With the release of MKX only 1 month away, I was curious what everyone's thoughts and opinions on the game may be so far. I just saw the snippet of the first chapter in Story Mode and am actually really impressed by the bar being raised yet again it seems.
I know we have a few MK fans here, I'm curious to know your thoughts - even if you're not a fan I would like to hear your thoughts. I for one am completely stoked and haven't been this stoked for a game since MK9.
-
I have no PS4... so I cannot play it.
And they're not coming out with a Wii-U version.

Already per-ordered it.
Initially I wasn't so stoke after the first gameplay trailer I saw after that awesome teaser with Wiz Khalifa. It looked like just a minor update from MK9, but now after seeing the deepness of the Challenge Towers, Online Modes, and character advancement (ala Tekken) I am pretty stoked.
I was waiting forever for MKX to show the next generation of fighters, descendents, son's, daughter's etc.so seeing that all take place now is pretty exciting.
Did you see the Jason Vorehee's Trailer on Friday the 13th?
And Spawn? Count me in!
-
I am fortunate to have xbone and ps4, though I rarely play them. But I will get the ps4 version fo sho! Sucks they delayed the 360 and ps3 versions though.
Yes I did! Jason has been a long time coming! I hope Spawn and Predator make it in. I am already goosepimply over it all.

I have a Xbox One. (My first Microsoft purchase since my original hacked Xbox.) I mostly play Killer Instinct and COD Zombies on it. I play my ps3 waaay more.
-
I bought my Xbox One for Killer Instinct and Dead Rising 3. But I've since let it fall to the wayside. My girlfriend bought me a PS4 for my birthday last year and a Wii U this year, and I bought the Evil Within for PS4 and was seriously disappointed with it's camera system. To me it broke my whole experience. But I'm glad I have a PS4 for MKX. I haven't pre-ordered it yet, I need to...can't say for sure why I haven't yet. Laziness I guess.
-
Yeah, I normally don't buy Microsoft products when it comes to video games, but the Xbox one is perfect for me because I don't have too much time to play actively involved in the industry and all so when I want to mess around with it, I can just pick it up and play casually.
-
So, it is official. Jason Voorhees, Tremor AND Predator are coming for MKX.
This makes my pants so tight.

There's gonna be a PC version at least, so if you got a gaming PC, why not.
I'm hyped for Predator, and am actually curious if they made Tremor cool. He certainly looks cool, sooooo.
-
I am surprised they actually listened to the fans about Tremor. But, hey, I'll take it!
-
Well, I saw the Ed Boon twitter post about that and it's not like this is Tremor's first appearance. He was in MK Special Forces and MK9 for PS Vita. And of course there was that 15,000
petition.
What I am really surprised about is how the Devs handled the Kollective where fans can upload fan artwork about MKX.
If you have been watching the official telecast of MKX they actual put some of that fan-art in game where you could view it! What is even more amazing is that they took the best of the art and made actual character skins from it that you can play with !
Check out Kold War Scorpion from fear-sAs a Russian Artist who I was a huge fan of from You Tube. I remember tweeting Ed boon his Tremor speed draw and then they end actually contacting him to create a custom Scorpion Skin!

I think it's really awesome how Netherrealm has involved the community for this game.
Even though it isn't Tremor's first appearance, it's his first playable experience in his own boots instead of just using other's movesets, so that's pretty exciting.
I'm very pleased with how NRS has been developing MKX, lots of fan service. It has been great.
24 more days I believe it is...

If Tanya's been brought back then why not Jade? both are seriously bitter rivals to eachother.
-
I personally could do without Tanya. But I agree, why not both?
I would have rather seen Sareena than Tanya.
-

Kitana has a "Jade" variation and staff moves.

Isn't that a cheap way of doing it? Tanya isn't as big a deal as Jade yet she's fully in there.
-
I have considered that it may be cheap. I am holding my reservations until I play the game because it may make sense then.
But it seems there are lots of characters people are upset did not (or has not yet) made it in.
I for one am ok with Jade not being in, but it would have been nice. But I definitely do not give two shits about Tanya.
-

But if you noticed, this go around Netherrealm combined alot of classic MK characters into new ones. i.e. Cassie Cage. I actually don't want them to bring back classic characters too often just to have them in EVERY iteration of MK.
Scorpion and Subzero don't have to be in ever MK. (I know, blasphemy.) Instead of having Sub-Zero again they could have resurrected Frost, etc. And Scorpion has Takeda now. They could have left Scorpion out too this time around.
Force players to play as the new character so they learn that hey these guys are cool too. That way when they do return it's really a big deal. I don't want MK to go the way of SF2, where there is literally no more character development. (The closest we had was SF3.)
The character I really want most back in MKX is 4 legged Motoro!
-

