Title: Does anybody know anything about hacking music in Castlevania 3
Post by: Holy Diver on December 20, 2015, 03:53:52 PM
Hello fellow dungeon-ers.
I'm new here at Castlevania Dungeon Forums and I hope I'll have some fun here. ;D
Anyways, I really like Castlevania 3 and I also like SoTN.
Of these 2 SoTN has better music IMHO.
I would like to try make a hack that will have some new graphics (if I figure out what's what in Tile Layer), some new level layouts and some new music.
While I can edit levels with reVamp and edit graphics with TL, I have no clue how to change music.
I know that it should mostly be messing around with hex editors but I suck at programing in more recent programming languages, let alone 6502.
Sooo... Anybody wants to help?

Also sorry for potential bad english, I'm not from english speaking country.

My assumption is you have already tried the web via search and visited Rom-hack.net.

Yep, I tried romhacking.com already but found no hacking notes for CV3 whereas there were some for CV 1 & 2 (by Optomon I believe). CV2 is pretty much a broken game and only a master hacker could fix it, on the other hand CV 1 is awesome but 6 stages is just not enough for me. Also I dont really know how to decompress (I think that's how it's called) sprites in CV1 when using TLP(I think YY-CHR has some tools for decompressing but I just can't get it in english, it's either some jibberish crap or japanese.) If someone knows something about decompressing it would also be helpful.

ThouAegis would be the guy to ask about this, if you can get ahold of him. Guy knows CV3 inside-out.

Thanks Drac9. I'll try to find a way to ask him.
Is he in these forums and did he change his username?
I can't seem to find him here.

Dracula9 misspelled his name.
It's "TheouAegis".
But he hasn't logged on since November.

Can always PM him....I think that sends an email usually.

Whoops, typo.

He hangs around the YoYoGames boards last I was there, though it's been several months since then and I couldn't say for certain if he's actually active therein.

Thx Drac9, Jorge and Sindra, you all rock. :D
Also Dracula9, do you mind if I call you just Drac9.
It's not very different but some people I know get mad for such stuff.

Not really, it's been shortened all the way down to D9 before. It's just a username, so I'm not particularly picky on what iteration or shortening is used.

I know that it's just a username but I know people who get mad for things that are as meaningful as that.
Well, I guess I have nothing more to do on this thread.

But before (or if) I make a thread for this project in Fan Stuff I wanted to show my WIP Alucard.
He is (obviously) that one in the middle and he seems kinda off.
For starters I'm not sure if I'm going to use that black-gray-gray palette since I'm not sure how it wil fit with the rest of the game.
If anyone has something to note on palette or ways I could improve Al go on ahead.
Also, you can use and edit the sprite (i'ts not really good but some people can make wonders out of trash)
without crediting me as long as you don't claim it to be yours.
