Title: Iga's Super Mario Maker Level
Post by: Reinhart77 on September 09, 2015, 09:27:12 PM
Please feel free to move this to the Hardcore Gaming thread if it's more appropriate.  It's Iga's take at making a Super Mario level, so everyone's going to be thinking "Castlevania" even though it's a mario game.

Holy S**T! If that's legit then I can fulfill a dream I had since elementary school: Building a badass Koopa Doomship. I've always felt that Super Mario world was lacking those wondrous monsters of death. Sure there is one doomship in SMW but it's underwater and is rather lack luster--in both design and look.

Iga's first time playing the game and finished the stage in 45 minutes. Cool!

You didn't know about SMM until now?  It's coming out... tomorrow, I think.

I have to wonder how close Super Mario Maker is to level editors that Iga got to play with when developing Castlevania or Bloodstained.

Uhm... Are you guys un-aware of Super Mario Bros. X? It's a fully customizable Mario maker - and it's much better then what nintendo has.

I like how IGA is receiving more attention from the press this year, than maybe all his time with Konami.

I thought it was cancelled years ago. Thanks to you now I know that other guys continued the project.
Even so while it is a nice game, Super Mario X doesn't tops Mario Maker in level design options IMO. If you watch some video previews or even play the game you will notice some mechanics that have been made specifically for this game and adds to creativity. Some even made me chuckle.

I'll respectfully disagree.

Super Mario Bros X not only allows for much more flexibility on the level design, but it also allows one to add new things of his own into it.

But even then, SMBX doesn't top Lunar Magic.

People are calling the things that Mario Maker does "amazing", when Lunar Magic has been doing things even more impressive for years now.

(I watched the Completionist making a level on Nintendo's channel, and while playing with Mario Maker he said "it did things that a fan could never do before", and this hurt me a little inside.)

Sure, Mario Maker is above these softwares because it's not bound to limitations such as Lunar Magic's sprites-per-screen, or SMBX's required programming knowledge. It's mainstream and accessible. But at the end of the day, Mario Maker doesn't even allow you to use slopes. Hell, it doesn't even allow you to use all of the Super Mario World's backgrounds (something that should be DEAD SIMPLE to implement on the engine), or doesn't allow you to add other boss battles beyond Bowser and Bowser jr. It doesn't give you access to all enemies and objects present in the original games. It doesn't even allow you to use water outside a water level, holy crap!

Mario Maker is a LOT of fun, but at the end of the day I still find it incredibly limited, and it pales in comparison to SMBX and Lunar Magic.

But I kinda wish we got an Igavania-Maker... This would be THE shit. I know I'd lose months making levels in it.

I second this!
Hahaha, can someone forward this statement to IGA?

They should add this on the rogue-like mode lol
Also people can suggest ideas and features in the Bloodstained forums.

I'll third it!

The best I've seen isn't even really a stage.  It's the first video available at this link:
