Title: What if? Alternate Castlevania!
Post by: The Bizarre Trooper on March 20, 2016, 08:43:00 AM
There has been something that has always plagued my mind: What would have happened if Mathias Cronqvist DIN'T became Dracula but Leon Belmont DID? What would happen to Mathias after Leon become's Dracula? Would Mathias be able to wield the Vampire Killer? How would it affect this somewhat new timeline? i for one am open to your interpretions!

Especially you theplottwist, i wonder what you'd think of this alternate timeline and what would happen from 1094 to 2035! =D

If Leon were to become Dracula, the events previous to Lament would've to be different.

Leon, firstly, is not an alchemist. He'd have to manipulate someone (possibly Mathias) in creating a Crimson Stone for him for whatever reason, and that would take a LOT of convincing, considering Mathias only resorted to doing it because he felt betrayed by God. And this is on the remote chance he's able to outsmart Mathias, a genius tactician.

Leon would've to undergo a big trauma, much bigger than Sara's death, to choose to become Dracula. As we learn on the ending of Lament, Leon has a character strong enough to not let her death stray him from the path of good as Elisabetha's death strayed Mathias.

Now, if Mathias became the hero and his bloodline were to hunt Leon after this, then I quite possibly think they would battle in a completelly different way, such as using magic instead of melee. Mathias was not a fighter, but a strategist. Leon was the muscle, and he'd be a quite brawny Dracula.

I can't imagine what would the rest be like.

If Leon became Dracula the Belmont Bloodline would cease to exist... GAME OVER

Mathias being the tactician may not have been as skilled in battle and perhaps would not have been able to defeat Walter.
You would therefore have to find other ways to ensure Walter would be defeated essentially by setting traps eg. freeing Joachim and luring him into Walter's throne room to be the distraction while Mathias would be placing failsafes to ensure Walter's Death.

It would be more like Deception IV Blood Ties.
Mathias would always be several steps ahead of his adversaries.
Of course that would be down right nutty, because while Leon is the just knight that rushes into battle to save his betrothed I believe Mathias nature when pushed to the edge is far more dark and sadistic which doesn't necessarily make him ideal as a protagonist. (unless we're talking about Berserk)

I think the best alternative scenario is what if Leon accept Mathias' offer to join him with his revenge against god.

There should've been a Mathias fight before Death which would've been the final battle if you lost, and that should've been the bad non-canon ending.

As previously mentioned, there is no reason for Leon to become Dracula. I agree with Shinobi: the only plausible option is that Leon accepted Mathias's offer. Why would he do that? I don't know, he's the classic hero archetype so it's hard to find a reason to make him an antagonist, but... maybe if he had felt a little more betrayed by the Church and God, and Mathias had played his cards better... I think that, for a genius like Matt, he completely failed at convincing Leon to join him. I mean, Mathias had TONS of stuff he could have used. Their time in the Middle East and the atrocities they must have seen, how he was abandoned by the Church, how his God abandoned Sara and him... Still, he did indirectly kill Sara, so I think eventually Leon would have teamed up with whatever hunters appeared to destroy Dracula, and we'd have him instead of Alucard or Hector. Maybe Rinaldo fled and created the Gandolfi bloodline?
