Title: Talk Trump, not games
Post by: Abnormal Freak on January 21, 2017, 03:07:24 AM
because that's all K. Kalata is doing (https://twitter.com/HG_101), so let's follow his example. Nothing more intellectually stimulating than Trump=HITLAR

If you have a gaming site or any kind of social media presence, it doesn't make sense to use that as a sounding board for your opinions on things other than the designated topic. This shit has been cluttering up my Twitter feed—retweet after retweet of things barely having to do with games.

I go on Twitter primarily for game news, and also to get away from the stupid bullshit surrounding me every day. All Kurt is wont to do is be a snide dickhead in response.

You're lucky you don't follow me there, I tweet mostly pro wrestling, with a little classic video game flavor thrown in for good measure. I also tend to rant about pro wrestling there, but I'm chill on games.

Edit: Found your Twitter. ;)

I do add friends, I just pop in mostly for le gamez, and I was pretty damn salty today to find my feed flooded with political posts, BY A GAMING WEBSITE.

If you added me, I'll add you back.

I have a very strict policy on what I allow on my Twitter feed as pertains to politics. If I see somebody's content veer in the direction of "angry pundit" or "politician's cheerleader", I start a week-long timer, and if it's not a temporary thing that goes away by the end of a week, I unfollow them.

I try to keep my Twitter posts as varied as I can, and I mostly do that via my Tumblr.

Done and done. :)

I do need to do more retro game tweets, I follow a couple folks, and some follow me about the hobby of collecting.

I give all of two shits for people posting whatever the heck they want on their personal pages (follow me @Swankly to read me describe my next dump); I just dislike someone using their "company" page to talk to their followers about something other than the intended subject. That just pisses me off because I follow @HG_101 for game info and links to new articles, not half-baked political junk. If one more dumbass equates a Trump presidency to Master-D & the Badds, I'm gonna flip my funk king lid and be done with the Internet for a while.

It's hard, really, to resist the urge, when you have a large fanbase, to use your popularity for political purposes.

Politics ARE important; people who refuse to acknowledge that don't realize how much an influence the big brotha has over your life; in addition, it's also about the right and maybe responsibility that you have to share what you think with a large audience.

Of course, there are those who shout out (especially right-wingers) that celebs who don't understand a darn thing about politics need to STFU and just stick to their area of expertise; to me, If you have the power to influence, you should do it. But give your audience a favor: don't bitch. Political commentary, like any commentary, needs to be constructive. If you post "this movie sucks; don't watch it", why should people trust you? You haven't explained yourself. The same is true of politics. Is your commentary contributing anything, or is it just bitching? Run this test before posting.

With this HG101 stuff, it's "TRUMP IS HITLER AND IF YOU DON'T AGREE YOU'RE JUST LIKE THE NEUTRAL GERMANS WHO TURNED A BLIND EYE WHEN JEWS WERE BEING MASSACRED." It's the most goddamned ridiculous, dimwitted bullshit I've seen and Kurt is really fucking sincere about it. I get enough of that shit elsewhere in the world, every day; I don't need that stupidity when all I wanna do is read/think about some games.

He's intentionally shitting all over a potentially large number of his audience, not just discussing politics. He's going about it all ham-fisted and sardonically, which never worked to enlighten anybody.

I mean, for fuck's sake, he used the term "fuckbois" to describe the dissenting voices. I won't be buying any more of the dude's books, that's for sure. You don't talk to your audience that way.

Jason Isaacs is a textbook example of a left-wing leaning celebrity who just spews unverifiable shit hoping some of it will stick. I started following him on Twitter because he's usually a nice guy, but God help you if you're a moderate or right wing person around him. He turns very suddenly from the nicest guy you'll know straight into Lucius Malfoy. His utter lack of manners towards people who disagree led me to stop following him and I no longer value anything he has to say.

I believe in civil debate, not shitslinging.

'Trump' is another word for 'Fart' in England.

I'm a fairly left leaning person, and I hate it when liberals invoke Godwin's law from the get-go.

George W.; Obama; and during this last election, Trump, Sanders, and Clinton; were all called Hitler. They can't all be Hitler. That shit needs to stop happening. Nothing makes me roll my eyes more.

Like, was Bush Hitler (and a lot of people said he was), but Trump is even more Hitler, thus a Mega Hitler? Like, more Hitler than Hitler? I don't get it.

Mega Hitler? Now we need someone to create a Hitler in a Mega Man suit image to complete things.  ;D

I think people are just sick and tired of the electoral college overriding the will of the majority popular vote.

We didn't choose Trump. And now we're stuck with a goblin that 3 million more people than voted for him didn't want.

We saw it happen in 2000 in favor of the right and now it's happened again. Things need to change so that he vote of the public actually matters.

Good for Kurt using his platform to speak his mind.

The electoral college exists to prevent any one area of the country from choosing the president. California, NYC, and Minneapolis don't speak for the everyman farmers and blue collar workers outside of major cities.

Regardless, tweeting to your video game audience about your butthurt is (a) annoying and (b) accomplishes nothing, because Kurt going out on a women's march won't mean Trump is magically no longer president, and you're not reaching a new audience with whiny protests. Try to convert people, make them see your point of view, rather than mocking those who disagree with you, because all you're doing then is shouting to the wind.

Put it this way, Belmontoya: If you followed a gaming site on Twitter and anytime in the last eight years they made political rants about Obama, would you put up with it? I couldn't stand Obama, but all the same I would gripe about and unfollow someone if they had made those rants on their gaming forum, because as stated, I'm on Twitter for games, not other bullshit. I already get politics crammed in my ears, eyes, and asshole from all angles every day; I don't need some condescending prick mouthing his mental sewage when I'm following gaming dudes and sites on Twitter.

I don't even fucking like Trump, I just don't wanna read some keyboard warrior thinking he's making a difference when his Twitter handle is dedicated to games. Kurt can make a personal account if he wants to, but then he wouldn't have nearly as many followers that would blow him in agreement, so I guess that's why he's tainting @HG_101.

Yes, according to Japan it's possible.

People take politics waaaay to seriously in the wrong way.

Yeah, but he couldn't. He was too busy cleaning up the mess that Bush left in his wake. And yes, too many people take politics way too seriously. Especially in the US. It's not a healthy habit. If somebody were to make fun of my country's new prime minister? So what. It's got nothing to do with me personally. It's just a mindless waste of energy on something that could be better spent in more productive and creative ways that serve me.

People take it too seriously, which goes back to the original point: If people follow your Twitter because it's associated with your long-standing, comprehensive video game website, don't use it as a platform for your personal thoughts unrelated to gaming. That means: don't post a million pictures of your dog, don't share the food you just ate, don't tell me about the new pair of comfy shoes you just bought; because your page serves one purpose: gaming.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Politics are okay once in a while, but we already have other politics threads and I doubt another one like this is such a great thing. Locked.
