Title: The sexism of Shovel Knight

I've been in a debate for a couple weeks over whether or not Shield Knight's design in Shovel Knight is sexist. An agent provocateur has alleged that Shield Knight's exposed face is sexist. Because...you can't hide a pretty face. On the other hand at least three other Knights in the game (Polar Knight, Gaz, and that forgettable shonen type guy) have exposed faces as well. I think saying that Shield Knight's design being sexist is utterly goofy, but men of mystery say that it's a valid criticism. What do you all think?

I...this...okay, that's just being silly. I mean seriously, what the hell? That's just plain nitpicking right there. The artstyle just doesn't lend to that argument. Either that guy's trolling or he's plain nucking futs.

I can't really say because they (used to) post here, and I wasn't interested in calling them out or anything. I just really wanted to know if I was missing something with the design.

And here I though the argument would spin around the "Knight saves princess" trope, because it feels sexist how she couldn't save herself despite being a knight and still needing a male knight to do it.

But no, they always aim for the ridiculous arguments.

Of note: I find nothing in Shovel Knight even slightly sexist. The argument I proposed would be their strongest hand in arguing about this supposed sexism.

There in is the problem.
There is nothing inherently sexist about anyone saving anyone else that is in trouble.
They would both be stupid arguments that do nothing more than help to create the inequality that is being fought.
I used to think of my self as a feminist, but the word itself is a polarizing term that is inherently divisive.
I'm an equalist, and poking around at fictional characters in a video game when there are for more important aspects of our society that need to be corrected (equal pay for women, racial profiling) is just ignorant and insulting.

This makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. Did this person (if we can call 'em that) do their own research about the history of medieval warfare? The closed helmet design and the open-faced helmet design have both existed since antiquity. There's absolutely nothing sexist about that. Different helmets for different tasks or just your preference. It sounds like this "Boob" is just looking to start another flame war because he's bored.

As for the helmet design, I think it is much easier to see with an open-faced helmet than a closed one.

But seriously, I don't find this sexist. She's a hot girl inside a fanservice videogame. What the hell one should expect from it?
Also, being a woman doesn't make her unable to fight and whatnot.

I find it funny when some feminists say "I must be able to wear whatever I want without being objectified!" but as soon as someone creates a character that dresses like this "They're slutifying us! OUTRAGE!".

I admit I'm being a little cynical. But still~

One, ZSG, don't take everything Waffle says seriously. He is a master at sarcasm and wry humor.
Two, his sig is a fuckin' drawing. Just because he has a drawing of scantily-clad characters doesn't necessarily mean he endorses any suggestive themes it implies. And I doubt the artist drew them with that in mind. It's not like it's an R34 pic, for Christ's sake, it's fuckin' chibis of game characters. I fail to see how that even remotely justifies you (or anyone) making a judgment call like that.

EDIT: Not that I know of, Guy. The topic's about Shield Knight's face being exposed, not Shovel's.

Easy now, Dracula. Hero wanted discussion, sure, but he was also just joshing around with a friend of his and mine, and I think ZeroSaberGreen was kidding around in his response to Super Waffle too. If that's how the Sorceress chooses to dress, then who are we to argue. One of the many steps towards empowerment is choosing for yourself. A person's choice wardrobe reflects who they are inside. Just one of the many aspects of humanity. That's not something anyone should judge as we don't have that right. Wear what you want to wear, be what you want to be. The choice is yours. Although many who are sexist or are of the extreme feminist movements will not see it that way. But I feel they are wasting their time fighting for an empty cause. Just like the Nazis did with their so-called "master race" argument.  :P

people actually have complained about that.

Despite the story being she was just fine, but corrupted.

And the fact that, yknow, she's literally invincible gameplaywise as she has shields on both arms.

which IMO, is pretty cool as far as gimmicky funny weapons go.

It's a shame Shield Knight is not an unlockable character. I have to wonder how she'd play in regards to Shovel Knight. Probably a lot of Shield-bashing & slicing.
