It's mid-January and February would soon be around the corner.
I would like to ask the members of this forum on their theme suggestions for February SPRITE contest.
There will be a poll when there are enough suggestions made as deemed by the community.
Also do not forget the usual things like pixel size, color restrictions, special rules (if there are any), etc.
Please refer to the regular contest rules for this.
-
Well depending on the turnout of January's contest, we may need to extend it depending on how many entries that we get...
-
How about a redo your old sprite thingy(in the same style as before)? Or redesign any castlevania character (playable or not) in the SOTN/DS style?
I dunno. Or maybe we could do a "design an enemy" contest.
-
I haven't thought this through at all...but as the Month of love and romance (or whatever) maybe that could play a part in the theme somehow.
I don't really care one way or the other about this idea...it's just the first thing that came to mind.
-
Succubus month.
;D
-
Howz about a team contest this time?
-
Design your own Succubus...
oooohhh I'm lovin' it.
-
I am all in favor of that, but should it have rules against bewbs? Touchy subject.

No pun intended...? ;D

Pun always intended.

Howz about taking any character or enemy sprite from any of the NES or handheld Castlevania games and making a HD Version of it?

That's right, that's why I brought it back up.
-
Interesting enough, but the series has brought back oldschool enemies plenty of times. There's only so many times you can resprite a CV1 zombie.
It's not a bad idea, but the current music contest suggests that straight-up conversions don't garner much attention.

I agree with Drac9. This forum seems to love original works.
I'm still with my Succubus vote on PG rating and not M (I know everyone wants the M rated one, but we have to keep it PG) especially if there are no limits on pixel size.
What say you guys?

Why not both? 8)

My lack of internet is killing meeeeee! I'm losing all the cool stuff...
Anyways, my suggestion is one I had since a long time: Candelabra designs.
Castlevania is shock-full of different candle and candelabra designs. So the contest would revolve around creating interesting candelabras which could do other stuff beyond merely dropping hearts (like the ones in Aria that can contain souls).

I'm also in favor of the Succubus theme, so you have my vote there unless something drastically better comes up (how many Succubi designs are in CV really, like four?). Although, while I understand the need for a PG rating, where's the fun in designing a Succubus if you're not allowed to show titties? Defeats the purpose!
Maybe a PG-13 rating to satisfy people on both fronts? Things can be shown provided it's not particularly lewd (for instance, a nude frontal shot or something as opposed to Redhead showing Alucard a good time), provided it's some degree of tasteful and is properly put in spoilers with a NSFW tag on it.
Though, even if it did have to be PG, I'd still be on board. Lament's Succubus might not have the blatant nudity Symphony's does, but she's still a good Succubus (possibly better since she's a bit less generic than Red is).
-
Wait...so what are we doing? lol
-
Has no one suggested creating a new female member of the Belmont clan?
With a quick back story included.
While I must commit my time to other things, I would get out my popcorn and watch that shit.
-
I'm going with Female belmont or new succubust.
-
Feb is all about the ladies. Makes sense.
-
So it's either a PG-13 Succubus or a female Belmont.
Which one would it be? Cast your vote on the poll.
-
Female Belmont all the way...
-
Female Belmont.
-
Succubus disguised as a female Belmont. :P
-
Female Belmont
-
Voted...I like the candelabra idea for a future contest though!
-
I'll keep the candelabras in mind.
Since the theme is being decided on the poll, may I ask what do you guys think should be the pixel size of the female sprite? (Please give me specific numbers, I don't want to count the sprite sheet for X game and so on)

Hmm... Maybe as tall as Julius for max height?
-
No Larger than 27 pixels (Width) X 43 pixels (Height) seems about right at 72 ppi.
-
I don't think we need to impose a size limit, just a style limit. If we say "make it fit SotN/DS titles style" then the size limits itself.
-
I was thinking the same thing. I personally think it would be interesting to make a rule of not using any pre existing cv styles. Perhaps borrowing a style from a different game, like a street fighter or something like that and using that as a rule would make this more of a fresh challenge.
I would love to see some more versatility in these contests.

You mean like this month's contest that everyone is ducking? ???
The borrowing idea is a good one...
-
Don't restrict, let people do their stuff. After all, if the judges prefer original stuff over re-used spirites, that may influence the participants.
Less restrictions = more people like likely participate. ;)

lol which one?

Reasonable restrictions make people think outside the box, or have to work outside their comfort zone. Participation numbers don't mean terribly much if nobody involved learns something new or improves what they have.
-
So what's the final verdict on the size? Free for all?
-
I'd say so. Visual style would likely define the proper size.
-
lol which one?
Keep it up D9.... :P
-
My idea would be to have the contest be designing a new female Belmont character for a dark stalkers cameo.
That's a very familiar style. It's different. And the sprite could be used in mame or something.
Take it or leave it. That's what I would like to watch.
-
Keep it up D9.... :P
Keep what up? Both the sprite and music contests have been sorely ignored.

I was being sarcastic dude, I agree with you completely.... ;D
-
The theme for next month's contest is to create a female Belmont sprite.
There are no restrictions to this but please state which visual style you're using.
All agree?
