Title: Holiday Traditions?
Post by: theANdROId on December 19, 2014, 03:42:14 AM
Anyone got anything exciting planned for the Holiday season?  Any family traditions or whatever that you'll be participating in?

We're just spending time with family...nothing extravagant.  I don't know that we have any family traditions either. :-/ I mean, I did show the pics from the "somewhat tradition" my wife's family does -- burning/destroying a gingerbread house.  That's only every few years though.  Otherwise, I don't think either side of our family has any particular traditions.  A friend of mine and her family wear Christmas-y boxers on their heads all day.  I think she said they also go outside and run around the house X times (X = the last digit of the year).

It seems to have become a bit quite around here lately...anyone else got anything?

We like sugar cookies and gingerbread men. So, we make them and frost them.

Every year, my family and I do a magic Christmas Tree.

Christmas Eve happens to be my brother-in-law's birthday (bummer?), so the family gathers at my sister's house for a big birthday party, and at midnight we open a few presents for Christmas, then we resume partying.

Any unopened presents get unwrapped at home on Christmas day upon our return or when we wake up.

A personal tradition for me:  I do a massive room clean-up (out with the old, in with the new) on New Years' Eve, so that I welcome the New Year with a spotless, super-clean environment in my room.

However, this year there may be a party that day with some friends for which they'd really want me to go, so I might clean my room on the 30th instead. ;)

I'm glad other people acknowledge Die Hard as a Christmas film. Also I want to know what magic tree is too.

I celebrate Yule with some friends. Aside from that I carry on as if Halloween lasts until December 31st. :D

Like to break out my Atari 2600 when family visit for Christmas and play some Gunslinger and Combat, seems strangely appropriate and some of my family members enjoy the novelty.

(Think I'll bring out the NES this year and challenge a certain someone to a duckhunt contest to.)

I try to remember to watch this every year

(I also like to sneak in the phrase "There's no tradition like a new tradition!" whenever I can, though that's not just a Christmas thing.)

Other than that and the mundane putting the tree (with a gazillion lights) up stuff and picking someone to pass the presents there's not much we make sure to do every year. We do usually wind up having A Christmas Story, A Muppett Christmas Carol and A Christmas Carol (with Patrick Stewart) playing in the background sometime during the month.

I googled "magic Christmas tree", but what I found didn't look like that picture!

If I can find them on Netflix or TV, I like to watch some of the same movies mentioned.  "Elf" is probably my favorite, and my sister and I are kinda starting a tradition of watching that together every year...and you've gotta watch at least one version of the story of Scrooge!  The Muppet one is good, and I really like the version with Patrick Stewart!

You can chalk Lethal Weapon as a Christmas flick too.

My tradition, work as always.

Another tradition I started, buying myself a nice old school game for Christmas. Got delayed a bit this year, but I'll make it happen for myself.

An old-school game for every year? There's over a thousand old-school titles to buy, and if you factor one game per Christmas you'll be at this for well over a thousand years! Better get your hands on a potion of longevity man, you'll need it  :o

Indeed. Christopher Lee is a metal head. I was surprised as well.

No, one that is considered major or hard to get. Last year was X-Men Vs Street Fighter for the Saturn, a friend got it for me. This year I'll get myself King of Fighters Nests Saga for my PS2. The rest of the year I get the more common variety of games.

Yeah we watch Scrooged most years to, I just didn't want the list of movies to be too long lol.
