Title: Main title music from the animated series
Post by: AlexCalvo on June 23, 2017, 06:28:39 PM

Not incredible, reminiscent of the sound track for the LoS games.  A shame it doesn't adapt a track from the classic series, but no biggie.  Funny that the name of the composer is Trevor Morris lol.

Can't wait to see how people take this horribly and explain how this proves the show will be terrible.

It's alright as a Main Title.
But I at least expect some organ and classic tracks for Dracula and Credits. Thats all I ask for.

The theme is alright but it's nothing to write home about or even worthy of a thread imo

I was making an effort to avoid commenting further on anything regarding this series. But I will not shut up just to avoid conflict.

This track ISN'T half-bad. I dig it, since I love this kinda music that evokes conflict and has a lot of strings and shit. Also, knowing who the artist is, I have some hopes of the entire track sounding good. But two things:

1. If you don't tell me this is Castlevania, I'd probably guess Iron Fist. Or Game of Thrones. Or literally anything else on Netflix.
2. Castlevania is known for its memorable tracks (even LoS has some of those). Tell me, in all honesty: Is this memorable? This doesn't sound "Castlevania" memorable.

This series is such a fucking enormous chance to grab a new audience and possibly renew the fanbase. Music was one of the things that glued Castlevania to my mind -- shit is earworm. But this? Boy, I can't even remember the first notes and I just listened to it.

No biggie here, no biggie there... How much more are you willing to let slide before you flip your shit? Bear in mind that I'm not saying you cannot LIKE it -- you can. Anyone can like anything they want. But this is the second extremelly-generic key series-defining element that you show a distaste but ignore because reasons.

And now I know there is more of this "generic quality stuff" coming, specially on the writing side. Just you wait to see.

And, this is curious... Shankar said they were going for a heavy-metal-inspired soundtrack because that's where the old games took inspiration for their rhythm (and if you read some interviews with the old music guys from the Rondo era, you will know this is true). I find it weird it didn't manifest on the main title itself... Maybe they're saving the best for the main course?

I never was a very big fan of the LoS music. There were some good tracks spread around here and there but over all they were quite generic. But then they released that LoS pachinko trailer and I realized maybe I should be careful what I wish for.
The tracks for that LOS pachinko game are excellent. They just don't fit at all.
Perhaps mood is more important when you're trying to tell a story.
And it's difficult for me to admit this since I love me some classic Castlevania music.

In my opinion story in a Castlevania is pretty much insignificant. So sacrificing music for story is a sin in my opinion. But the show might get a pass since story is all there is.

i'm not really a belmont tho but you catch my drift

Also, quick reminder it's entirely possible to take and old track and remake it into "series intro" format:

For some reason, I was thinking that they could've used Prelude (the first song you're greeted with when booting up the game) as the intro.  I think it would be a good intro song.

I see absolutely no reason why they couldn't do that. The tune itself was CVIII, and it had that kind of haunting quality to it. It expressed what was going on during those events in the game story. If done now with a full-on orchestra it would be epic! But I guess they decided on going generic instead.

Honestly, it's pretty obvious to me that Netflix has a type when it comes to music and they don't stray far from it. It's a damn shame. But if they can make this series to the same standard of Daredevil or Jessica Jones, I will forgive them because it means we're in for a real treat.

A generic and forgettable track.

Garbage generic film music (same as Lords of Shit). It seems that David Cock's lingering wad of pus filled lard has leaked its way onto this Netflix series as well. Too bad, had potential.

Sounds like generic 0815 'epic' music. Not really memorable.
Let's hope that the rest of the OST will be Heavy-Metal like Shanker has claimed.

It's an OK track.
But honestly, you can come up with a similar track by opening up your music program and inputting in some stuff with the East West plugin and it'll be similar.
In fact, there's a music studio that specializes on generic tracks with an epic feel.  "Immediate Music" comes up with music like this all the time.

It's certainly not mind-blowing.  And it's not at all an earworm (the Game of Thrones theme is a title theme and you can't start humming it without someone nearby joining in or recognizing it).

Generic 'Epic' Music.

Oh well, since you mentioned it, now I'm really disappointed it's not in it.

In fact, just browsing through YouTube, I found not one, but 3 versions that could totally work way better.
Actually, I'm showcasing 3 here, but every version that I found feels better that this, and these are fan made, I can only imagine what a professional studio recording would sound like.
They could use violins and organs for it, to give it a more eerie atmosphere.
Prelude not only is a memorable tune from the game, but it also has a recognizable melody.
And it sounds properly epic, instead of generic 'epic', it would serve as a build up for episodes, perfectly.

While this is indeed a chance they missed, I hope that's not the case for the entire soundtrack, I really am hoping for arranges of the game music in this animation.
It's not even asking much to be honest.

I love the tudors. I hope he does the rest of the music too.
