well yeah the variety of locations in Castlevania II and
Super Castlevania IV were great.
but yeah, really epic castles you can backtrack and stuff
are great too! well yeah that made SOTN popular. but yeah
castle themes sure have lots of potential and design
variety, yup yup.
castles are great, cause they are multi-leveled, each
section could have its own theme, and it can be filled with
enemies, bosses, traps, secrets, and treasure! it sure
feels epic when done right! :)

So basically a new SotN with a more epic feel ?

I feel like, after playing the series for as long as I have, that the series itself is becoming a little less appealing to me. Don't get me wrong, I loves me my classic CV games, but many of the new games suffer same-ism on a harsh level. I think it's time for another reinvention of the series along the same lines of what SotN did for it. We're reaching the point where the series will have followed Castleroid-style longer than even the classic one!
I'm not saying add space marines or any of that bull. But please give me another reason to play the game other than playing another CastleVania game!

I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I can understand the sentiment. I think that's why Aria and Sorrow were a breath of fresh air, since it added a little something new.
I'm interested to learn about this new game, to see what's new.
Though as far as the game goes, I personally like the build up: going through areas outside before actually reaching Dracula's castle. Like with CV3.

Make a game where it converts thoughs of the user in to the castle of which you play. Monsters also included, very high tech sounding huh?
Or just make a real castle with real monsters sounds good right?

Yeah, but we just need more variety.

I feel the same exact way. Metroidvania style is starting to lose its appeal that it had when Symphony of the Night came out. I mean honestly they can keep throwing me the Metroidvania style and I am gonna keep playing them. However, I think even IGA realizes that the formula is starting to wear itself out. They could make a new Castlevania that involves stages and go back to the old-school stage formula. The thing is that there is only so much you can do. They got it somewhat right with Portrait of Ruin with exploring other areas. I always wanted to explore the outsides of the castle like the forests, the towns, maybe even an evil church? IGA can get much more creative and I think in time he is going to surprise us with another masterpiece like Symphony.

A Castlevania 2 style game would be awesome.
Going through towns, forests, caves, swamps and eventually reaching Dracula's Castle (which could be a whole new full game in it ala reversed castle).
-
I'm bored of the "search the whole castle and never leave" scenario. PoR was a breath of fresh air in that you weren't stuck in the same locale for the entire game. I'd like to see something like CV2 or the 64 games where you have a variety of different places you traverse.
-
I would really like to see the 2D games move towards areas outside of the castle.Even though the castle is always different. But I think it would be cool to see a 3D game where most of it is in the castle. I think the SotN castle but in 3D would be very impressive and I think if they fixed all the problems with the PS2 games, it could be done well
-
Yeah, outside areas would be nice.
But not like portrait which pretended to have outside areas, but in reality the outside areas made like 5% of the portraits with the rest being indoors in either a pyramid, magic school, giant bakery or circus tent, but like cv2, first half of cv3 or cv4.

Like in the older games because realisticly speeching I dont think dracula wants to walk down hundreds of hallways just to take a crap. I could see going to local towns and freeing them and learning lore and stoies behind the myths and truths in the game.
I do agree with you profbeanburrito that the 2d games need to take place more out side but the 3d ones need to explote the interior. The only problems with the 3d onces is that it is massively hard to think of the next hallway and not copy it slightly but better textures for the walls and lighting would be amazing.
Hay I will make a castlevania on my computer using Jedi Knights Outcast radient I will post a picture and give the map to any one who wants it.

It seems most of you are ignoring CoD. It was almost completely outside. But I still want a Castlevania/Legend of Zelda Combo. A gothic Legend of Zelda would be perfect.
-
How about a Succubus subgame and dont say you know what I am taking about. Great way to get extra hearts.
Thats what castlevania needs to do is be a rival version of Legend of Zelda. But thats what I was trying to make refrece to was CoD never said it though.

Oh, I see. But I think Castlevania would be even cooler if it were combined with Zelda. And that Succubus game is cool. I mean, I just wanted to play as her. That would be awesome if there was a game where you played as a succubus roaming through a town, stealing the souls of perverted men.

Simon's Quest was a more action oriented Zelda type thing I think. As much as I love Simon's Quest, I don' really want Castlevania to take on any Zelda qualities. :P

Especially the not being able to jump!

There are several qualities that zelda and castlevania share such as a chosen hero to save their worlds and a final boss that looks badass like Ganondorf in twilight princess. Castlevania is like zelda but for adults

I was thinking something else but Succubi are awsome to well um...yah but they steal your soul good thing Leon didnt get frisky or did he?

Well, thats what I mean, A Zelda where you can jump. Actually, the characters, abilities, items, story, and enemies wouldn't change, just more places to go, a bigger world, with lots more RPG elements, buit still focused on action, not like those crappy Final Fantasy games.

Sounds like TES

LOL ;D
Anyways, new Castlevanias should really be like CV2 but with the gloomy, sinister look of CV4..
Example, you have Transylvania or Wallachia(spelling?) and you're going from village to village, visiting temples and Castles and in the end, you face the classic location of Castlevania.
Seriously though, the new Castlevanias should all be like Super Castlevania IV.

That actually sounds perfect! You nailed it.

Technically, Succubi also steal semen for Incubi to use to impregnate women. But if that bit of the mythology was ever used in a CV, it would probably get an instant AO rating.

That... Would be awesome. I just wonder how jumping would work. Make the Action button the Jump button?

Yeah, but we just need more variety.
I agree like what they did in CIII or SC4. Hell I'd love another platforming castlevania game w/out the level up aspect that was cool and all in SOTN but I'm starting to tire of dealing w/ it in every game. IGA really needs to freshen things up more.

Amen *to the thread title*

I getting somewhat tired of the whole being stuck in a castle thing. OoE was a breath of fresh air with the whole exploring various areas outside of the castle and only making the castle a small part of the game.
I think that the next thing to come out should be a variation of the format of OoE. And maybe not even have the castle. Instead, have the premise of the games to pursue and stop an evil cult from reviving the dark lord. We also need a game that isn't set in Europe for once. I mean AoS was good in that respect, but we need the games to take place in other places. Perhaps, one game could be about Dracula's rise to power. That could be a neat game.
-
yeah, but through who's point of view? draculas or a losing vampire hunters(which mind you, would be nice, since for once dracula wouldn't job to just anybody that had the balls to traverse his castle)?

A game from Dracula's point of view might be a nice change. I mean it gets boring always playing on the side of good.
