A really cool looking clone of metroidvanias that's similar to SotN.

Interesting...
-
LOL! 90,000$ stretch goal for bad voice acting! That's awesome ;D
-
I always notice the similar struggles for game designers:
1 man army
Has to teach themselves to program
Needs a great artist
Needs a Team to accomplish their goal
The funny part is everyone wants to do their own thing and only a crazy small percentage of people actually can get a team together and make a project into reality unless you do it all yourself.
-
Looks JUST like SOTN!
-
It looks quite good.
The before's remind me a bit of Hyperlight Drifter with a perspective shift to side scrolling.
-
Looks pretty damn awesome!! Seems like from the look of the movement, it comes close to SOTN control, but its impossible to be certain
-
It looks good but I'm not so sure if it can reach the initial goal.
-
It would probably help if they disclosed how the funds are appropriated. The majority of recent Kickstarter successes that I have seen have been doing this.
-
This game looks great, but sadly I doubt it will meet its goals, it needs to find a way to get is name out in the web in a big way, it needs more advertising around the web definitely because this game deserves to be funded.
-
Now the thing costs 75k...well.....it still much :V
-
Yeah, pretty pricey. Still love what he did so far. Maybe put it up on greenlight?(not super familiar with how greenlight works, could be wrong)
On a little side note, I feel like a lot of indie games are a bit over ambitious, leading to their downfall. Don't get me wrong, its fantastic to have high goals, especially if you reach them, but this guy is asking for quite a pretty penny. Cave story is an example of it being done wonderfully, but we see so many fan games come and go, and so many indie games having some issues, or some are plain shit and the devs wanna censor reviewers like Day 1(but that's another topic)
-
It definitely looks interesting, but it's still pretty rough. Obviously it should look rough, since it's in the earliest stages yet, but I'm hesitant to back something like this with no real indication it will be fully fleshed out and polished by the end. It reminds me of Soul of Darkness so far - vaguely reminiscient of SotN, but so, so far from it in reality. I'd hate to fork over more than the $5 I paid for Soul of Darkness if that's all I'll be getting in the end.
Sorry, Kickstarter campaign. I'll gladly pay for the game if it makes it to a full release and looks worth buying then, but this isn't enough for me to pre-pay.

My thoughts exactly, the graphical style is not reminding me of SOTN but rather of something like Soul of Darkness for the DSi.
I don't dislike how the game appears but there's so many Metroidvania's on KS it's looking like more of the same.

Yep, I'm more than happy with Bloodstained at this point.

That's my thoughts exactly. Unfortunately, it feels the indie community is over saturating the metroidvania style.
I feel for the guy investing his own money into this game and not getting a return yet, and it doesn't look like he will. Maybe due to the goal being so high for an indie game. People are skeptical of Kickstarters these days and his wording of the game and how it came to be doesn't give me a lot of faith in it. Plus, I have to see how money is attributed before I will consider donating.

Definutely lot of metroidvania being made lately. Plus games like Axiom Vurge and Bloodstained make newcomers seem irrelevant. Maybe instead of a metroidvania game, he should use the engine and all he developed to make a simpler game, maybe smaller action adventure or straight up linear gameplay.

I know a good amount of Kickstarting Games that is less Pricey and worthier than this,
But what bugs me isn't the price... Its the overall quality, since the sprites to the music. I really love when an indie MetroidVania comes apart, but its a first time that an game not impress me. (who knows if it gets the amount, the creator can make a good game?)

Nothing impressive, sure, but looks good enough for a $5 or less game. And hey, assuming he's being truthful about his story, I'd say he did really good. I like the style personally, just think the goal is WAY too high.
He should've either-
-Finished the game and sold it
-Finished the game and went the Cave Story route, free
-Made a smaller kickstarter
-Or put it up on greenlight instead, hopefully getting a good crowd

Lecarde Chronicles 2 is all original assets and is free you guys.
Just sayin.

That was...awesome! I practically couldn't take my eyes away! And it was made even better by my wife looking back and forth between me and the video, clearly thinking, "Is this for real?!" X-D
-
Yeah, I really liked that little ad, though as I said elsewhere, with so little money made and so little time to go, I fear for the project's future...;_;

Hey everybody!
I wanted to stop by and say "Hi" and thanks for mentioning my game, Dark Nemesis. The Kickstarter isn't looking too hot right now but you could still stop by and support it - you never know!
Have you guys tried the preAlpha demo yet? You can download that here: http://www.indiedb.com/games/darkflame/downloads/dark-flame-prealpha-demo-17nov15 (http://www.indiedb.com/games/darkflame/downloads/dark-flame-prealpha-demo-17nov15)
It's a nice hybrid between Castlevania and Dark Souls. I've always wanted to play a game like that so I took the time to make one. Hopefully I'll get the funding to actually complete this project!
I saw some questions/concerns... $75K is the price it would cost for me to pay for the assets required for the full game. Yeah that might seem like a lot but.. there's a LOT of art that gets put in games like these! I calculated everything out and this would be the minimum amount for me to complete the game... the last thing I would want is to have a successful Kickstarter and not have the funding to finish (like some projects)...
I've also already been greenlit (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=476541991 (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=476541991)) so my first step would be to drop this on Steam once it's completed.
The demo does have gamepad support so I'd suggest giving it a shot! I've flushed out most (if not all - I can't find any now) of the bugs. The biggest complaint I've had was that it was 'too hard' but.. it's got that 'Dark Souls' touch to it.. so it's supposed to be hard! There's also a lot of great storyline that will be in the final game but isn't even touched in the demo (so keep that in mind too)!
I just want to make an incredibly fun game for everyone to play!

Well the game does look pretty darn amazing, as a huge metroidvania fan I wish the best for this and can't wait to try it out one day.
Hopefully it succeeds.
-
Agreed. I'll definitely own it if the Kickstarter succeeds. And if it doesn't, I'll be hoping you find some other way to complete it.

I'm following your project, and seeing some of the newest videos i've noticed that you're giving a SOTN-ish feeling to your game, what is really great. I personally hopes that your game will be sucessfully crowdfunded.
Also, Be welcome to the forums!

This looks super promising but I worry about the goal being met.
I wish you all the luck on getting this made though, the more the merrier :)
-
Doesn't look like the project is gonna make it. It still looks great though...is there any reason to fund it at this point? It won't make the goal, so wouldn't my pledge just get kicked back to me at the end?

You're right. Everybody who did pledge just wasn't charged.
I'm still looking into other ways to get this game funded. I'm still working on it but I still need funding for the assets. The best thing anybody can do is still talk about it and share it with your friends. I'm currently working on a mac port and some more features in the game for my next demo release.

Hey everybody!
I've still been working on this game and wanted to let you know that there's a brand new demo that I made. I recreated the environment and added many new features. If you want to check it out, you can download it here: http://www.indiedb.com/games/darkflame/downloads/dark-flame-final-prealpha-release (http://www.indiedb.com/games/darkflame/downloads/dark-flame-final-prealpha-release)

Hey, sorry I'm just now replying to this:
I have a small team of developers that are willing to work for $$ - so I'm doing what I can to figure out how to fund this project!
I'm doing all the programming myself - as well as some small portions of art.
-
Glad to see you're still getting things worked out! :-) Good luck to you!
