Title: Official CV music omitted from iTunes
Post by: Belmontoya on April 10, 2017, 06:12:51 PM
Just thought I'd mention that for years now I've been enjoying the SOTN and COD ost's on Apple Music.

Last week SOTN vanished... Then Curse of Darkness vanished.

Upon further investigation I found that not only had these 2 wonderful albums by Yamane been removed from Apple Music, but from itunes as well!

I realized that the LoS1&2 osts have also been removed.

As far as I can tell there is no official CV albums on iTunes or Apple Music as of now.

I can live with Los and COD but SOTN was on my daily mix...

 :(

A shame of the world.

It's just unrealistic that one can't get a digital copy by any means...Or if they encountered copyright trouble?

To find and hunt those extremely rare copy of soundtracks nowadays is just unrealistic.

I ripped SotN and CoD to my PC's hard drive years ago. I kinda knew this was going to happen since companies seem to have this predictable mindset. And it never fails to happen. so I prepared for it. All I have to do is simply put them on an Mp3 player and I'm good to go.

It is really hard to get your hands on Castlevania OSTs. I only have a couple of them and I'm still on the hunt for more.

Well, since Konami isn't giving any options for a legal method, just grab them mp3s online.

CD Japan.  I got hold of the SotN ost for very cheap on there just last year, brand new copy as well.  They have a bunch of other Castlevania cds on there as well.  I've sworn by them for getting hold of a lot of stuff for ages.  They appear to have both SotN and CoD available atm: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/searches?term.media_format=&q=castlevania (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/searches?term.media_format=&q=castlevania) .  I got my copy of Santa Lilio Sangre from there as well.  Cost a small fortune in shipping but it arrived in just 4 days and over New Year at that.

Can't you just download it and pop it into your MP3 player?
What's this iTunes thing?

**doesn't own an Apple product** :P

Sorry I wasn't being specific.

It's not an issue of not having access to the music.
I'm a CV collector and I own copies.

I'm just expressing concern and lamenting over the inconvenience of Apple Music's albums being removed. It was nice having them there.

And I just think it's weird that they're not even for sale on iTunes anymore either.

Sounds like their contract's expired if not some other reason. It's a real shame we live in an age were this kind of corporate pandering is commonplace.

I see, what Konami is doing, at least of my deduction is trying to sell rights of Castlevania, but to do that they have to convince the stock owners that CV is worthless. Which might play good for us (if it falls to the hand of good company)

This level of delusion is sad

Also, the CDs still listed on the Konami Style JP shop have a "Waiting for backorder" tag, not sure if that's recent, but at least is not "Out of stock" so there's still hope

oh is that what happenned?  i tried loading my sotn songs yesterday (not sure why itunes randomly deletes tracks from my phone when i have plenty of storage) and was wondering why i couldn't redownload the randomly deleted tracks.  while trying to find the album on itunes, i stumbled across a metalvania soundtrack, thought it sounded awesome, so i bought it and put further investigation on hold.  the fans who make these albums deserve our money more than konami if they're going to be like that ><

edit: oh thank goodness i still have sotn on my old iphone.  while we're at it, Castlevania Puzzle Encore of the Night hasn't been on the app store for a while :(

They're not on Spotify either. Just confirmed.
Konami's done an evil thing again.

It's a shame the main Dungeon websites MP3 download links are no longer viable due to the host going kaput. Seems like it would be a pain to reassemble that collection, but it's as Shiroi says: if they're gonna make it impossible to do it legally, then only one alternative remains, and it is... less tasteful. But at least it's easier on your wallet.

That quote from Eric Roman in your sig really can't be any more relevant than now.

I know right?! Konami's business decisions make less sense than HTC's, and that's saying something!

it's not as if they're not thinking of cv music.  they're releaseing the nes sound tracks on vinyl.  or someone is, i'm assuming they're going through proper licensing procedures.  haha i had searched for the vinyl sound tracks on itunes a while ago just to see if they were there to no avail.

Sounds like their contract's expired if not some other reason. It's a real shame we live in an age were this kind of corporate pandering is commonplace.

I don't think contracts really expire , it's more a matter of the copyright holder deciding to opt out of making it available. At least for the stuff I produced, it's pretty much out there on iTunes or whatever until I decide to pull it.

A lot of the music industry is retaliating against Spotify, iTunes, etc though for not paying enough to the copyright holders. It could be related to this...

Nor is it a matter of iTunes obtaining a license, methinks. No matter how bad Apple wants it, they simply can't publish another parties' work if they don't want to. Ultimately, it's up to Konami and/or the producers to make it available and take the initiative.

Alternatively, it could also be some sort of internal legal dispute that leads to the removal of the content. For example, for all streaming content of "cover" songs, the composer of the song is entitled to a small royalty for each stream. In this case , even if Konami owns the material, for example, Yamane would be entitled to money for each time the music is played. However, if through some circumstance the metadata was set up incorrectly (it happens), the result can be that Yamane doesn't get her money. Once a problem like this is discovered, fixing the problem usually requires pulling the content (since it already has a barcode and metadata assigned an sent to various parities) and resubmitting the entire album and content from scratch...

Under such circumstances, legal actions can easily ensue. I know my wife and I noticed some of our favorite songs vanish from Spotify recently for no apparent reason, and this is content that is getting tens of thousands of streams per month. I can honestly see no reason to pull the content from a financial standpoint other than some sort of dispute...

So in terms of CV music, did the soundtrack for Castlevania IV ever happen to get a cassette release? I'm mainly asking because it came out in the same year as my car, which also happens to have a cassette player.

I like the way this carbon-unit produces thoughts.

Regretfully, I have no idea for certain, but I seem to recall someone waaaaaaay back on the Anti-Chapel mentioning a cassette soundtrack release for Symphony -- if they weren't just blowing smoke out their ass, then I'd say it might have been possible. However, that SCREAMS "limited release" so good luck finding a working copy today. Also they might have been fibbing, or even more likely my memory for this is not as reliable as I would like it to be.

So again, no clue in the end. :(

Stop calling me a carbon-unit. It makes me feel like I'm in Muv-Luv.
