Title: OoE pLot twist? *Possible Spoilers*
Post by: Alexc2808 on May 30, 2008, 09:54:33 AM

Too early to tell.

there's an earlier shot where she stands by the 3 pedestals with books and absorbs them, while dracula's coffin glows with red aura behind her.

i'd guess it's the intro, where albus steals the whole dominus glyph thing for whatever reason, most likely a maxim reason "i don't wanna be worse than you, so i'll try to steal your fame" which leads the girl to lose her memory and all.

I doubt it, only because Dracula is alive and well before this game starts.  Remember the order was formed to combat him because in the absence of a Belmont, Dracula's minions are waring on mankind.

I think it will be more along the lines of the old guy being a villain working for Drac, Albus finding out and taking the dominus glyph to destroy Dracula.  I get the feeling that this Albus guy will turn out to be quite a hero, and I have a sneaking suspicion that he may even be the first Morris to wield the Vampire Killer.  Just a hunch based on his character design, his character design very intentionally western.

Uh, Albus is supposed to be a villain, at least at the beginning of the game.  It looks much more like the old man is fighting him off to protect Chanoix.

For a moment i thought the same, but it doesn't fit. I mean, why konami is unveiling something important from the main scenario when the game hasn't been released yet?

Albus appears to be a villain.  Considering this is the FIRST Castlevania where they came up with the story first, then built gameplay around it, I would hope that Iga is not gonna give us that stale of characters.  I think what I stated earlier would make for a much better story.

Maybe this "Dominus" is the vampire killer?  And Albus takes it cause he knows only he can use it? (This being if he is a Morris, just a hunch) And even if not, maybe he takes it so he can fight Dracula, knowing that the old man plans to sabotage Shanoa later.

Is it possible that Shanoa could be a vampire the church had custom made to fight Dracula, and that it's her coffin we see there?

Just throwing that out there. Haven't been following the info/speculation on OoE at all.

Very interesting hypothesis. Some people thinks she looks too pale to be human... Hmm.. And there isn't enough info to really speculate much, anyway; so don't worry about it.

I too think the old guy is PROTECTING Shanoa in that scene. And, yes, it's most likely the opening event to the game and where Shanoa loses her power/memory as a result of the fight. Then maybe the old guy gives Shanoa her first 3 glyphs.

Maybe the Dominus is actually not a good thing? Maybe Albus learns this when he steals it and is confrontational about it? Who knows

Thanks. Like I said, it was just an idea that came to me. A custom made vampire as a weapon against Drac could be cool, but we already have Alcuard... I dunno if it'd be the best thing, then.

So long as the twist isn't that Albus and Shanoa were friends/lovers and he stole the Dominus because although it will indeed vanquish Dracula, using its power will also kill her in the process.

What with the Shanoa's memory loss, I can totally see the plot going in that cliched typical-JRPG direction.

Don't say that!

With so little information the story could still be something totally unique, ground breaking, and made of awesomeness.

I don't want to believe IGA would do something so lame. :-X

Aria broke the mold and revolutionized the Castlevania story moreso than any other game since Dracula's Curse.  Lament may have done just as well, but IGA played it safe by tweaking Coppolla's origin story.

Order of Ecclesia is going to follow a more traditional "destroy Dracula and watch his Castle crumble" narrative.  The only real intrigue here is how the Belmonts and VK figure (or don't figure) into the new story.

The only fresh story Castlevania has left is the period of time between Leon and Trevor --and there are numerous possibilities...  Belmont adventures without Dracula.  Mathias' adventures to become Dracula...

For all these rumblings about making a Castlevania movie --I'd like to see a movie about Dracula establishing his unholy domain, romancing Lisa, the birth of Alucard, Lisa's death, and Dracula's retalliation.  If you think about it, all that material would be virtually impossible to fit into your traditional Castlevania game.

Sorry to ramble off topic...

Well, I have the feeling that Albus will turn out to be good in the end. He will help defeat Dracula possibly because the Order either a)is brainwashed, b)not going about it the right way, c)is actually a cult serving dracula.

Just please let him not be.. *shudder* Albus BELMONT. Though since the Belmonts have "disappeared".. Hmm.  ;D

Shanoa was just used by the Order to get the Dominus glyph from Albus who was trying to SAVE it. Then the glyph is taken by the Order, and Shanoa and Albus are left with no means to destroy Dracula. They team up, grab back the Dominus, and beat up Dracula in the end.

Oh, and Barlowe is actually Death.

This is just wild guessing on my part.  ;)

With the exception possibly of Death being Barlowe, that's pretty much how I except the story to go, esp. since Nintendo Power stated that Albus *seemed* like the bad guy but there might be 'more to him than meets the eye'.

