She could have given us a bearded Simon way before MoF....and one who did this as a hobby, apparently:

Well, I like it better than glam rock pretty boy Simon, that's for sure.

If there's a caption explaining the picture, we can determine properly if this is a Simon design, but as far as I know, she does illustrations for novels, that pic might be one of those insert illustrations.

Anyone who has the book, can you provide a scan/pic with the caption?

I'm pretty sure that picture is from some random novel since it's on a page with a bunch of other random pictures that are not Castlevania. I don't have access to my scanner right now, but it is picture "III" on page 128 of the Santa Lilio Sangre artbook. I took a picture of the page I found it on and the caption with my camera.

Agreed. The above illustration doesn't look like it came out of some twilight-esque paranormal bromance as did the CV Chronicles cover.

It came from the novel entitled: Voyage of the Bewitched Moon

Bearded Simon Belmont is older than you think:

The artwork is an illustration of the Japanese novel "妖月の航海 王朝アラベスク綺譚" of 22 years ago. Unrelated probably.

Isn't this artwork Ray (http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/File:Ray_Belmont.png)'s thing?

Actually, I think I made a mistake there. It's Simon. He appears in part 1. I don't think Ray is introduced until part 2.

Yeah I should have specified that this wasn't actual concept art for Simon, just art she had done before for another project.

there are many many designs in Santa lilio Sangre that could serve as potential Belmont material, the book came out years ago & people are still discovering this stuff lol

The question is whether or not he's ginger.  :P

I like that design. MOF's Simon has my favorite design, but I thought he should have had more "regal" armor, despite being a mountain man. Less belts and more armor.

According to the data which I obtained recently, this artwork came from the LOG OUT issue August, 1993 (Volume 9). Akumanochi-chinoakumu part 2, chapter 3. This artwork is used on the first scene for young Simon and Ray to meet. Opening page is young Simon artwork.

105 is a private artwork made 1997. 026 is Hideyuki Kikuchi's 2007 novel 妖魔戦記 長編超伝奇小説 (http://www.7netshopping.jp/books/detail/-/accd/1102410499/) cover art.

Yes, the artwork is from that issue. Ah, really? Then I might not have made a mistake after all. I think Simon and Ray are drawn very similarly to each other. By the way, do you have more info about the identities of the characters drawn in the story? Often I'm not sure because I can't read the story.

His design is in contrast to Trevor, who's the regal one. conversely to him, Simon is bare chested, with some furs and slight armoring on his arms, legs and abdomen.

It is easy. Ray is mustached. Simon does not have mustache.

Yup, I got that. Actually, I meant other characters that appear in the novel.   :-\
