Wow, they are seriously competing for the Most Cartoonishly Evil Company award, aren't they?

If what this article says is true then there's no doubt they're mob affiliated. All the classic telltale signs are apparent.

It doesn't help that ex-Kons are called... well, ex-Kons, making Konami seem like a prison.

So does the owner have a curly moustache... of EVIL?
He may just be sitting on a throne sipping his blood wine as he berates his underlings. Meanwhile evil organ music plays.
Yeah, it's either that or the owner kicking puppies I imagine right now when thinking of this.

Well, they specialize in casino stuff, so yeah, perhaps.

Shit, that's a good point Shiroi. No house wins quite like the Casino. It's also an ideal place for mobsters to launder cash money.

IIRC, Konami was lobbying for some casino/gambling related stuff some time ago. Can't specify which, as I only vaguely remember it being the case.

Has there ever been a company that had as much blatant contempt for its own employees as Konami has? This just seems unheard of to me.

Large Law firms I've heard crazy shit about. You don't wanna know. I guess they are lawyers so they know what they can get away with.
Also banks refusing loan applications from their own permanent employees is pretty apeshit imo.
-
This is just sad. I remember a time when, upon seeing a Konami logo I'd expect great things out of the game in my hand. I think nowadays I might shed a tear for what used to be or...I don't know. I certainly don't have happy thoughts associated with that name anymore.

Heh. Despite sounding ridiculous, that's actually bad business practice. Ever heard of the moral hazard problem? That's moral hazard on steroids.
Imagine that: If I give you a loan, I expect you to pay it back to me. Then I ask: "how do you expect to pay me back?"
So you answer "I pay you back by working for you."
But then if I give you the loan, I'm tying my own hands. No matter how bad you screw up or neglect your job, I can't fire you because I depend on you to pay me my money back.

Yes but unlike an individual, the bank can sack you if you underperform and then foreclose on your property.

"What good is regretting it now? [...] This is the path I have travelled. To get what I wanted... If I apologise, if I repent...everything will come to an end. I'll never get to reach that place." - Some passerby God Hand Konami, seeing CV pachinko.
-
Konami has become really creepy in the past decade.
-
Well, seeing as their mostly involved in mobile games, pachinko and pachislot and the like, it wouldn't be too far off the mark to assume that they're in with the Yakuza or a foreign mob, as it's exactly those venues and genres that are often affected by criminal elements, since there's a lot of money to be made there.
-
>involved with casinos
>silencing tactics against people who leave their "family"
>reputation butchering of those same people
Oh yeah. There's definitely some mob involvement there.

Scary how it actually holds up, isn't it? Perhaps it is actually for the best that Konami doesn't produce any more Castlevania games, come to think of it...

Well, it's not only that the red flags are readily apparent.
Without spilling too many beans, I know some people with mob association (present, former, I won't say which). As a result I've got firsthand accounts of how those politics play out.
I would be genuinely shocked to discover that Konami well and truly did NOT have any such connections.

Agreed, though we will likely never find out... Unless Konami starts to displease those people, which is unlikely.
