Title: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia confirmed in Nintendo Power
Post by: DraimanBelieve on May 28, 2008, 08:11:25 PM

So I just got my new Nintendo Power in the mail today and its the world exclusive preview of Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for DS.  Its a 10 page feature on the game. The Glyph system is basically the new gameplay mechanic  and it is the primary thing in the game.  There are no physical weapons in the game everything is done by glyphs in this game and they do consume MP with every attack.  Basically glyphs work as weapons or spells like they did in other CV games.

It says "The confodore Glyph, for example, manifests as a rapier, the Secare Glyph functions as a sword with an arced, overhead attack path; and the Cultar Glyph provides you with a throwing knife."  It says that there is an extra layer of strategy since everything consumes MP now since you can use strong weapons that consume a lot or weaker weapons that don't take as much MP.  You will be able to dual wield glyphs or assign different glyphs to the X and Y buttons. The Glyphs have special attacks as well.  Glyph Unions (special glyph attacks) use the traditional Castlevania hearts to use instead of MP.  The glyph system sounds kind of like a gimmick but I would have to play the game to see if that is true.

Glyphs basically replace souls in a sense except they have done more with them from what I am reading.  The game is setup a lot like Castlevania II: Simon's Quest with over 20 locales and a world map instead of the interconnected castle ones we know of.  Their are side-quest objectives (sounds like PoR's but maybe better).  The art style has been changed to a "more mature, somber, painterly aesthetic.  "We decided to change the art style", comments Iga, "Because the style fo the previous two DS games was not well received, and we felt that Ms. Kojima's style does not fit well for DS users very much.  Therefore, we decided to use a new illustrator named Masaki."

The visuals are also receiving extra punch thanks to more detailed animations and a specially created design tool that allowed the development team to include and increased number of multi-segmented enemies.  Michiru Yamane is doing the soundtrack for the game.  None of the characters from other titles are returning except for Dracula but there are elements they are saying will be recognizable to veteran players.  Nintendo Wifi is returning with refinements to make it better.  The timed versus competitions will factor how much damage you receive and what items you use into determining the winner, and online item-trading will offer an improved interface that allows each player to have his or her own shop.  There are some additional features they can not let us in on but they said at its heart lies a tried and true formula of gothic action, adventure and exploration.  There will be a hard mode and multiple endings for hardcore  CV fans. The other big thing that I read is that NP is suggesting the level design is better but who knows by how much?  Thats basically everything in a nutshell unless I missed something and I don't believe I did.

Yeah I checked to see if anyone else did a post or a thread on it but didn't see anything about the Nintendo Power issue in it.  Didn't look back far enough in that thread.  Anyways its exciting news.

Soon enough we'll likely have a sticky topic just for everything concerning Order of Ecclesia. Until then it's a little messy as everyone likes to jump on new info they found.

Yeah I checked before I jumped but it was way back in that thread.  For anyone who doesn't have it they should buy the new Nintendo Power it even has a short little retrospective with IGA commenting on various games in the series from CV1 up to Portrait of Ruin.

whatever works though.  Yeah I have a NP subscription so that doesn't matter.  I wonder if Game Informer will have anything about it next month.  I thought it was pretty cool though I really like the artwork by the new artist.  Its really fresh and new and just about as good if not better than Ayami Kojima's.

I so excited.  I wonder when it is going to come out.  I really hope it's this year.  After all, there usually is at least one new game released each year.  All well, I can't wait.

*reads the last page and face palms* wait a minute, he realizes they're easy, and yet makes them easier because he's advised to? *kicks the guy that advises it in the nuts*

Wow, it actually looks pretty cool. The fights anyway.

I'm not picking it up since i don't have a DS, but this might be something Castlevania needs.

Oh my god... that opening animation...

...They're not gonna use that for the actual intro to the game, are they? That was so horrible.

Also just looks like a female version of Dawn of Sorrow.

Someone take Castlevania out of that damned title.

I didn't like the opening intro either, Clara ;_; I think the actual trailer was pretty badass tho. Lots of reused enemies, sure, but a couple of kewl new ones too, like the crab and the water demon. Also, Puwexil seems to be back! :D :D :D

Id just take the intros out if I could. More of a space waster to me. Even though I prefere this intro over those on DoS and PoR. Probably because Im not a fan of anime.

It's possible this "intro" was just thrown together from pics just for this video's reveal. You know, to show off the concept arts and stuff.

It looks like it's using Flash, and I don't know too many professional game companies that would use that sort of thing in the final product.

The game looks fun, but the music sounds like "female James Bond goes to castlevania." I like the lead female character.
