Title: Fact: The VK got much MUCH longer

In the NES days, the VK was the standard length.

In the 16-bit era, to make up for having a much larger screen size, the whip was extended to make up for larger screen space

In the 32-bit Era, the whip was extended slightly ONLY because SoTN used Richter's Technique (>>+Whip) as default (notice the white flashing)

BUT, in the Chronicles Remake, the VK was restored to scale with the original 8-bit Length, though it felt short, it was truly the originally intended size of the whip.

Then we get the Advanced Era, Nathan Holds the Third longest whip while Juste retains the 32-bit SotN ruleset

Then we have the DS era, where length gets exaggerated a bit, Jon holds the Second longest whip, Though not shown, DS Richter holds a whip damn near twice the length of original intention, holding the longest whip.

Then We have the 3D games....
While Leon and Trevor's whips are long, but that compensates for depth and 3D whipping useually is at arcs.
LoS throws the length out of the window and usually has 3x the length of PoR nebula, and MoF has it rediculously long at clinging segments.


Why is the VK getting so long?

Because the VK rages on.

The NES images don't even show the VK it's just the leather whip. Even more-so with CV II's Simon. The VK would be twice as long as the Leather whip. Also Chronicles' Simon's VK isn't even full powered up either. And it is one of the longest VKs in CV history.

But let's not forget Trevor's VK which I think is the longest I see it in any game. Richter also uses it in PoR. Artistic liberties implied I gave it a morning star tip like the one from SotN

I think the whip in chronicles/x68000 is really nice

dunno if its the longest but its pretty long and fast.  if you notice, the hitboxes on it are actually a bit longer than the sprite for the whip itself, so you can still hit things a couple inches away from it.  I like to think of it as energy or force given off from the whip.   :P

I seriously take advantage of this as much as possible whenever I play Chronicles  ;)

Playing HoD Juste's whip is so broken, you can backdash into certain enemies and still whip them.

Richter had a hint of this "over the head" whip coverage in ROB and X/ VK but not covering his back.

Just noticed the 16-bit ones say the size compensates for the screen size, but actually those games all use the same screen resolution.

This helps make Juste the most badass of the Belmonts, given that you can easily imagine this manifesting in-story as him being so deft with the whip that he can just strike anything out of the air in range.

Other characters catch arrows. Juste WHIPS THEM OUT OF THE AIR WITH PRECISE STRIKES.

Don't know if visually he is the most badass, but the man can superjump, kick through fucking solid bricks and mortar with no repercussion, fly kick and dash forward faster than you can say "Vampire Killer". After a week or so of playing HoD (and making it very hard on myself) I feel in complete control of Juste running-a-fucking-muck in that Castle :)

I have a question about christophers whip in comparison with johns whip. Maybe I'm crazy but I think Christophers whip is longer compared to Johns or maybe the feeling of the whip is better with Christopher. The reason is due to John and for the first time made me think about whip length and I find it to be the shortest whip next to Juste and Aos Julius also, John is perhaps the worst whip user in the series now that I think about it.

If you are referring to Christopher from Adventure rebirth then yes. His whip is longer then John Morris' whip. By three pixels to be exact. I checked it out before replying.
