Title: Dead Cells
Post by: Nail_Bombed on April 20, 2017, 03:54:17 PM
New game out on May 10th. Looks pretty darn nice. The dev team are classing it as a roguevania - Metroidvania with roguelite/like tendencies.

Looks decent hey. The colours give me a HyperLight Drifter vibe :)

The game is out, been digging it so far.

Difficult as hell tho.

Game is amazing imo. It sucks when you get weapons you don't like but still fun.

I like it better than Rogue Legacy, for sure. Though Rogue Legacy was also fun as hell when I went through it. Probably took me a good 50 hours before I beat that game. (though my estimate is flawed as I don't really remember how much I played.. could be 20, could be 100.)

All I can ever think of when I see this game's title is the "Dead Cell" antagonists from Metal Gear Solid 2.

Hopefully this game will let us go out in style, as prophesied by Our Lord, Hideo Kojima, long may he reign.

Who here has this?  Anyone?  When it says there is "Full Controller Support", is there a way to know what controllers?  I know I have a few games that are supposed to have controller support, but don't seem compatible with my PS4 controller...

My experience with the updates,
Fight the first boss, wreck him with every combo.
Update.
proceed in wrecking him.
Gets half-way down, all of the sudden...
He Wombo Combos you into instant death.

Yeah, Dead Cells is amazing, but I don't play it like other rougelikes, I pick it up every once in awhile to see where the rabbid updates have done to it.

Picked it up on last Steam sale.  It is very polished, and extremely addicting.  Hard to put down, combat takes me to an almost zen-like state.  Any fan of CV needs to get on this.

Did it go on sale recently?!  If so, phooey on me!  I've been trying to keep an eye out for a sale since I'm just a few bucks short of being able to get it.

I finally picked this up, but I just get an error message:

The application was unable to create an OpenGL context for your Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 video card.  OpenGL 3.2+ is required, please update your driver.

Can someone who is tech savvy help out a guy that mostly pretends to be?  I found on the support forum that others have run into this, and that the devs will (at some point) work on adding DirectX support (which may or may not help)...but I'm not understanding if I can just go download a fix somewhere?

I'm probably late.... but......

Go with the beta, I believe the beta has DirectX now. Or just download updated drivers if your gfx card can support opengl 3.2. Don't see why not, unless you got a real old computer.

Thanks, but somehow it works now.  I google searched, contacted a friend, and the developer, and none of their suggestions seemed to work.  Then I had a really crappy day (I don't even remember why it was crappy now) and thought, "I just wish this game would work.  That would be a good end to a crappy day."  Even though it hadn't worked the literal night before, I tried to start the game again and it just worked!

the most recent update has some fantastic changes to it, even a "castlevania-esque" option for the food items.
i haven't had time to play it much recently and check out everything that's changed, though from what i've seen they've added a ton of things lately.

this image sums up the game pretty much perfectly -

it's a ton of fun to play and the art style & general atmosphere of it is very well done.
That feel when you've unlocked every weapon BUT the whip...

The Valmonts whip blueprint can be obtained from the worm creatures in Sewers.  In the most recent (beta) update, you can find the legendary version of it!
