as looking cheesy (in the bad kinda way).

Quote
even the first boss battle against that dragon

Correction there Crisis; A Wyvren. Dragons have four limbs with the wings being separate from the forelimbs. The Wyvren has two limbs or four depending, however the wings and front limbs are coupled together. That and Wyvrens are much smaller then Dragons. Sorry for the info dump, lol.

Curse of Darkness had one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a castlevania game period, I would even rank its overall soundtrack higher than the likes of Symphony of the Night, but that game just had so many problems that it just failed in the end.

And the bad part is that as X pointed out instead of FIXING the issues people had with LOI they instead decided to expand upon it.

We had more repetitive levels, more emphasis on dungeon type battles, and even less platforming.

And as such Lament of Innocence is regarded in higher regard than COD which is a shame really since I really liked COD and hate that IGA wasted such opportunities to address the issues Lament of Innocence had.

But I did like the return of being able to find different assortments of weapons like in SOTN and AOS, something I had always wished LOI had.

I have one question for you: Why?

CoD was a crap game as far as CV goes. Absolutely no platforming. A story that contributes nothing to the overall CV story. The only redeeming thing about it is the soundtrack, which can be purchased on iTunes. Why would Konami put such a disliked game on the PSN? They wouldn't. That's why it isn't there.

Curse of Darkness actually had many things going for it: a genuinely good story that meshed well with the CV aesthetic, a well-designed and well-voiced cast of characters, and of course a terrific Yamane-penned soundtrack. Granted, its gameplay was generally mediocre (although that crafting system was pretty neat), but CoD is capable of standing on its own two legs if you let it. It's not the pinnacle of the series by any means, but I'd still love to see it released on PSN.

The reason I liked CoD is because I mostly knew what I was getting into. I already knew people considered it a bad game, and I walked in knowing that it wasn't going to be a phenomenal game. And as I played it, I realized, "Okay. So this isn't a platformer. At all." I realized early on that this was going to be a dungeon crawler, and as a result, I was able to enjoy it more because I was playing it with a dungeon crawler mindset.

Sure, the environments could use some god damn work (because no matter how much you like the game, there is no denying how atrocious they are). But I liked how simple the game was. It was easy to just jump into and play, and if you take a long break from it, it doesn't require that much getting used to to jump back into. Despite some problems with it, the Innocent Devil system was a good concept that honestly deserved another chance.

On top of that, the cutscenes were top-notch, and the voice acting was phenomenal, and definitely the best in the series (I appreciate it more than LoS's voiceovers simply because there was no case of underwhelming acting, or awfully-delivered screams, which the trilogy had plenty of). No, the story doesn't advance the franchise's plot, but what was there was enjoyable.

And then Trevor Mode was a damn good time, since it's more skill-based.

Don't even get me started on the music. That shit was beautiful.

Overall, the game isn't great, and I don't really ever plan on replaying it in the near future. But was by no means a bad game. So yeah, that's my 2 cents.

It was the same for me, Claimh. I actually  wish it was more like a Musou game, because the most fun I had with the combat was when I was getting swamped with enemies. Sending blood and bits all over the screen was a joy. I just with it committed fully to the brawler route.

I just kind of wish Hector did die after killing Dracula, with the 'hope in the morrow' or whatever speech between Julia and Trevor. It would've been more fitting that way.

Also leaving Trevor's fate ambiguous was kind of odd. I mean yeah, CV veterans know he lived by virtue of Christopher existing but it was kind of odd to say 'he survived, but even now his life hangs by a thread' and...never mention him again.

Yes, and this just makes me want this game even more... It brings me some good memories, the ost is just dang awesome, the innocent devil sistem was really fun too, all the secrets, item crafting, collectables, etc. Not the best Castllevania indeed but why not give us this game too to complete the PS collection?

