Title: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream
Post by: uzo on October 22, 2014, 09:23:09 PM
UPDATE 1:
October 31st : 7PM EST (11PM GMT)
AND
November 1st : Subject to how I feel the next day.

Decided to do both Halloween Night and the next night (so Friday AND Saturday nights), since people may be busy one or the other. Bonus points for showing up for both and wasting your life away.

UPDATE 2:
Stream channel on Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/marcdwyz/profile (http://www.twitch.tv/marcdwyz/profile)
The stream will be there on the noted date and time.

--------

I'm thinking of doing this if there are enough people interested. So this would be a Friday night Halloween special stream (unless another time that weekend works better for everyone?). Also you have to be OK with me not being very good at the harder games in the series. I love ClassicVania's but I generally don't beat them very easily, often not in a single sitting either.

So with that, if you're interested in watching me suck at Castlevania and ramble on with you guys all night then let me know here.

I'm not sure which games I'll be playing. Feel free to suggest but I won't blindly play everything suggested. I'm a picky bastard, but thankfully the franchise has so many good titles to pick from.

how about Belmonts Revenge, Adventure ReBirth, or Dracula X Chronicles

I'm all for this. I'm ok with what you or other people want to see. I just want some Belmont action.

I'd pop in if I'm not working.

And you, a picky bastard? Never.

If we pushed it to the day after Halloween would everyone be able to make it then? Id imagine it'd be easier to catch.

Screw it. Let's make this less complicated and make it a DOUBLE NIGHT STREAM.

October 31st AND November 1st

There's a lot of Castlevania's to pick from so there's no shortage of material, that's for sure.

how about Belmonts Revenge, Adventure ReBirth, or Dracula X Chronicles
Oh on that, not a fan of the first two gameboy titles. The other two you mentioned are fair game though provided I can get the hookup going to stream from those consoles.

Belmont's Revenge is nowhere near as difficult as The Adventure. How about SCV4? That one's always a good Halloween treat.

How about Dracula X/ Vampires kiss? We rarely see those.

Strange, Im sure that I've posted here already yet I dont find my post, it yet another new thread uzo? xD

What about saying the time it will start? Also the GMT please, since not everyone here are from USA.

Belmont's Revenge is nowhere near as difficult as The Adventure. How about SCV4? That one's always a good Halloween treat.

Has nothing to do with difficulty in this case. I simply find those games too slow and lame.

SCVIV is a sure in though. It's my favorite ClassicVania.

How about Dracula X/ Vampires kiss? We rarely see those.

I would probably not get like half way through that masochist party. I beat it once in my life, and I'm fine leaving it at that. >_>

Undetermined currently. I would expect 7PM EST would be Friday's starting time. (11PM GMT)

That one could show up. Japanese version though, cause I'm a baby and don't like the removed check points of the US release.

It could sound strange, but you're willing to play some hack or fangame too? Or you only play on consoles so you can blow the cartridges and feel the nostalgia?
Title: Re: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream
Post by: uzo on October 24, 2014, 03:16:05 PM
Fan games that are not rom hacks yes, but the legality of some emulation is too iffy and I'd rather avoid it if possible.

That said I own and dumped all my PSP isos, so that is fair game for me to use a PSP emulator with them to get a high resolution, provided the emulator works for the game. It currently doesn't seem to support DXC correctly though (really bad graphic glitches). However I can hook my PSP-Slim to the tv if all else fails, and video capture that.

The way I have my entertainment system setup makes it extremely easy to capture video from a wide range of inputs, and this weekend I'm going to be verifying which consoles I can indeed capture from. Then I can get a better idea of which games I can play on stream. And yes, that means I will be using original hardware where possible, so no save state or cheating bullshit or any of that.

So I suggest CV2 Revamped.

A worse looking and worse playing version of the same broken game? Not a chance in hell, sorry.

I'm considering doing Lecarde Chronicles, since I never got around to actually finishing it. That could take some time though, being difficult and pretty long. We'll see how it shakes out. It's an amazing game.

IDK, never played this game for more than 20 minutes, but I've seen people talking good things about it here on the dungeon. I know it isnt perfect but atleast metroidquest did finish it and tried do something for us, if atleast he fixed all bugs... :)

You like Kid Dracula?

Good point. I never really played Kid Dracula other than trying it for a few moments. What version is better? NES or GB?
Title: Re: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream
Post by: Lelygax on October 25, 2014, 03:14:00 AM
They have different stories, IIRC Kid Dracula GB is a sequel to the NES version. The two play the same but the NES version have colors.

Good call. I haven't played that in a while.

Sorta. Twitch is removing them now after like 14 days. I'm trying to figure out the best way to save them. Maybe a youtube account to archive.

