Anyone else play the Wii U Global Testfire demo of Splatoon that went on over the last few days? Nintendo has a winner. The game is A LOT better than I expected. My interest level after actually going hands-on has jumped from about a 50% to a 90%, at least. It probably moves right up to the top tier of Wii U games. It controls really well (could be a template for 3rd-person shooters on Wii U), has a good amount of depth, has smart level design, and is just plain fun. It plays like the Metroid Blast Gunship levels of Nintendo Land mixed with on-foot paintball. Videos do not do the frantic competition and potential strategies of each player justice. I experienced no slowdown that I can recall, and only a few short server connection issues on the last day of the test demo.

Didn't get a chance to but I am interested in this game. My worry, though, is that it looks like capture the flag type gaming mixed with de Blob or something. Does the game have any kind of deathmatch? I'm hoping that this is like today's four player split-screen extravaganza like GoldenEye was on the N64 but don't exactly know what to expect.

It plays like a timed deathmatch where everything is a potential score. There is no specific "flag" since you're trying to ink a territory, and that can be inked over by your opponent, so the score is always in flux. Plus, you can play defense, go stealth action under the ink, or outright go on the assault, taking out your rivals at any time. There is a lot of variety in how to play this from what I played. I was VERY impressed. I did not expect it to be so fun and different. It sort of felt like Mario Sunshine meets a shooting game.
Also, about that 3D platforming we've been talking about elsewhere, you've got to check out this CRAZY video of A Hat in Time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTEaoN-3G_s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTEaoN-3G_s)

I've been on the fence for a while about whether or not I should get a WiiU and I feel this game tipping me over to buy it.
