Title: Castlevaina Monopoly
Post by: GuyStarwind on November 27, 2015, 08:25:52 PM
My brother gave me a build your own Monopoly and I was thinking of doing a Castlevaina version of the game. You can change the tokens, chance, community chest, and the properties. If I were to go Castlevania what locations should I do or what should the cards have on them?

Cool!
Get all the parts of the castle from different games as locations. The Throne Room should be Boardwalk.

I am oddly opposed to this idea and yet I have not the words to accurately explain why.

Just feels wrong, comrade.

Mayfair would have to be the Throne room.
Jail would be a cell in Castlevania's catacombs.
Free Parking would be the Church from CV II.
Community Chess you'd need to crouch (hold down)
Some kind of Joke about Hotel(s) Transylvania

It would almost be more interesting to make it of Bloodlines and have 8 distinct locations around the world as per colour strip.
The 4 Kings Cross locations would be bosses; The Creature, The Mummy, Medusa and Dracula. (The most iconic 4)

The main thing that doesn't make sense is that CV was never about collecting money, so this would need to be implemented in a sense which suits the series more. I almost think CV would be better copying Hero Quest, that board game was the shit!

Reminds me of a Warhammer40k (more specifically rogue trader) version I saw once. https://1d4chan.org/images/9/90/Monopoly_RogueTrader.jpg

"GO" should be the Castle gates.
The two "Community Chest" should be wall candles
"Free Parking", either a save room from one of the Metroidvanias, or the church from Simon's Quest.
"Won the beauty contest" card could be "Found Meat in the wall".
Go directly to jail could be "fell down a giant hole into the dungeons" or "Petrified by a Medusa Head" with the jail itself being either the dungeon or temporary state of being turned to stone.
I don't remember the other cards, but they could be tied on cards with being hit by enemies for negative effects and finding hearts/weapons/upgrades in candles for positive effects.
"Luxury Tax" could be "Hit by Dracula's Fireball" or "Lost to Dracula"
"Income Tax" could be "Knocked Backwards off a Ledge" or "Lost to Medusa" (or whatever boss you feel like)
Instead of houses and hotels, you could call them ramparts and turrets.

Each of the set of properties could be represented by pictures of the same castle area from different games and time periods. For example Oriental, Vermont and Connecticut Avenues could be 3 versions of the arena. Named either by game like "Symphony of the Night Arena" or by time period "Old Arena" "Mid Arena" "New Arena".

Oh, or the jail could be the continue screen, like you lost your last life and have to start the level all over, and you're just waiting to press continue again.

POR would work really well for Monopoly as you could have the 4 distinct areas split into 2 sub areas:
- City of Haze/ 13th Street
- Nation of Fools/ Burnt Paradise
- Sandy Grave/ Forgotten City
- Forest of Doom/ Dark Academy

I think the "beauty contest" card should be Simon from Captain N looking at himself in his portable mirror :)

Any kind of farse or joke card should be Dr. Acula from Scrubs.

The Medusa stare = prison is a good idea, therefore "get out of jail card = sanctuary"

Maybe each character could have a health meter rather than money.

Make it so you have to circle the board a few times, then fight Dracula!

I was thinking more along the lines of using the locations and towns from Castlevania 2.

Awesome, should make everything waterproof and submersible. Everyone can play underwater until someone gets a blue crystal, then you can take it out and continue the game (dry) XD

Sorry I should've mentioned you can only customize the main colored properties and several of the community chest and chance cards. So, I can't change the things like the four corners, the utilities, the railroads, and I can't change things like luxury tax or sales tax

Who's to say Dracula doesn't need his own train or electric company?

... actually a ghost train might make for a good stage in an actual CV game.