Thank you for all your replies and opinions.

i really dont care for julia i mean her voice actor would put me to sleep. meh

the script itself was hokey too, i dunno if that exactly adds to its charm in the same way that symphony's hoky dialogue added to its charm. cant really decide

ive always had this fan theory of mine that Shanoa is in fact a descendant of Hector + Julia. would explain her natural affinity with magic

st. Germain was a refreshing character & totally out-of-place. i remember when i first seen his artwork in the previews, i was like "whoa why is he dressed like that? did they get the time period wrong or is that intentional?" and the fact that he's based on the real-life myth of Comte de Saint Germain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_of_St._Germain).. few other games series are as clever to include stuff like this. i personally feel it wouldve been cool if Germain appeared in the LoS saga, not as a "reimagined" version but the same exact character. it could work, becuz he can exist outside of space & time so nothing would be affected. its a shame we'll prolly never see him again :/   @beingthehero why do you have Successor cosplaying Sonic in your signature

I would like this because I've not played Curse of Darkness yet. I've played most of LoI but still haven't beat it on PS3. Would I like it?

Speaking of LoI, I found this and I think it's my favorite Castlevania piece now. It's absolutely phenomenal. Shame it wasn't in game.

are they still releasing new PS2 classics on the PS3, or is everything new gonna go on PS Now pretty soon?  hope we don't have to wait a long time before CoD comes out there because they're busy slowly putting SotN, Chronicles, and LoI up there first.

i'd also buy a PS4 in an instant if they upgraded it to play ps2 disks.

I agree completey they should bring it to the psn network like LoI so you can dl for ps3 or ps4. If anything it annoys the hell out of me the capability of the vita..and yet they never seem to release any ps2 or ps3 ports for it other than a select handful of ps3 games..usualy not identical either.. No mirror of fate, no LoI, and more than likely no Cod. I'm hoping sony allows for ps2 dowloads at some piont..so i can atleast play LoI and yeah hopefully eventually CoD. I might have been more impressed had they more vania games for the vita. I got chronciles psx and drac x chronicles...they both are very good. But they need more for vita..simply put..for all great games.

PS2 games on PSN don't work on PS4. Only on PS3.

PSN is not a software platform. It is only the method in which the game is delivered to you.

I didn't mind CoD, it was actually a pretty beautiful game to look at and listen to for the most part. But the levels were just too fucking big. I think if they'd have cut the size of the levels in half, it would bring the game up a bit. I finished it once and I actually started the game another several times, but I could never get through it due to losing interest. There was a lot of wasted potential in that game.

Oh i didnt  psn was only exclusive to ps3.. that sorta sucks if you have ps4 then.. i wonder how that works. I have a ps3 and vita..thankfully. Cause they got tricky with vita..now you can't get the ps one games through dl anymore on the vita store.you have to buy them through the ps3 and upload them into the vita...what a marketing ploy! Still it would be nice to know more about the ps4 store as compared with the ps3 store. Similarly their were games on psp that dont show up on psvita that show up on ps3 store taht you can dl into the vita.. That is hit or miss.. MY friend just got a ps4 i should investigate it's store further..

@ doctor mario...i would have to disagree. I think the size of the maps are fine..with a couple iffies in the game.. I think they should have made differnt enemies more unique and not just clones of easier/harder enemies.. It felt a bit regurgated. And some areas within the maps felt very generically the same..like too similar..Escecially in enaomous clocktower.. and drac's castle. I think they shoulda made the rooms alot more unique  and not so the same. I remember alot of LOI haveing very distintive areas. Though i'll agree with alot of people the fact that trevor kicks ass to use is a hugh reason for replay value. Just wish you could access the lazer whip which they dont allow..

Again, PSN (Playstation Network) is NOT a games platform. It is only the method of which you connect Playstation devices to Sony's merchandise service. You buy games and DLC on it. It does not play the game. It has nothing to do with what games run on what Playstation systems. You cannot buy a PS3 game and play it on your Vita much the same way you cannot buy a PS3 game and play it on your PS4. If the system doesn't support it, you can't play it whether or not you purchased and downloaded it using PSN.

It is the same as Steam, where you can buy a PC game but just because you have Steam on your Apple computer doesn't mean you can magically play PC games with it. It's just an online store for games.

