Title: November Castlevania Dungeon Sprite Contest Theme Poll
Post by: Shiroi Koumori on November 02, 2014, 11:16:28 AM
Since we can't decide on what theme the next contest should be, it would be best to have a poll to decide.

Voting closes in 3 days.

Original character and monster are misleading, since you can create a enemy that isnt a monster and some monsters can be a character.

I like the monster idea best, though the boss idea is interesting as well.  Considering I've never done any spriting before, I doubt I could make a big-ol'-boss.

Dang...I hate being a "noob" in this!  I'd really like to be a part -- in the contest, or judging, either one -- but I don't know that I've got enough skills or knowledge to do much good at either! :-(

I added hero to the original character.
And well, monsters stay as monsters. hehehe.

As far as I know MS paint works, but for gif animations, I have no idea.

I use Paint most of the time, like 98%, the others i use programs to help me in rotation of sprites if i have problems.

I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro.

Ditto. This thing is king for sprites in my opinion.

For me, it's all I need.

I use Photoshop (anti-aliasing disabled) or Graphics Gale to cheat a bit with rotations, but then is back to MS Paint to manually fix the mess.

For animations, I use Graphics Gale to set up the frames' timings. But even animation itself is done in MS Paint. Also, the best version of MS Paint to work with pixel art is the WinXP one, in my opinion.

You can also make different poses in Photoshop with layers and then use Photoshop's timelime to animated and save a gif.

The next contest should be all about what later Castlevanias are famous for: have a whole host of food items. So many unique ones. We should have a contest for spriting your favorite food into an item icon.

I can't tell if I'm for serious or not.

I wish you were, because the idea is neat!

The sprites would be small enough that you could do many of them, while staying true to the style.

Would actually go with a Thanksgiving vibe...

Oh yeah. I didn't think of that. Guess it would work after all. OK I'm totally for serious then, haha.

I agree with the food theme for the December contest.

Yeah...the food idea is really neat.  It'd fit with Thanksgiving in Nov., and the big family meal many people have at Christmas too.

Alrighty, voting is over and the theme for the November sprite contest is:
To create an original Dracula end boss sprite!

Someone please start the proper contest thread.

DIdn't vote for that one, but sounds cool! Maybe hard for beginners, but we'll see :p

I didn't vote for that one either, but it got the most votes, so I think this November contest is for the more experienced spriters.
Beginners are better off waiting for the December contest on FOOD! (At least there's a good long time to think about which items one can make)  :)

You'd think this month's would be food for thanksgiving, and next month's would be a contest to see how you can incorporate Santa's hat on Dracula. Or make a boss sprite. Or both. Whatever you want.

X-D Santa-hat Dracula!

That reminds me of the dyslexic devil worshiper...he sold his soul to Santa. ;-)

EDIT: I said this elsewhere, but it maybe should be here (too)...I think designing an end-boss is a little rich for the blood of this beginner...but if you still need a judge, and if it isn't a problem that I haven't designed my own sprites before, I'd be happy to judge this one.  I'd like to think I could still be a fair judge...I've always loved the "pixelated" style, and I'm a quick learner...but if those of you with more experience think it would be a bad idea...well, I wouldn't know enough to argue with you! ;-P :-D

I think that they are preparing a thread for a new contest, so you will need to wait until they create it :)