Though I'm curious to see what's important that Shanoa forgot.

and the sad thing is, it probably will be like that. the games reuse the same plot idea of the role reversal too much, at least the weak 2d game plots.

it'd be kinda refreshing if the young guy who everyone thinks will eventually go to the good side and aid you would actually remain evil to the end and out of his own will, not because "dracula/other bad guy controlled him lol" like it was the case in cva2 (soleil), sotn (richter), cotm (hugh), hod (maxim), pork (sisters) and to an extent cod (isaac was partially corrupted by the curse as far as i remember).

How would that be refreshing?  Less like Cv games, but more like fricken disney movies.  Please no stale evil for evil's sake villains...  I think it is plainly obvious that he is not controlled by anyone, but he knows something Shanoa doesn't and is trying to work for the greater good.

no i don't mean evil just to be evil, i mean i don't want anymore evil because he's controlled, but once the control fades he becomes a goody two shoes like every hero turned villain in igavanias. i'm sick of those stale plot twists, mainly because iga uses them far too often.

also i never said anything about the motive, so where the hell did you get that disney referrence from? ::)

a "not exactly a real villain, more of 'not playing for either of the teams', so both the order and dracula would be enemies for him" would be ok too, provided he doesn't decide to soften up at the end.

something like he got tired of being pushed around by barlowe or whatever the old dude's name is and decided to quit the order, stealing their best weapon along the way to become famous for defeating dracula single handedly.

and no "i'm too weak, can i leave everything to you and be your friend?" crap like richter/hugh/maxim/sisters either. i'd rather him die a heroic death fighting for his own ideals till the end.

Yes, I would like it that way. It would be better like that, with Albus not actually being the good guy. My theory is wayyy too stereotypical for CV already, so let's hope it doesn't come to pass.

If my theory (which isn't completely mine) comes true, I can always claim the title of psychic.  :P Kidding.

My theory is that Albus is actually Henry from the "other" dimension here to reclaim the TRUE timeline to the story :P

And Dominus is a metaphor for the dictatorship IGA has over the series. When his back was turned, his surly employees slipped this secret plot in and it has the power to change reality.

Oh yeah, and after the curse wears off, Osama Bin Laden joins the Red Cross. And something about... planetary alignment and garlic.

King's vampire was "Barlow", no ending "e", though pronounced the same. His full name was "Kurt Barlow". It would be interesting if IGA did make his Barlowe as a nod to King's Barlow, seeing that CV tends to pull forth vampires lore in general, with real vampiric figures like Bathory(Bartley), Gilles de Rais and Vlad III(Dracula), as well as fictional vampires like Graf Orlok(Olrox) and Carmilla.

What?  Castlevania has always been about meshing fiction, lore, and pop culture together to create a unique atmosphere.  It's what made it stand out.
Dracula
Medusa
Death...
These are all characters who were never put together before, but when Castlevania did it everyone slapped there head and said "duh".

Richter will probably pop up in the game or Maria, despite what IGA says, like that damn old man could be Richter or something. Im sure IGA is a damn lier! A Belmont will be in the game, disquised or not, there will be one! ...sorry, but thats what I believe... This is my hypothesis, Richter could have gotten old, and he suddenly realized he was not able to use the "Vampire Killer" for some reason, and he could not tell anyone that the Belmont's were not able to use that weapon anymore, so he goes into hiding for a while and he changes his identity and he makes the "Order of Ecclesia" and he tries to find someone who can do the job since he is not able to because he is old, and he has no way to use the vampire killer anymore. Since because of this, he also has to find someone from his family that can use it, and he finds that the "Morris" family is able to use that power, so he hands the whip over to them. And he tells them to hold on to the whip until the right heir of the Belmont family will be able to use that whip once again. And since he has Shanoa on his side, he will be able to destroy Dracula once again with the help of the "Order of Ecclesia." ... sorry, thats my idea, yall can call me stupid or whatever, but IGA did that once with Eric Lecarde as an identity named "Wind" until you find out later who he is... which I knew who he was once he said he know who Jonathon's father was, but thats beside the point, Richter will probably be in there, just watch. Because I know IGA is lying. Or Shanoa could be Richter's daughter, but is unable to use the whip, so she was born with a different power, and has no idea what her identity is because she lost her identity over some bull crap. dunno, thats my ideas. just 2 different ideas.

But Shanoa is supposed to be someone we know or al least related to someone we know, right? Otherwise I don't see much point in giving her a codename. IF she is someone we know the only persons who could be here (and I can think of)are Carrie or Maria (If the game wouldn't take place in the mid 1800s)If she is actually Maria that would suck, hard.

I think that priest is the bad one and the guy is the good one, so, the priest tried to kill Shanoa but the gun guy stopped him.

Or it could be the complete opposite: Barlowe? (The priest) could have been trying to give Shanoa the power or Glyph she needed to defeat Dracula, Albus (the gunslinger) could have hurt Shanoa off frame (hence why she's on the floor) and Barlowe was simply trying to protect himself and her while Albus tried attacking him.

