Title: Castlevania on Halloween
Post by: GuyStarwind on October 05, 2015, 04:04:27 PM
Anyone doing anything Castlevania related for this month since it's Halloween month? I know we had a live play of some of the games and it was a bunch of fun. I'm probably going to try to play some Classicvania.

I don't have anything planned, but you never know! I may wind up playing through one of them like I did last year.

Since I got my SNES set up with my new entertainment center, I'll probably blast through SCV4 or maybe CV Dracula X. Either that or torture myself some more playing Adventure on Super Gameboy. Then again I don't want to scare away all those trick or treater's with my rage-filled cussing, lol.

My "video entertainment time" is all filled up with horror movies the month of October, but I hope Konami releases more Castlevania games on the Wii U Virtual Console this month.

Just realized I hadn't thought of a CV game for this month yet. Wish I could check out the FDS version of CVII, but I don't really have (working) hardware for that.  :-[

There's some games I've been meaning to get started on, though. Penumbra, Amnesia, Outlast, and a few others.

I'm not sure if anyone around here plays Minecraft, but if so there will be a new updated release of the classic Criswelvania adventure map coming out in the next couple weeks, just in time for a spooky Minecraft adventure on Halloween. I'll post about it on the Forums once it's finally ready and available for download.

I just finished playing Rondo which I deliberately saved for the Halloween season. I don't know what I'll play when it's actually Halloween, though. I already played SCIV on Halloween last year...

Amnesia

This is what should be played above all else anyway. Holy damn, it's good.

I usually play a bit of Luigi's Mansion (1 and 2) this time of year, so that's probably what I'll be doing. I love those games. But I might squeeze in some SuperCV4 or LoI.

Other than that, Halloween for me is horror movies and parties!

I always play at least one Castlevania in October.  Just went through Dawn of Sorrow.

I'm also trying to put together a vampire hunter costume, with a little success.

Went to a party this last weekend.

But I'm not sure what I'm doing on Halloween proper, yet.

That's how ya do it! Awesome costume man!

Did you scare any vampires out of the party?

I'm still playing my first run of Lords of Shadow 2, so I might be doing that on Halloween.  Just beat the second acolyte after finding all the hidden items available before then.

Last Halloween, a bunch of Game Boy Castlevania games came out on Wii U.  I was expecting/hoping that maybe we'd get a similar batch of DS Castlevania games this Halloween, though I haven't heard anything about it.  Oh well.

Luigi's Mansion is a game I like to revisit around US Thanksgiving, since that's when it came out here. Can't even count the number of times I've played it.

Haven't given Dark Moon a second playthrough, might do that soon. It's a good game, I'm just not terribly big on the stage-select aspect of it, and unlike in the first game, hunting rooms for money when revisiting areas isn't terribly fun, so I'd have to ignore my "GET ALL THE MONEY" instinct during a replay.

Last October I played through Belmont's Revenge, Chronicles (original and arranged version) Legends, CV64 (both characters) and I think the original Castlevania. Taking it easy this year. I want to replay Legacy of Darkness and/or C64 but can't find my cartridges. Might just replay Lament of Innocence instead. Not really feeling the mood for much spooky games this year though, I've played more Red Alert 1 than anything else the last few weeks.

I've been thinking of doing another live stream Castlevania Marathon Special. Last year it was Kid Dracula, SotN, and Chronicles (PSX). Any suggestions for this year? I got the SNES capture working again (SCVIV??).

Haunted Castle, Vampire Killer, and Judgment. :3

Ha, Ha, puke.

HC and VK probably aren't bad games but I don't think I have access to either. I may have Haunted Castle on some collection somewhere, but honestly? That's never going to get beaten. And Judgement? Eh. No thanks honestly.

And yes, I have played CotM recently on stream.

I haven't done Aria though, and everyone keeps asking about it.

Maybe SCVIV, Aria, and another? I don't have access to any of the NES trilogy off hand other than Simon's Quest, and screw that. I don't have any Sega systems (sans DC but that doesn't help here). Maybe Dracula X Chronicles?

Could try and squeeze in Harmony of Dissonance maybe as well.

I don't have equipment to stream the DS games. :(

I would be down if you did another CV stream. I thought the one you did last year (or whenever it was) was a lot of fun.

You can play "Vampire Killer" through the Wii-U's vWii's MSX emulator.  It's actually a very friendly emulator.
Not sure if you had an MSX2 to play that game 'legit', but if you did, it would be cool.  It would be cool for Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (if it wasn't included in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection).

Is it possible to stream Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel? It's a kickass Gameboy Color game.

Sorry. This is a real hardware, no-emu, stream. I have no intention of breaking the law.

Didn't Vampire Killer release on PC or something though? Otherwise I'd need to get a real MSX, but honestly, for the money needed I don't have any desire at the moment.

I can do any Gameboy title as long as I can find it. I have both the Super Gameboy and Gameboy Player, so I will be able to play any GB,. GBC, and GBA game. I have a GB night coming up this Saturday in fact!

Annual run through Castlevania: Symphony of the Night starts tonight for me, followed by the first Lords of Shadow. I have the cartridges for Aria, Circle, and Harmony, too. Who knows?

If you ever actually wanted to do Haunted Castle, there's that Japanese PS2 release of it. The emulation's pretty wonky on it, however.

I think you missed the part where I have a working NES, SNES, etc...

Ahh. That is what I must have been remembering, it being included in a collection on PS2 but I guess it's only Japanese. I DO have the equipment to play imports, just would need the game. There is no way in hell I would be able to beat it though.

Nope. Didn't miss it. It was more 'n less a suggestion in case you didn't have a console you could screen online play with.
