Title: CV: CoD ending lied?
Post by: darkwzrd4 on March 17, 2008, 04:28:40 PM
For those who beat Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, at the end Saint Germain said something like "let's go into the far future to the final battle."  Which to me, hinted that the next game would be the one that would take place in 1999 in which Dracula would be defeated once and for all.  However, instead Konami made Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.  Did CoD's ending lie to us or is PoR suppose to set the stage for it.  Either way, the game with the 1999 battle should have been made by now.

He's talking chronologically relative to the games storyline. not the order the games are made. we got LoI long after CV 1,2 &3, Bloodlines and rondo.

Konami can makes games in any order they want. so games don't have to flow in a set timescale.  ( one game every 100 years etc. )

I understand.  However, I would like to know why Konami hasn't made that game that takes place in 1999 yet.  I mean it seems like they already have a general idea of what happens in the game.  So what's taking so long??

I think the 1999 story is going to be a big epic game, which would probably end up being in 3D. Since IGA's none too happy with his 3D attempts they're probably just waiting to til they know they can get it right.

Dracula's final death just wouldn't be as epic if it was done in 2D sprites

What would make such a game epic other than Dracula being killed? We're already familiar with the protagonist, a CVIII-like deal with J having backup, the twist (Julius gets a Hakuba Priest to seal Drac), etc. Other than that, it's going to be the same thing- fight in a Castle with a gameplay gimmick.

I doubt that it would be in 3D.  The reason is that it is likely that Alucard will be in it and I don't see anyway to use him in a 3D environment unless the battles are RPG style, which I doubt will ever be in a Castlevania game.  While using a sword in a 3D environment is no big deal, but the problem is using his spells.  If that can be worked out, then I would be happy to try playing as him in a 3D environment.

You haven't been looking at the right sprites.

Didn't "PortraitOfRuin" that some of yous idolize say that there will be 2 1999 games? lol.

Personally I hope this game will be in 3D, with proper controls/gameplay & fantastic environments. This should be the game that is listed among the ranks of God of War, DMC, etc.

Face it, a 2D game won't be taken seriously by todays standards. CV needs to step into the next gen.

I don't get why people find a 3-D Alucard hard to implement.

Yeah, Germain clearly refers to to the 1999 battle. But then again, he has travelled throught time hundreds of years and CoD was the first time we saw him. and we've been jumping around the timeline since the beginning.

Drac himself refers to the same event at the end of PoR too, btw ("We'll see who gets the last laugh").

He says stuff like that all the time though. I doubt it was an intentional mentioning of that event, but rather "curses, I'd have won were it not for those blasted kids! Next time I'll win!!1 *blah*"

Ok, if you are so smart, how would we use Alucard's spells?  In a 3D format, we would not be able to do them like we did in SotN.  So smart guy, I'm waiting for your answer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are several 3-D games where spells are used.

If you mean we wouldn't be able to do them EXACTLY like in SotN, you're right. But then again, why should we?

Yeah, it doesn't have to be the same, make some new spells up and make him do things differently. Besides, isn't that what almost everyone does here, bitch about things in the series being the same?

Anywho, as much as I love the 2D Side scrollers I still think it would be a bit lackluster as the most important event in the story to be in 2D. Of course, they would need it to be good 3D to make it phenomenal.

your funny.lol
you really believe that they can't do the spell in 3d and what makes you think this?
it would be easy i know IGA's 3d's castlevania aren't the greatest but please even he can pull it off.lol
look at god of war the spells it has, come on your not giving IGA enough credit
even the ppl who hate IGA with all there heart know he could do that easy.lol

anyway i wish he would make a castlevania game with more open play like zelda has,all the stages feel more like little boxs to me.lol
but i still loved the games i just think they could had been better:P

Ok, I admit it. I don't know of any 3D videogames, other than RPG's, in which you can use spells easily enough for them to be effective.

So how do you guys think we would use Alucard's spells if he is in a 3D game?  I think that it would be something like with Soma, in which you equip the spells/abilities to the character.

Or like god of war. You'll just have to press and keep pressed a defencive button and another one button to activate the spell. You'll just have to equip which spell you want to have and use.

How about button combos like in SOTN? or use the spells menu in the way the demon command menu is in COD that works effectivly. Also, just a random thought but does Alucard even need spells?

Well he would be a pretty dull character without them.  I think he needs some spells as well as his vampire abilities like dark metamorphosis (his blood healing ability).

I'm sure it's also taking them some time to figure out the most awesome epic way dracula is finally destroyed and his power sealed into the eclipse too.