Either way i just think that through psn network they should allow for all consoles that COULD contain the game on that system.. Like for ps3,ps4 or psvita..instead of having to buy them individually on each system.. dl service or no dl service.

You CAN buy Vita games through the PS3 and PS4.. But not vice versa. And you can't buy PS4 games through the PS3. Vita games can be bought since they can be stored on your system and then transferred over to the Vita. The Vita does not have access to the PS3 and PS4 games since the system itself can't play them, and definitely can't hope to hold most of those games efficiently (especially not PS4 games). Same goes for why PS3 can't buy/download PS4 games, and hell, one PS4 game is bigger than what the PS3's Blu-Ray disc can even hold (Blu-Ray disc is 50GB, Killzone: Shadow Fall for PS4 is approximately a whopping 60GB).

That's... my theory, anyway. But it makes a lot of sense when put like that. I'm pretty sure you can buy for every platform through the PSN website, but I've never done that so I don't know.

Besides, why would you be buying PS4 games without a PS4? And if you have one... why would you be buying them with one of the other systems, and not through your PS4? etc. etc. On top of all that, if every game for every system was available on every version of the PSN, the PSN itself would later on be pretty damn cluttered.

Also, while I would like the ability to play PS2 games on my Vita, that would require them to do more patches and stuff to make the games compatible with the Vita (due to the Vita lacking L2, L3, R2, R3, pressure-sensitive buttons, rumble might be an issue, or even the game itself might be an issue due to being a PS2 game).

tl;dr... The PSN works the way it is. Just a bit of a hassle to navigate on PS3.

Yeah, the UI is just weird, and it takes a REALLY long time to load. I miss the old one. The Vita's UI for the PSN, though, is really nice and easy to navigate.

COD was a great game in its own rite, the issue is that the placement was extremely detached from the Castlevania Universe. When Devil Forgemasters who worked under Dracula were mentioned I thought "oh cool, they must have been bosses from CVIII..." erm sadly..... No.

The OST quality I concur is among the best in the series, certain tracks like Garibaldi temple evoke an coldness, isolation and eeriness, unseen in other games which could learn a thing or two from COD.

Saint Germain, come on, he's all class; the great historical figure and master of alchemy, would you expect any less than sophisticated and suave?

My only gripe about characters is Hector, he is forgettable, another Aluclone. Isaac is a much more memorable and distinctive character.
He's got balls though, he defeated Dracula.

I don't believe innocent devils were a bad idea at all, they make Sotn's familiars look like a$$ (aside from the sword)
Did anyone even bother to level them all the way up? THE END, that is all.

comparing CoD to LoI

CoD had a good concept, but didn't execute well enough imo. Id play LoI over that any day of the week

For a time traveler who was sworn not to interfere with time, the way he dressed was way out of place for 1479. It would violate just one of the many temporal regulations he's supposed to uphold. That's one of the reasons why I thought his character didn't work. If you're going to travel into the distant past then A) you need to look the part (important). And B) you need to act the part.

Hector is very much an Alucard clone yes, and I've always felt that he should not have fought Dracula as he is not a Belmont therefore it is not his job. Of course Trevor was "conveniently removed" and we never saw him again. That was bad storytelling right there. Issac was even more out of place then St. Germain and he was memorable all right; for all the wrong reasons  :P Issac's look made CoD feel like it was a borderline sausage fest. The voice acting was good, really good. But his look I felt was all wrong. Definitely out of place in 1479. And since CV is so very much based in real history with a few small exceptions I feel it's only natural that it retain that element. Unfortunately CoD I felt alienated from that element. As for the Devil forging aspect, to me it felt forced. It was never in CV III and thus CoD wasn't a smooth transition in that aspect. It would have been better if the game itself was not a sequel, but it's own entry into the series, with a plot set by Issac to revive Dracula using Devil forging.

Despite what other people say about the game, I enjoyed CoD and would very much like a PSN release for it as well. Months ago, I was wondering why LoI was only available since both games weren't that well-recieved, and personally I'd play and prefer CoD over that game anyway. Yeah, the corridors were repetitive and the story could've been executed better, but the music was great, the devil and weapon forging system were fun, combat wasn't spectacular but pretty solid, and the voice acting was great. Because I lack a PS2 yet own a copy of the game, I'd rather buy it again on PSN since I mostly play my PS3 anyway. Just my two cents.

