Title: clear memory/data in Aria of Sorrow?
Post by: hattasken on March 29, 2008, 08:46:22 PM
Does anyone know how to clear the memory in Aria of Sorrow? I just purchased a used copy and everything is unlocked.. I'd rather unlock it all myself. The manual doesn't say how, but I got the impression it's suppused to be in all GBA games.
The manual for circle of the moon clearly states what buttons to press and when, but not in this game. Annoying.
So, anyone knows how to do it?

well, if Circle of the Moon has one, try the same, if you haven't already

Unless you're talking about the sound test and boss rush. I don't know how to reset that.

The combination for Circle of the Moon doesn't work.. I've tried several other combos that works in other konami games but I havn't found one that works.
And yes, I want to clear all unlocked features, not just saved games.

I'm pretty sure when you delete the last save file on the game, the game will ask you if you want to reset the unlocked stuff and so on.

When I was little and would accidentally pull a cartridge out of my NES or SNES while it was still turned on it would sometimes erase everything. You could try that....?

It'd be more possible to cause that if you pull it out during the saving. The savefile would get corrupted and the game would probably reformat it.

Or damage it beyond repair, so don't do it. At least without extensive testing on emulators and stuff. :P

Yeah, I've considered doing this but I don't want to screw things up. Should be OK really but.. nah.
I've emailed konami for an answer how to do this, but I don't think they'll actually reply with anything useful.
I guess it's no harm playing the game as it is :)
Thanks anyway!

Actually, no doubt just like hattasken here, that I'm also simply wondering about this whole clear memory thing, but that not just for AoS, but that also for HoD, and at least a few other non-Castlevania games also for the GBA, huh friends :)?  >Danny<

Well there is a way...But that requires hooking you cartridge up to your pc wich requires a special cable and honestly I don't think it's worth buying it just to clear a saved game  ::)

Eureka!

Alls I had to do was check the AoS manual.

Pg 9

NOTE: You can reset the game software by pressing and holding down A Button + B button + START + SELECT simultaneously.

On a side note:

Mario Kart Advance's manual states:

To erase all of your saved data, hold the L Button, R button, B button and START when you turn the power ON, then choose "Yes" when the confirmation message appears.

Why can't this sort of thing be hardcoded into the cartridge format itself? That way there'd be a standardized button combo to erase any game.

UPDATE: Ok.. so the AoS one I posted above was just to simply reset the game itself (soft reset). I THOUGHT that button combo looked familiar.

So you might just try what Mario Kart Advance says. Lemme know if it worked.

What about on the GBA, not the DS? Since you have to pick between either the GBA slot or the DS slot first, it's possible the main DS menu screws this procedure up.

Have you tried on an actual Gaemboy Advance? I can't test this, because I sold mine awhile back.

Ok... it seems different developers use different cache-clearing button-combos; just like with X360 games.

Let's try another.

Advance Wars says to:

Press L button + SELECT + RIGHT on the D-PAD immediately after turning the Gameboy Advance on.

A confirmation message should appear in this case too.

I also saw people doing this successfully with DS, just that it might take a couple tries to get the timing right when exiting the main menu.

So, as far as I can tell, that that one isn't going to work at all either :(.

Well, both of these games were made by Nintendo. It's very possible that they did not stress or make aware the importance of a data clear feature to their third parties.

Like how "Oblivion" on the 360 had a button-combo to clear data, but "Two Worlds" on the same system does not feature it at the moment, last I checked. I know "Oblivion" isn't made by Microsoft, but I think you catch my drift.

It's possible AOS just doesn't support this feature. But I'm still gonna keep an eye out to see if anyone found anything.

You could also try holding single buttons down as you start the game. Or just try random buttom combos as you boot up.

How about opening the game pack and removing the battery for awhile?

Well then, why don't we just mutilate it and get a new battery pack??