Or as you stated, Barlowe could have attacked her and Albus showed up in time to try and defend her. (The fact that what looks like Dracula's coffin being behind them does seem to support that.)

But from the way it is in the video, I think it's the former: that Albus attacked to get the glyph and Barlowe was defending himself.

Maybe the scene before, where she was suppose to be getting three of them, would have merged into one glyph, thus creating the weapon needed to defeat Dracula  and that's the scene right before the attack.

Also, back to the coffin: I got the impression that Dracula was already awake and causing serious problems with his minions before the Order even formed or at least, shortly after.  So what's he doing possibly asleep, ready to be resurrected? And why is his coffin seemingly, at the Order's base? (The background looks like a church/temple thing and I figured that's where the order would be stationed.)

And will we get to meet/talk to him in the game, pre final boss fight?  Cause I got this pic:

Ah okay.  Wonder who he is. (I suppose one of the villagers you can help through out the game?)

Looks like his name is Nikolai.

I think he is Dracula in disguise.. don't know where that came to my head.

That's what I figured: he was a villager, maybe trapped by some kind of power/dark force due to Dracula and Shanoa has to free him. (Hence the sign above his head and the dark power around him?)

So then you'll find villagers trapt within dark force fields and rescue them, even inside stages. That sounds cool!!

If that's true, it has to be some sort of homage to Rondo's Maidens.

You could just as well say it's like the randomly trapped shopkeepers in MSX' Vampire Killer

Yeah, but it's more likely Rondo. After all it is a "sequel" to it's sequel.

I think this might be the case.  I finally ::dances:: got my issue of Nintendo Power and in the same stage, there was another guy too. So I guess you'll meet quite a few people. At least, in that stage.

I think that priest is the bad one and the guy is the good one, so, the priest tried to kill Shanoa but the gun guy stopped him.

If you're talking about the part from the video, then probably not.  They were doing some kind of ceremony and Albus attacks, taking the spell needed and causing Shanoa to lose her memory. Being Barlowe's apprentice, apparently Albus stole it out of jealousy.

Or at least, that's what Nintendo Power hints at.

Nintendo Power clearly states that it is not what it appears.  It never says anything about jealousy, I have the magazine next to me right now.

From page 41 of the July issue of Nintendo Power.

Another member of Ecclesia is Albus--a brooding shotgun-weilding young man (and Barlowe's pupil) who apparently betrays the society at the beginning of the game.

Ecclesia's ultimate weapon against Dracula is the supreme Glyph, Dominus, but during a ceremony at the beginning of the game Albus jealously steals it for himself, costing Shanoa her accumulated power and her memory in the process.

The nature of Shanoa and Albus's relationship has yet to be revealed, and the same goes for Albus's true motives; in the world of Castlevania not everything is always as it seems.

Sounds to me like you're lead to believe one thing but it might change during the course of the game. It just sounds like it's strongly hinted at but may or may not actually happen at all.

...Unless they've played the entire game or far enough to know otherwise. Personally, I'm with, who was it, Serio?  I'd like it better if his motives were bad/evil from start to finish.

Or at the very least, it's not Barlowe was actually evil the entire time and Albus was good, blah de blah de blah...

I just want the game to be good and the story to fill the plot hole with the Morrises. Otherwise I couldn't care less about what's going on in this particular scene.

I'm practically positive that somehow, someway, the Morris family will get brought up.  They'd better, along with why the Belmont family can't touch the whip and went MIA.

Not worried about the game being good, sense so far, I've liked everything I've seen or read so far. Gameplay wise anyway.

*blinks myopically*

"Glyphs" are the new Spell/Ability/DS/SF/SFII/ID System this time around (see: Gimmick of the week), characters are the usual JRP-stock brooding n' backstabbing types with the full potential to further convolute an already waning storyline, and graphics have almost taken a step back towards the GBA Aria days.

. . . . The plot had better not suck. Otherwise, we're looking at a bigger letdown than CoD-Awful and PoRk combined.

And dat's my Cold Harsh Shit for the new release!  ;D

Well, he's entitled to his opinion. ^^

Myself, I hardly agree with it...I think OoE is looking good, both graphics and plot-wise. I don't really see how any of the effects are GBA quality--they look quite good to me. As for the plot, it's quite derivative, but really, Castlevania plots have hardly been known for their originality. At the very least Shanoa is not as annoying as Johnathan, and the characters do seem to have more personality than they did in DoS.

One: Shanoa's much hotter than Jon-boy, or even Charlotte. Her design is more pleasing to the eyes in general.

Two: aside from the setup we know, we don't know jack about their personalities.

By more personality, of course he means "doesn't look like a Saturday morning anime character." I agree. - Shan totally has the late-night Toonami look going for her. ^_^

I'm speculating a Morris will make an appearance somewhere.
depending on the time period this is set, maybe Shanoa will end up being Quincy Morris' mother? (Maybe Albus is Secretly a Morris, and thus the Father)