Months ago, I was wondering why LoI was only available since both games weren't that well-recieved,

LoI did pretty good, actually.

Edge gave it an 8/10, Eurogamer gave it a 7/10, GameInformer gave it an 8/10, GamePro gave it a 5/5, GameSpot gave it a 7.7/10, GameSpy gave it a 3/5, GameZone gave it a 9/10, IGN gave it a 9/10, and OPSM gave it a 4/5. The average score was approximately 8/10.

CoD didn't do as good, but still received some decent scores.

1UP gave it 7.5/10, GamePro 4/5, GameSpot 6.8/10, GameTrailers 7.9/10, GameZone 7.8/10, IGN 7.8/10, Play Magazine 9/10, TeamBox 7.6/10, X-Play 3/5, Games Hell 8.5/10, Hardcore Gamer 4.5/5, RPG Fan 82/100. The average score was approximately 7.8/10.

LoI actually had some pretty high scores across the board, with CoD having the "okay" scores. Still, Warriors Orochi managed to make an appearance as a PS2 Classic, and despite me loving that game, I know it received some pretty low scores across the board (hell, the only one listed on Wikipedia is OXM's 5.5/10).

You know GummiCandyfulk since you have a PS3 you can download off the PSN a PS2 emulator program that will let you play your PS2 games. If you have an older PS3 like mine it should already have the backwards compatibility built into it for PS2 and PSX games.

There's no such thing. If you're referring to the PS2 System thingy whatever, all that does is make it possible to play the PS2 games that required a hard drive to play. Even then, though, it doesn't work with any but the old fat model of the PS3, since the slim or the slim-slim models aren't compatible with PS2 games.

The only thing that is on there for the PS2 is the "PS2 System Data". It's an app that states "This is system data for playing PlayStation 2 format software that must be installed on the hard disk of a PLAYSTATION 3 system." This is NOT an emulator for playing PlayStation 2 games. The only thing it does is allow people to play games that previously required the PS2's hard drive on the PS3 (i.e. Final Fantasy XI). As far as I know, this is the only PS2 thing that's ever been on the PSN. I even did some (quick) searching on the internet and there was no mention of a PS2 emulator ever being on the PSN.

Oh so that's what it was. Okay I get it now. Kinda a shame really. Lots of PS2 gamers could really benefit from a reverse-comparable emulator for their PS3s. I guess I was one of the lucky few that got the older model, let alone having it still function considering how often I play it. Thanks for the info clear-up Claimh Solais  :)

No worries about it. I thought it was the same thing when I first saw it ages ago, and got let down by it, lol. Anyway, despite having a slim PS3, I'm still lucky enough to have a PS2 still in my possession.

I just really don't understand why newer consoles are not really allowing reverse compatibility anymore. I my mind that's stupid. It's everyones' right as a gamer to have such options available.

Cost. The PS4 is as cheap as 400$ in part because they didn't add any backwards compatibility. I would have prefered an optional more expensive model though that did include it. However because the original PS3 models were way over cost with the PS2 compatibility, which subsequently made it suffer in sales, I can see what scared Sony off about even bothering with the PS4 having any backwards compatibility.

It's everyones' right as a gamer to have such options available.

That's sarcastic, right? I really hope so.

They should come out with a final PS3 model that has PS2 BC restored, so basically you'd have PS1-2-3 all in that console and PS4 for newer games. It should be cheap enough now to reintegrate the PS2 components into a PS3. The problem is they've been tempted away from something that's good for the consumer by PS2 classic sales which don't provide access to the entire PS2 library and never will.

THIS in particular pisses me off, badly. The PS2 was one of the greatest consoles of all time, with some really amazing games, to boot. Yet for whatever reason, we're getting a couple okay yet critically-acclaimed (for their time) games, and a crap ton of niche games (and not even the niche games I want).

