Mostly I want a cool answer because I've wondered about it for so long that it's kind of my version of Half Life 3: whatever happens, it's been built up in my head for so long that it almost hurts.
What is the exact nature of Juste's relation to Richter?!
Their lifespans almost certainly overlap given Juste's relative youth when he inherited the whip and the dates in which their adventures are said to occur. Assuming he hadn't been murdered or faced a fatal accident, Juste'd probably be about Julius' age (if not older) by the time Rondo rolled around. This means he could be Richter's father, uncle, or grandfather/uncle, and I've seen arguments for all.
Personally raw instinct draws me towards probably grandfather due to Richter's age during his adventure, but honestly all I've got is some sort of a feeling.
This is the question that actually caused me to start studying the genealogy of the Belmont and Morris clans in the first place (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,8504.msg188461.html). This is the question that got me studying etymology (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,8478.msg188093.html). And therefore, this is pretty much the question that has indirectly caused in some manner almost every major fight/argument I've been in on this forum, because what I found during my studies indicated that the way family propagation and politics was done in Castlevania was absolutely absurd. Which then led me to see absurdity everywhere else.
This is it, my Patient Zero.
I REALLY WANNA KNOW. Because I've wondered since I was in sixth grade.
In other news: never study video games academically. That way lies only heartbreak and meaningless hardship.

Really, I theorized Juste is Grand dad, and mentor.
Richter inherited item crash naturally, Juste just taught him how to use it, that or Richter just ripped some pages from those books.

He's Juste friend.

Juste get over it. 8) There's no use richtering your scales over it. Have an orange, Julius... uhhh...I gotta get something out of my car

Given that there is the same time gap between Simon and Juste as there is Juste and Richter, I'd say grandfather is a safe bet.

I'm summoning plottwist.
I'm thinking Juste is juste a granddad.
-
Juste is juste a Richter's Grandad. If Richter is juste Juste's son, Juste would be juste as old as Christopher in Belmon't Revenge.
-
Most likely Juste is Richter's Grandfather. People of that time were still marrying young and having children so it's a safe bet.
-
Also remember Juste still have to uphold Belmont's juste a Dracula-hunting vow. Don't think he will wait till his 40s when there is clear reason to have a baby.

The long and short of it is that we can't know for sure. What we DO know, however, is that Juste has to be either Richter's grandpa or father, due to the "forefathers" and "legitimate heirs" stuff. It's simply much more likely that Juste would train only a child of his to inherit the whip, rather than a nephew or something of the sort.
But I do believe Juste to be Richter's grandpa too, due to how early people had their children back then. Also a bit of AlexCalvo's logic, too.
So, in all, I'm on the same boat as everyone on that one :\
