Title: Soul Blazer arrangements (SNES)
Post by: Jazz Paladin Productions on January 31, 2017, 03:22:44 AM
Always trying to bring some love to old-school classics. Here's my take on a few from Soul Blazer.

Link is for Spotify, but should be in other digital avenues soon, working on getting them uploaded to Youtube.

Kinda unfortunate that some people (like myself) need access to facebook in order to listen to these arrangements. I personally don't do things like facebook cause I don't see the point. Can you share these recordings through another means? I'd like to hear them.

Interesting, I didn't think the link would force Facebook logins at all. It's usually a prominent option for logging in, but there is also typically the option to login via username and password, and it's pretty easy to create a free account.

The music should be in most digital streaming services by now if you use those (Deezer, Apple Music, etc...) . I'll eventually get around to uploading the content all to Youtube or something, at the moment I only have one of the tracks there.

That was Jazzy! I recognize the tune as well. One of the three temples in the bog of area 2.

Yup, that's area all right!

I like that tune a lot, it's one of the reasons I go back to play that game every so often...but I think my personal fav is the Tower of Magridd Castle, which I'll post a link to when I can...

In the meantime...back to area two!

Definitely could not do slow or lazy Jazz with that tune, lol! At least not with the original composition. Still, sounds good  :)

Oh, I hear you, totally...

Usually I try to make things that are different from the original in some ways, but for this project, I really wanted to stay true-to-the source as much as possible and evoke that feeling where back in the day  you could leave the game running for hours on end and have the midi-loops play over and over. But I definitely also wanted to beef up the quality as well.

So the Area 1 area (the mine) stays pretty true to the original in some ways. Icefields of Lanoyle (Area 5) starts off true to the source, but takes a soul-filled departure in the middle. But for me Magridd is where it's always been at, so I can't wait to upload that one! I tried to give it a huge big-band feel, and am really happy that I had some nice background vocals I could throw in as well, courtesy of my wife.

I really want to redo the whole game soundtrack, but it can be tricky with a toddler running all over the place these days...

I love SoulBlazer! The ending theme "Ode to Lisa" is so touching.

Holyshit! soul blazer is amazing and I am super happy to see this. I remember playing this one actraiser and illusion of gaia a lot back in the day. Soul blazer is by far the least talked about of the 3.

Agreed, I like that one a lot, too. I'll have to come back to that in the near future...I also like "World of Demons" "Into the Dream" and "Seabed of St. Elles", and started but didn't get a chance to finish these yet.

Actraiser is also one of my favorites, I go back to play that every so often, too. I pine for updates or remakes to Soulblazer and Actraiser very much...

I'd rank Illusion higher and in the same league as Soul Blazer and Actraiser if it weren't for the linearity of the game...clearly the graphics and gameplay were more refined in Illusion, but that sense of having a direct and shaping impact on the world is sadly absent, which was really part of what made Soul Blazer and Actraiser so appealing and special back in the day...

Area 4, "Mountain of Souls" or Ice Fields of Lanoyle.