Title: Re: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream
Post by: uzo on October 30, 2014, 01:45:28 PM
OK, so a little update. Everything seems on task for tomorrow. I may not be able to use as much original hardware as I would like. While I can hook them up easily enough to my system, the capture card I'm using doesn't seem to take Component input that isn't of a certain format (720i/p and up). If I can get this working I will, but I may have to use Virtual Console titles to fill the gaps.

Secondly, if you had to choose just one 'metroidvania' which would you rather see? Because of their time consuming play time, I don't think I'll be able to get through more than one of them.

OoE, Albus Hard Mode Lv. 1. LET'S ATTACK AGGRESSIVELY
In all seriousness though, I'm pretty much fine with anything as long as there's a semblance of challenge to it.
Title: Re: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream
Post by: X on October 30, 2014, 03:09:14 PM
I'm not sure it is feasible to play through a Metroidvania for a live stream. The classic titles are a better bet since they are relatively short. However there are a limited number of those available to play- Oh! What about streaming Chastlevania Chronicles? Not DXC but the PS1 Chronicles.

¿A Metroidvania? I vote for CoTM. I feel that game as an apart from the others of its type, because of the lack of a shop to buy supplies 8).
Title: Re: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream
Post by: uzo on October 30, 2014, 09:37:28 PM
I think I have a good idea of what i'll be starting with tomorrow.

SotN - luck code naked run (only equipping weapons for the most part)
Kid Dracula
Castlevania Chronicles

I may do more depending on how much I suck and die forever on any one of these games.

Expect Super Castlevania IV and Castlevania ReBirth. Probably will end up doing those on the 1st.

Post by: Lelygax on October 31, 2014, 12:25:31 PM
You will do the true ending in this naked room? It will be fun to see someone fighting Galamoth without using shield rod's spells and without equipping a beryl circlet.
Title: Re: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream
Post by: uzo on October 31, 2014, 03:05:25 PM
Galamoth may be the exception, or I might just skip him. His fight is so damn boring and drawn out if you're not equipped right. Though I will agree it is too lame when you are equipped for it, haha.

edit: it is being so fun, he even did the "wolf divekick" glitch that I asked him to do :-D
He now took a little break after dying 21 times on SotN and will come back to play Kid Dracula hehee.

Im on my job, here I can download at 1000KB/s and even so its lagging. But in my case it can even be a regional problem with Twitch, who knows.

edit: Stream ended now, it was so fun, everyone had a good time sharing ideas to beat levels and poking fun at everything, like Dracula's umbrella.

Not SotN apparently. Was going to switch to the Xbox360 version, since I can stream off of HDMI, but, I got it back from someone who was borrowing it and now it doesn't work so.... Aria of Sorrow might be taking it's place.

Got another work around thanks to another stream watcher. SotN is on!

UPDATE: ReBirth is out unfortunately. It refuses to acknowledge the Wii's signal for streaming, even though PS2 works on the same component connection.
Title: Re: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream

I will only watch it from 6PM EST onward unfortunately. About ReBirth, what about using Dolphin? I know that you prefer the real thing, but this way you can run it until the end normally.

Thanks to everyone who popped in and hanged out. I really enjoyed the whole thing, and I plan to stream more sometime very soon. CV Fighter was hype, so I want to play more of that on stream too.

Some of the games that I'll likely be streaming sometime soon:

Super Castlevania IV
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
Legend of Korra (Hard Mode Playthrough)
Ultra Street Fighter IV (PC)
Street Fighter III Third Strike (PS3)

Also going to continue to try getting my capture card working for older systems. I got my NES, SNES, N64, etc all hooked up for this shit, but they just don't work with it. NES feed patched into HDMI is really weird, lol.

Sure, it wouldn't hurt to try, thanks for the tip bro :P
I was at my work (I work only on weekends and holidays) so I cant test it yet. I was trying another fix that involves using VLC player and a program called Livestreamer but it run the same way, like in the browser, because this fix is mostly for choosing video quality, yours only had "source" quality.

Even so I watched it on VLC and opened the chat in a separate window, pretty neat since I could do another basic things without missing anything.
Title: Re: Halloween 2-Day Castlevania Live Stream
Post by: uzo on November 02, 2014, 10:04:15 PM
I found out that only Twitch Partners get to have other options besides Source quality. This is another status above even paid Twitch users. They only select people to be partners as they see fit, it seems. Thus I may not be able to actually fix that issue.

I'm going to be testing a new way to record Twitch steams in about a half hour. Castlevania Fighter Returns! Tune in if you want to see more of that game.

So that's today at 8:30 EST.

EDIT: It worked. It recorded nicely. Though I suppose it wasn't an HD stream so we'll have to try it on an HD game at some point.
