Title: What is this doing here?

I'd like to see what you guys think of this:

Why the heck is "Castlevania" written in the map of Akumajo Densetsu? Maybe they thought it could work as a reference to the english name given to the game or something? Or maybe, this was the japanese team's idea all along  :o ?

Castlevania is the name of Dracula's castle in most games.

I actually thought it just started out as a pun on the name Transylvania and was initially describing the area.

But this is not true for the japanese versions. The castle, when referred to directly, is always "Demon Castle." That's why I don't get this map.

perhaps Castlevania mean demons castle too? they say something like fuck it, its the same.

Maybe the devs wanted to keep some of the Romanian heritage within it's lore. I could be wrong though.

I guess it just means that by the time CV3 was made the Japanese team had already taken note of the US name.
I don't think there's much else to it really.