They tried this before with the PS2-era of games (Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon). People literally did not give two shits about the new characters they introduced in all three games, with the exception of Kenshi (hence why he still gets used).
Bamco also tried this with SoulCalibur V, and well... we all know how that turned out.
-
It is simply not MK without Scorpion, remember MK3 didn't have him, and they hurriedly put him into the UMK 3 revision to satisfy folks like myself.
As you can tell now, I am a fan of Scorpion since the original game, I used to cheese my friends on the Genesis version of MK1 because he only had 2 moves really (spear and teleport).
-
Yeah, Scorpion & Sub-Zero are pretty much the Ryu & Ken of MK.
Speaking of Scorpion, the comics show that he has regained his humanity. What do you guys think of that?
-
I haven't read the comics yet, but I heard he did regain his humanity, that he learned to "tame the demon inside" or something like that?
I think it's a welcome change on paper. I am interested to see how that plays into the story. But I'm all for changing up some things, and the idea is a welcome change to me.
Yeah, MK without Scorpion/Sub-Zero is bold, daring and probably pretty stupid in a business sense. MK3 didn't have Scorpion (supposedly due to legal issues with Daniel Pesina, and so they wanted to stick it to him) and people complained and then we got UMK3.
If they ever released another MK without one or the other, the fanbase would be totally up in arms. I for one would be very disappointed. I say just mix up their look and we'll be good to go.
But then again, with so much I've read how people are like "where is so and so, I don't care if so and so isn't in it", the fanbase is very particular about their favorite characters. NRS knows this and I like that they're mixing things up with MKX and finally bringing in new characters. Though, I will be honest, I really question some decisions, like including Johnny Cage, Sonya AND Cassie Cage. I was ok with Cassie being a mix of the two, but having all three seems really weird to me. I hope they can differentiate the characters enough to where it doesn't feel like copycats.
-
Not gonna lie, that whip user character is really selling the game for me
-
This game looks pretty hype so far. MK9 was really fun and a good game, it's just too bad they over patched it. But i'm liking the looks of what they've released so far. MK's come a long way in the last few iterations.
BTW, your game is also looking hype Pisces! Good luck with it!
-
The more I see on MKX the more hype I get.
Thanks Docta! Happy birthday btw!

Not entirely true.
Kenshi, Tanya, Frost, Noob-Smoke, Reiko, Fujin etc. There were tons of new characters that were extremely cool that didn't get their fare share of game time in some of the future titles. But I agree that it did get overinflated at one point.
Comparing SoulCalibur V..that's a whole nother train wreak.

I do remember that. If Scorpion's wasn't Ed Boon's favorite MK character we wouldn't even have this conversation. I personally think that Sub Zero doesn't get nearly enough love as Scorpion does but, Cyber Sub-Zero in MK9 was super awesome!

Erron Black is very awesome! Looking forward to playing with him.
I totally agree with including all members of the Cage family in the game, to also include Jax, Kenshi, etc. Total overkill, just to please the die-hard fans. They could have spent the memory on mastering a 4 Legged Motaro hell even Kintaro!
On a side note been watching the live-streams?

Tanya, Reiko and Fujin actually came from MK4 before the ps2 era. The idea of Noob-Smoke as a tagteam came from Deception but they have been around aince MK2.
I was hoping Havik would make a comeback. The new characters look really cool and all, especially Takeda and Erron Black, but I wish MK would get away from generic asian names. Why call Hanzo Hasashi Scorpion but call Takeda, just Takeda. I love MK but always found the name thing really weird from MK4 forward.
Something that I just recently realized though is the first 3 main villains names started with SH. Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn and Shinnok. And Sektor rearranged spells Rokets. Surely I am not the first to see this though.
Yeah, the streams have been getting better and better as they really try to show it off. Only 2 more weeks for streams then its game time!

Ok, I am ready to play now! ;D

I checked out the first 30 minutes that IGN had posted. Man, the extra quality on a tv made all the difference. Story mode looks very in depth and cinematic.

MK9 had a really good story mode, here's hoping this one would be just as good if not better.
-
Based on the extended video, its presentation puts MK9 to shame, and I loved its story mode. How the writing and story itself will be remains to be seen. But it looks like they are pulling no punches.
-
From what bits and pieces I've seen in trailers, the story looks interesting. Though I'm not entirely sure about how they're going to deal with old characters. I just hope they don't end up being in the background for too long.
-
It will be interesting to see how that plays out. From what I have seen, they have had more screen time than Motaro did in mk9.

Yeah, like piscesdreams said, most of the characters you mentioned were pre-PS2 era. Kenshi and Frost were the only PS2-era characters, and I've never even seen anyone talk about Frost. Nothing good and nothing bad about her. Kenshi gets a lot of love, to the point where they've kept him as a character this long.
And like said earlier, I would definitely love for Havik to come back as a character. In his alternate Deception costume, of course. That one looked badass. Another PS2-era character I really enjoyed was Taven. Despite his somewhat generic look, I loved the fact that he talked shit and could back it up without any problems. The only problem with introducing Taven is that Daegon would have to be included and I don't like Daegon. At all.
-
Btw, MKX mobile is out now. :)
-
i want to see more Darius and Shujinko. Seems like they werent in it for the long haul tho.

Saw Nightwolf and Kabal...
Oh yeah, EPIC:
