I know most of us dont believe that fan commmunity can do anything to bring back Castelvania to life quickly. Yet i believe we could always give a try to run a campaign to convince Konami to go back to a metroidvania philosophy and/or even developp Platform games in a rondo of blood way.
This of course, keeping the pre-mercurysteam universe.
Like things currently are, i feel Castlevania community has fallent in a sort of "nostalgy-bitterness-you cant face changing "state".
Meaning that on one hand some fans will blame marketting and Konami for ruining the ip, and on other hand, people will say fans cant evolve and are like cod players, unable to enjoy new things.(that was i was reproached with for not enjoying LOS2)
I played Lords of Shadows games and while i cant say they were bad games, i cannot say i really felt i was playing Castlevanias.
I am gonna quote an example of game that according to me, was a good way to bring new content without forgetting the roots of Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. The game was able to bring a fresh breeze and offered more challenging boss fights, had various environments but still looked like a metroidvania.
It also had a strong identity(imo) and a nice plot.So why not attempt something to convince konami? With the new year new hopes come i would say.
-
Why not? Because they released LoS2 last year (Feburary). The game only reached Japan in September I think. So give them time. No one can tell what they plan next for CV. Try again in 2016 if nothing happens this year.
-
Put your guns away and calm down. Give them time to come up with a new game. We don't need one every single year. In fact doing that usually causes the problems we have seen: low budget, cheap titles, handheld release, etc.
-
Sorry, having played LOS 1 and 2 gave me feeling i wasnt reallyplaying Castlevania, so for me its as if there had been no Castlevanias since Order of Ecclesia.
-
Anything involving the word "operation" and Castlevania is usually not a good thing...
-
Operation's (insert phrase) are so 2011.
Games take time to make and LOS2 is not even a year old yet (it's four months old in Japan). Maybe you wait till E3, Gamescom or TGS before you decide to panic about a series that's already hanging over a river by a narrow thread with it's feet incased in concrete.
Plus im sure Konami will devote all it's resources on Castlevania once MGSV and Silent Hills are out. So let 2017 be the year Castlevania get's it's big return.

I agree, for me the last Castlevania game was Order of Ecclesia, and it was excellent. I miss metroidvania an IGA. I miss Michiru Yamane and Ayami Kojima. I made peace with it and only hope that IGA will make a spiritual successor to his Castlevanias one day. I would rather play that than wait to see what crappy ideas Konami has to violate the name of Castlevania again.

Wow you guys are still talking about this? This was the topic being talked about like a year ago the last time i was here.
Castlevania is dead guys. The later handhelds sucked and these new games really suck. Here's good news though. It's not just those games. Almost ALL the new games suck.
-
To be fair, there really isn't much else to talk about at the moment.

Well aren't you a positive person.
I actually think there are a lot of fantastic video games being released to this day and I am extremely hyped for 2015. So much to look forward to! And I've been a gamer since 1990. (Yes, I'm old)
As for Castlevania, I may not care for the last three games but nobody knows what happens next. If it's dead, it's dead. But if not, the quality of the last few games say very little, if anything, about any eventual games in the future. It's not like Mercurysteam will make the next game anyway.
Oh, and saying the last portable games sucked? Mirror of Fate perhaps, but Ecclesia? Wow. That is... unheard of. It may have been a rehash of the other games in some ways (graphically especially) but "sucked"? As in a "very, very, VERY bad game"? Wow... just, wow.

I could be worse for Castlevania, it could have followed in the footsteps of Mega Man currently.

To be fair GoGo isn't a terrible game. It may not be the Megaman we want but it at least incorporates a lot of Megaman specific and themed content. It actually visually isn't bad either, given it does reuse PU models but still. It really is the Megaman version of an Endless Runner.
Besides, we all know it could be WAY worse. *cough* XOVER * cough*

wouldn't "Castlerise" be a better title for a "revival" movement?

You nailed it. Not positive at all. Not my job to be positive. If they start sending me a check for being motivational, i will be that guy. You have my word :D
I hope you can forgive my difference if opinion but as of this moment my favorite series of all time has been made into a joke and it upsets me lol.
I hope your right about castlevania making a comeback though. And maybe your right about Ecclesia... ;)
-
Well, I agree that Castlevania, right now, is a joke. And it's sad. But part of my new year's resolution was to become ridiculously optimistic at all times about everything ;D
I am ignoring Castlevania for a while, focusing entirely on upcoming stuff that excites me: Majora's Mask 3D, Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Code name STEAM, Yakuza 5, Salt & Sanctuary, Final Fantasy XV, Persona 5, Devil Survivor 2: Break Record, Bravely Second, Dragon Quest VII remake (if it ever comes here), Silent Hills and....dunno.... No Man's Sky.
But that is for another topic entirely.

Well at least there is Mighty Hero 9.

For me, personally, it feels like a Castlevania game hasn't come out in, like, 5000 years. The last one for me was Order of Ecclesia, too, which was... what... 2008? I've virtually lost all interest in the series beyond revisiting titles I like every so often. The MercurySteam games seem like something else entirely, so it's as if the series I loved has been dormant since forever ago. It's gotten to the point where I'm quite apathetic and often don't think about Castlevania beyond the stray thought here and there (like now). When I do think about it, it's just a fond nostalgic memory of the past, but for the present... I don't care. If Konami released a notice that they would stop making Castlevania games, I would think it was interesting and a touch sad for a moment, but then I'd quickly continue as if nothing happened. If that same thing happened... 8 years ago (goddamn that's a long time, I'm surprised I'm still young and in my 20s), I would be devastated. Konami would have to completely reignite my interest in the future of Castlevania, because as it is now, I really don't care.
*shrug* I don't know. Maybe the series just doesn't work that well for modern mainstream gaming sensibilities. You never want to say something like that, and you know it really isn't true, but the sad thing is that Castlevania has yet to really prove itself for today's market. It's just had such a long history of miss steps, which predate the MercurySteam games, really. Those were just the worst of the worst, but I'd say that, quality-wise, it started really going downhill in the DS/PS2 era, and people started getting tired of the same old, copy pasted, careless thing. Order of Ecclesia was just an unusual diamond in the rough. At least from my perspective.
But yeah, the truth is, it's a great concept that really hasn't been able to find really solid footing since about Aria of Sorrow, I'd say, which was years and years and years ago.
-
Yeah, people really need to cool their jets. All this talk of Castlevania being dead or being quiet for too long really doesn't make any sense. Like it has been said several times, LoS2 came out barely a year ago (four months ago in Japan). That's not that long. Everyone keeps clamoring for a good big budget CV, yet they think it's been too long already? Come on.
Give it some time. MercurySteam was in charge of the franchise for four years, so the KCET CV team either has been busy with other projects or has totally dissolved. Hell, if the former, they're probably still working on other projects. Like said already, The Phantom Pain and Silent Hills are Konami's top priorities right now, but I'm sure that once at least one of those is knocked out of the way, Konami will begin to focus on Castlevania again.
But LoS2 hasn't even had a 1-year anniversary since its release. It hasn't been too long.
EDIT: Also, I've been reading some people saying that they haven't felt Castlevania has been Castlevania in years. Despite your personal feelings on the series, the point still stands that four games have come out for the series in the last four years (HD and LoS1 in 2010, MoF in 2013, LoS2 in 2014).
As for another operation for Castlevania, I wouldn't be on board. It just really doesn't make sense to have one. Rainfall made perfect sense, since what it was asking for sounded reasonable. Bring three great Wii-exclusive RPGs to America. But the ones we've come up with so far for CV? Operation Akumajo? Nuh-uh.

This speaks for me too. LoS is not what I'd consider Castlevania despite the name, and me giving it a chance only to be let down harder then deadweight sucked into a Quasar. OoE was the last true Castlevania game we got and it's been well over six years and counting. Well I've waited this long so I suppose a few more years won't kill me.