I mean, the EU and JP regions have all the Dynasty Warriors games. WHY DON'T WE?

heh.
It's my understanding that sony could care less about customers and what they want (Gaming)

I mean people crave accessibility, what's so hard for them to understand.

We bought all of your trinkets and do-dads, why can't you simply {re}integrate them?

You want more money, we'll give you more money. Stop with the awful timing and droughts that keep us wanting more; only to have our hands smacked away from your evil cookie jar.

Why do you hope it's sarcasm? I'm not attacking you. What I mean is that as gamers we should be allowed to enjoy our classics on newer machines. If our older systems break down (PS1 & PS2) and there are no replacements available then how are we supposed to play the older titles? That's where backwards compatibility would take precedence, and besides the PSNetwork doesn't have the entire library of games from those two systems available for DLC.

It has nothing to do with attacking anyone. Saying that it's some 'right' makes you look like a spoiled brat. First world problems to the max there.

This is an entertainment industry. They don't owe you jack shit, no matter how much you feel they do. They produce, you buy. That relationship ends there.

What can I say? I love my video games. You may think they owe us nothing but that's not entirely correct. Business is always foreshadowed by reality. And that reality is this; We stop buying, they fall. Hard. We are their lifeline as a consumer of their products. We are keeping them afloat in the business world. Without us they die as a company. So they do owe us something for our continued patronage. 'They produce, you buy' is the relationship, yes, no question about it. But the reality is not anywhere near that black & white. Not in a world of infinite variables.

As needlessly flowery as that reply was, it's still off base.

Just because a company doesn't do what you want them to doesn't make you entitled to what you wanted, or that they somehow owe you it. This has nothing to do with your 'rights'. You're not unjustly wronged by them disagreeing with, or not giving a shit about, what you think they should produce. You're still as free as ever to support or not support them as you see fit.

They will simply make what they want to make, and their success will hinge on how the market accepts it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Bleh, no. There were too many points in the game where there'd be a fork in the road and both trails ended up in the same place. That's just level bloating to a ridiculous degree. There was a LOT of fat trimming they could have done with the levels in this game. Again, the levels were really pretty to look at, but there was just too much of most of them considering they reused a lot of the hallways, rooms, and assets. I'd agree with you if there were more assets, but they created a few things and copypasted them in absurd amounts.

Get a decent PC. It's the ultimate BC machine. The PSXC2 or whatever its called isn't perfect, but it works pretty damn good. You could rip an ISO of your copy of the game and play it on your PC.

No issues there. I've got a pretty good PC on my hands at the moment. My PS3 emulates both PS2 and PSX games so I'm not hurting there either. I'm just more 'n less concerned that someday my PS3 is going to crap out on me and there won't be any replacements with all it has. I've been lucky so-far and had two close calls with it, but I'll never know when the digital god of death will come knocking on my door to cart away my poor cold dead PS3.  :'(

All you can do is make sure it's taken care of. Plenty of room to ventilate, regularly rebuild the database and file system restore, and clean around the areas where it needs to vent.

I recently read about the system restore options and that's what saved my system from a no-sound issue. So I'm thankful for that. It also gets plenty of vent exposure and I also take my vacuum cleaner nozzle and remove all the dust that may have ended up inside. I do the same with my computer tower.

^This. CoD needed more varied levels. In fact, the biggest reason I don't wanna play the game is trekking through those tedious levels again. It's like they tried doing something that would pass in a 2D game, and tried it in 3D, and it failed miserably, like one would expect.

They should definitely add retro compatibility, even though nothing forces them to. The relation ship they produce/you buy  a bit hard to me, and if this is true, then what is also true is that if a company that disappoints me goes bankrupcy, i wont cry.

Too many companies assume they can decide what people want or do not want, and this hurts them on a long termist view.

I would say curse of darkness is definitely not a excellent castlevania game. The good point is you can raise your familiars , which gives the game a bigger life span.

But yet i prefer this one to the recent Lords of Shadow games.

I have to say that the strange garden where you unlock stupid items is one of the things that shocked me in Curse of Darkness.Even worse than the poney level in Diablo 3.
