So apparently Konami partnered up with a Chinese mobile game developer to make a Contra game for the Chinese market. Supposedly because iOS/Android also became really popular over there as well.

Seems like it's going to be a traditional 2D game, but of course with lots and lots of microtransactions. I think the change is pretty high they might to do the same with Castlevania.
At least it would be something.

Well, between that and the Pachislut games... :-\

I don't care about micro transactions as long as I never put more than $30 or $60 into a game. That's what we pay on average anyways right?
No big deal

That is news.... but isn't Konami supposed to develop their mobile games in-house? Does this mean they sacked even more people?

I really dislike micropayment games, regardless of the platform. Especially on mobile though.
-
I hope not. OOS looked like horsepiss and I heard it played badly.

Apparently they recenly closed down the LA branch of Kojima productions. Also, a lot of their old staff simply get assigned to new jobs. Though I'm sure they still probably have a bunch of people working on mobile games for the Japanese market.
If they would make a new Castlevania game for mobile phones, they would probably better off making it like the pre-SotN games. A metroidvania would probably just come as pathetic, especially when compared to Bloodstained, and I doubt they would be able to make it on par with the previous ones. Not that I think a classic-style game would necessarily be that great on mobile, but I wonder how it would compare. Then again, maybe this Contra game is just going to be a quick cash grab, and Konami hasn't really proved themselves to be quality developer lately, so it's difficult to tell.

Maybe Konami's going to approach their next mobile Contra (and to an extension, mobile Castlevania) similarly to the previously released Contra Evolution.

they supposedely sacked the seventh sheet-slicing sitter since the sixth sheet-slicing sitter was sick

I don't mind as long as they don't make some spinoff puzzle game like Encore of the Night. I also think a classicvania would work better for a mobile game, but at the same time every mobile game needs longevity with simple pick up and play mechanics. Something simple with RPG elements sounds OK. There was that mobile game Castle of Shadows, a CV rip off, which is really good.
I'd appreciate if they made a downloadable title for PC and Consol, but with Bloodstained on everyone's mind I think they'd need to do something to differentiate themselves, like a classicvania. How about an open world game like Simons Quest, which won't be too ambitious to make today.

I bought it when it came out, and I loved that game so much. It's far, FAR from the top of the pile, it's actually pretty well crafted and does everything a Castlevania should, and without major glitches or issues.
Most phones of the day still couldn't run it at more than 20-25 FPS though, even though it had the graphical oomph of Simon's Quest.
