Is Sonic great again?...Guys?
-
I'm hyped, and I haven't cared about Sonic since it left the Genesis.
-
Sonic Mania is definitely something I'm going to buy. A game made by the guys who remade Sonic CD, Sonic 1 and Sonic 2? Hells yes! Toss in the guys who were formerly part of Sonic 2 HD? Even more so! Glad there's a new classic Sonic sidescroller coming out.
The Sonic 2017 project seems interesting, and definitely going to be looking out for it. Seems to be a boost game similar to Colors and Generations. The fact that Eggman may have taken over the world seems promising.
-
Is it okay to get hyped? Sure it is. Only so long as the product in question lives up to that hype.
The last great Sonic game was Sonic and Knuckles. In fact the whole Death Egg saga (Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles) was the height of the series. For me there hasn't been a good one since then. I've given the Sonic Advance series a try and while they're good they aren't as great as the aforementioned. Though Amy Rose did add a new definition of play for me. Sonic mania looks like they're going back to basics and adding some new twists to it. And at least they are using the traditional art style and not that crappy one that came about with the Sonic reboot game :P Also for me it's not about the system the game is on but the game itself.
-
Sonic is one of those game franchises that I will never learn my lesson with. The only Sonic games I've enjoyed since the first Adventure released were Colors and Generations. Regardless, I've been excited for every Sonic game that has come out, even if they weren't exactly a good game.
-
Fucken oath, I never played Sonic CD through although I have it on an emu somewhere.
I'm more psyched for Generations 2, G1 was the best sonic game since Sonic 3 imo. I played the shit out of that game and speed ran Green Hill about 1000 times.

I haven't cared about Sonic for ages, but these 2 games really have my interest! Mania is a definite buy, and imma wait for more info on '17 to come out before I make any real judgements. Plus I'm interested about the NX confirmation, still curious af what that systems gonna be like

Well, there's the recent rumours that leaked if you want to sate your appetite while you wait for its reveal and release. Apparently they're going for a more portable approach.
That, and you can listen to Studiopolis Zone Act 1 from Sonic Mania if those leaks aren't enough :P
That tune is very catchy. Reminiscent of Sonic CD (Stardust Speedway Present comes to mind).

I've read up on those rumors, but I'm taking them with a grain of salt. If Nintendo does a super powerful portable, I'd be fine with that personally
That song is quite owesome I'll admit! I hummed it yesterday, and it was the first time I'd heard it lol

I liked the 3DS and everything but I'm pretty over handhelds. I think the gamepad was actually a nice idea for switching between TV and LCD but portables are a bit meh these days.
If the rumours are true Ninty need to focus on one hole console and stop basing their ideas on gimmicks. I would however fully support seeing sonic on Nintendo again.

I'd probably be in the opposite side of the fence. The 3DS is a great portable and I'm sure it's still got plenty of life in it for at least another few years before it starts going out in popularity. Not mention I just got mine last year so I'd be a little peeved if the NX were another handheld.
Seriously, give us a new console. After the disaster that was the Wii U, I really want them to do something good.

The Adventure rereleases on Gamecube were great, and so were the Sonic Advance games, so it would be pretty awesome! If the NX does have some gimmick to it (hopefully one that doesn't distract from the experience or make games a chore to play), some creative ideas could come out of Sonic Team for this one

Good point. Some ppl are saying Nintendos gonna do what they did with the DS launch: Call it a "third wheel" or alternative to GBA. I doubt that, especially because of the reason you just stated. And the New 3DS came out fairly recently, it'd be good to let the 3DS family last longer. A hybrid device seems like the best way to go. Nintendo will wanna stand out from XB1 and PS4 somehow

All they need to do is get 3P support, and then the rest will follow. Making their consoles overly complicated or specific just detracts from blockbuster titles (which aren't Nintendo-made) from selling.. WHY would you want that??
Can you imagine how well the Wii would have sold if it could play all the 3P games of PS3 and 360? They would have topped the market. Nintendo needs to stop being obscure and start becoming that popular kid again.
-
Yeah, if Nintendo didn't make a console around a gimmick and game it some horsepower, they would be great.
but... then again... the Wii is the third best selling console of all time.

Yeah, the New 3DS point is a good one. I couldn't afford one for a while, and when I could, they pumped out the New 3DS, which is the one I got. And they've barely taken advantage of the stronger hardware on the system. I'm not saying they should make more New 3DS exclusives, but it'd be great if more games took advantage of the new hardware.
I mean, Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate looks and plays great on the New 3DS, with much better controls and almost instant loading times during missions. Tecmo Koei managed to condense the MASSIVE Hyrule Warriors for the New 3DS as well as add new content (I say for the New because it performs horribly on the regular). I really wanna see more games take advantage of this, whether it be in slight graphical upgrades or performance upgrades. But so few of the games I've played are any different.
Also, Nintendo should really just go back to a standard gaming console. Sure, not much would make it all that different from the PS4 and Xbox One, but if they made the specs of it on par with the PS Neo and Project Scorpio, it'd give them a fighting chance. Not to mention more developers would actually want to make games for it since it doesn't have any gimmicky controllers. On top of a potentially insane first-party library that people would eat up, since Nintendo has consistently had arguably the best first-party library of the three major companies. Unfortunately, right now, first-party support is all Nintendo has.
Though with this new Sonic '17 being confirmed for NX as well as PS4 and Xbone, I actually have quite some hope for the console.

What's bs is that there are 3DS Virtual Cobsole downloads like ALTTP which are only for 'new' nintendo 3ds, that is cheaper than Apologyman's incoming mixup in Umvc3. That sort of reaming the consumer-type mentality is when I stop buying consoles.

That's where things do get tricky. Nintendo has their exclusives, and that should be enough for them to succeed. At the same time, a ton of ppl are backtracking on their "Nintendo must be the same" argument. They say "why would I want yet another console just to play the same games?". I feel like the game journalists or ppl who buy all systems miss something: NOT EVERYONE WANTS MULTIPLE CONSOLES AND NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD MULTIPLE CONSOLES. If someone wants third party but also wants Nintendo games, they have to either go for PC, which has a high asking price assuming you wanna build something that can run AAA games very well, and they'll also have to buy the Nintendo console. Imagine having an all in one system: Nintendo games and the third party of PC, PS4 and Xbone. It'd be great for Nintendo fans!
Nintendo consoles are also always cheaper. Might be tricky for them to make a console up to snuff with the Neo and Scorpio at an affordable price. They at least need to make something X86 so ports can be easily done, and at least make it comparable to an extent with the Neo and Scorpio so devs don't have to change a lot of their game's to run well enough. Plus, imagine how fucking awesome a new Zeda would look on something like the XBone or PS4, let alone the Scorpio or Neo(even tho we haven't seen those systems power yet).
As for Sonic, hopefully it's a sign of things to come. Segas always supported Nintendo since they got out of the console business, and hopefull that long relationship isn't the sole reason Sega is supporting NXeith this game: hopefully it's because devs around the board are interested. I know Square Enix and I believe Take Two said something, but third parties spoke well of the Wii U
